Purpose

Ever fallen in love for a show or comic, only to discover it got canceled because not enough people supported it? We don't want that to happen here.

The brutal truth is: creating these comics is a labor of love, but love alone doesn't pay the bills. Without financial support, even things you cherish can fade away. By joining our Patreon, you're not just getting perks – you're keeping this comic alive. If you love what we do, help ensure it doesn't disappear.

Your support means everything.

There is no purpose. "Well there just has to be a greater purpose to my life, I just know it." No, there doesn't have to be. Just because you have an ego that doesn't want to face the truth of the fact that there is no purpose and you are just a cosmic happenstance doesn't suddenly make greater purpose exist. Your purpose is whatever you want it to be.

A great demonstration of how having a purpose assigned by a higher power could be awful.

There was a robot on some show, that was going on a suicide mission, and someone asked it if it was ok with dying, and it said something along the lines of "This is my reason for existing. You will spend your whole life wondering if you fulfilled your potential, but I will know, in the instant I detonate, that I achieved everything I was put here to do. Don't pity me. I pity you."

But if you aim towards reality, it can help you feel fulfilled. And it's easier to get up every morning.

Timely podcast:
Atheist vs Christian vs Spiritual Thinker: Is Not Believing In God Causing More Harm Than Good?!

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unless the spiritual thinker is a theist, she's an atheist too. There is no reason atheists can't be spiritual or even religious. E.g., confucianists and many buddhists are atheists. Also indigenous people who venerate ancestral spirits or totem animals because neither of those are deities. And all the people who say "I don't believe in a traditional god concept but I'm sure there is some higher power". If that higher power is not a deity like Yahweh or Zeus or Quetzalcoatl, they're atheists.

And it's amazing what happens when you split the typical poll question "do you believe in a god or higher power Y/N" into 3 different options. The EU's Eurobarometer poll did just that and gave the options god / some sort of spirit or life force / neither. Turns out in the most developed countries, extremely few people believe in an actual god as outlined in those dusty old books. Vastly fewer people than those who identify as christians. Which means countless christians are atheists.

"Because Adam & Eve"

I love your work...but

Your purpose is what you decide it is. If you even seek purpose. Without you naming your calling, it doesn't exist. It's just something you already did or have wanted to do that you place significance on. All to attach yourself to something you deem worthy of being your purpose so you feel like what you're doing has meaning you approve of.

A long series of chemical reactions led to RNA coming into being and life continued on from there. There is no meaning or purpose other than what you give yourself. Make the most of your life…

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Life has no purpose beyond the purpose you choose to put into your life. There is no sky fairy nor some kind of quantum mechanics rule that does that for you.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Damn. Do you guys remember a comic with a guy asking god what his purpose in life was, and god answering he should stick his finger into that random guy's butthole, and the guy asking if there was someone else he can speak to?

I shouldn't be telling you this but you've got to complete your inventory drawer... known items: a single battery of a type which is usually used in a set, three lengths of string of random length, thickness and composition, a novelty souvenir nail clipper which is atrocious for actually clipping nails but it was a present and what if you can't find your good one, a stub of candle, matchbook with one left, a "keep this coupon" ticket for some lottootto that may be past or future, a nubby pencil

I've always liked "God created man, man created machine, and machine created music" it's from a apoptygma berzerk song.

Your purpose is to have a good time. Stop doom scrolling and go bake a cake or something.

11 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

If our purpose was to have a good time, helping others would be accidental, and no one would have children.

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This whole question about "purpose" makes me want to watch bojack horseman again. Especially Diane's arc where she feels she has to have some greater purpose to justify her struggles and to be a "good person" but that pursuit made her miserable. Only until she realized its ok to just be "boring and normal" that she became happy.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hard to have a good time when we live under constant systemic oppression restricting what we are able to do.

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the purpose was to have a good time, then why are so many of us disabled in a way that basically prevents physically activities? Why aren’t we all rich? Why aren’t there water parks everywhere? Your logic is flawed.

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Because some people are happy when others are poor. I don't like water parks. You don't need to be physically active to enjoy yourself. Reading a book is a good way

The purpose of an oven is to cook food but no food will get cooked until other things happen first and it certainly doesn't stop the oven being used for non-cooking things. Do not conflate purpose with destiny, right, or how the world works.
