3D Printed Planetary gear

I 3d printed this in one piece on a machine called the Fortus 380mc.

Here are two more that I printed with the white support material still inside.

It's pretty cool.

I added more gears, each gear is 4 to 1, so for ever time the top gear spins, the bottom green one spins 256 times!

3D printed planetary gear, only green ;P

Edit: Thanks for all the love! I spent a ton of time building this and I'm happy everyone likes it. If you'd like to buy the STL file, you can at www.3dmac.io. Keep making, Imgur!

Concept idea that could be employed in generators?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The resistance produced by the magnetic field would increase so the motive force would have to increase to compensate

Those are some Bela Lugosi level skinny goblin fingers....

.... okay but whats with the flag

IN ONE PIECE? With a surface finish like this? What kind of black magic is this? Have technology gone too far?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my wildest dreams maybe

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we get some download files?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's with the flag?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I feel he missed his freedom opportunity by not printing them. In red white and blue.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I 3d printed the flag as well!

I used to! now I work on my own businesses! Teaching CAD and making at MIT, and driving around in a maker bus!

Can you put more gears and get the last one to get supersonic?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, the next layer would spin 1024 times!

I'm no physicist but holy shit this is magic!!! It must be an invisible Jesus spinning that bottom one!

And a large mechanical advantage

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Mind me asking what machine / 3d printer you use?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you have to ask, you can't afford it. https://www.aniwaa.com/product/3d-printers/stratasys-fortus-380mc/

What? Lol

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's in the OP.

This machine is also capable of printing the part: https://www.aniwaa.com/product/3d-printers/stratasys-f270/

Stl?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

By far, one of the coolest things about 3D printing is their ability to print "impossible" things!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sooo... What is it for?

7 years ago | Likes 219 Dislikes 6

Spinning.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This one? Internet videos? Otherwise? Mechanical advantage, useful for different gears on a bike/car, they use a similar mechanism.

It's how automatic transmissions work.

So.... what’s it for?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It's a hunter weapon.

Apparently the USA

For Imgur

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same use as a fidget spinner, but way cooler.

7 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

Clean up on that support must be a royal pain in the ass

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It all dissolves! really easy!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d love some dissolving filament, but I’d need a dual extruder to use it as support.

Couple questions, how much infil, Any extra splicer settings, what splicer? it looks great and is it possible to scale it down?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably 100% infill and he used the Insight or GrabCad software that Stratasys has for their machines. Should be scalable as long as...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...the components remain large enough to move discreetly.
