I’m going to bet that the shaft and screw are keyed so that there is only one way to place the screw on the shaft. Put it on backwards and it won’t seat properly.

Is there a reason for this? Avoiding cavitation? Cause I am familiar with some fan profile stuff from "Fan Showdown" on youtube and the leading edge is usually kept relatively flat for maximum air scoopage (technical term obvs) and the trailing designed to minimize turbulence in one way or another.
Short answer: Water is 800 times thicker than air so the propeller needs to be thicc too. Shorter blades to lower the speed at the tip for cavitation, much more extreme variable pitch, geometry to prevent vibration. The leading edges are actually flat, if you were to spin one fast enough to look like a solid object it would be shaped like a hockey puck, Flat for 80% of the diameter, then it curves/is swept back. The center is the longest, then it curves to another flat part. 1/?
Not to mention the angle of attack of the blades often closer to a Z shape than the standard squished D shape of a wing or propeller. It's more of a single part of a screw than a traditional propeller, but without the hub it would stand flat on the leading edge. 2/2

I am not an expert on it by any means, but cavitation as well as noise seems to generally be the the main reasons from what I've seen and heard.
