I wonder if there have been letters sent about any of the story times that have been "heterosexual led" to remind them not to provide sexual materials and distribute porn to them at their story times

Literally story time, with the added bonus of knowing that the people in the room with you are actually supporting you

It's....it's fairly easy to NOT go....and NOT take YOUR kid.... It's not even like you can be tricked into attending something you didn't want to be at

(Yes. I understand that's not the point or the issue)

Have some niceness after that

I need cuddles.

My tax dollars hard at work sending hate mail to the public library

Time for bed

Yo Missouri, your kids are hell of a lot safer at a rainbow or drag story time than at your churches and schools.

Feeling included and part of your neighborhood community seems so basic yet I'm fully aware that's not the case.

Why are conservatives sexualizing an event with children? Three guesses.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They're sexualizing it because Rapepublicans sexualize kids. That's what the Pedophile Party does.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

EVERYTHING is sexualized to them

1 month ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

To be fair the repubican party is the party of pedophiles.

What the fuck do Christians do at their own story times that would make them think others would get up to this kind of nonsense? You trading SD cards with illicit materials at your church BBQ?

1 month ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Given the amount of "youth pastor" pedo arrests, you're probably close on that...

1 month ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

That was indeed the insinuation.

I instantly knew this had nothing to do with sex or pornography because so many conservatives think that queer means pervert while so many of the fellow conservatives are actually abusing kids or are rapists.
They can’t imagine a queer person simply living and reading stories to entertain kids because they know they couldn’t.

It’s not even that. You can rally people behind not exposing children to sexualized images. You can’t really rally people behind hating gays except those who already hate. So they are always, intentionally, conflating any mention of being not-straight with it being a sexual topic so they can attack it anywhere, at any time and try and dupe people into supporting their side.

Send her a letter back. Make it clear you are aware of your rights, and wont be violated by veiled threats. Any further attempts to sway their function without proof of any wrongdoing will be reported as stalking and a hate crime. Fuck her with legal issues since she's so concerned about legality.

Why are right-wing people always thinking about gay sex?

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Because they're deeply invested in the patriarchal system and policing aberrant sexual behavior is a key function of patriarchy. The right is even more fixated on misogyny and rape, but the left-wing focuses on the gay sex because it's easier.

Anyone who's spent a significant amount of time in Missouri knows why people call it Misery.

If your first thought when someone wants to read a story to a child is that they are trying to provide sexual material to them, the problem is probably you. Fucking republicans...

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Respond to their letter with "Noted but not applicable. Thank you."

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whenever a Republican thinks of children, they automatically think of sex.

I will add more, but we pulled it together last minute to support our Library & staff! We had a good crew of chalkers and so many families came for the story time and even more community members came to show their support of the Library & families (also, if anyone knows how I edit my 2 minute video of all the chalk (android) to upload it, I would greatly appreciate it!)

Conservatives view eveything as sexual because theyre all repressed perverts.

every accusation...

Personally invite her to come on down and witness it. To make sure there's nothing untoward going on.

But yeah, we all know the pornography is the excuse. The real thing they object to is queer people exposing their "lifestyle" to children.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1) That's not a bad idea. Then when she doesn't come it's like "huh...I guess she doesn't care about you & your kids enough to ensure they're NOT being given porn

And ya. All this does is show their goal of painting LGBTQ+ as definitely child molesters with the only goal of handing them pornography at the library to indoctrinate them right there.

Also.....if we're going this route....what is it considered when we hand kids their bibles as gifts? How about the barely clothed

2). Man all over a church's walls....clearly being tortured...desensitizing those children to those behaviors

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a trans lesbian... the only people making this weird are the Republicans/Conservatives.

If you're looking for a great children's book with queer characters, check out "Mr. Watson's Chickens". Illustrations rich in detail, and fun and hilarious.

I've read it with my daughter a hundred times and she has never commented on the fact that it's a gay household. She just sees a story of two men who love and care for each other and who have to deal with having too many chickens.

On the one hand, i understand people saying that a group defined by their sexual preference/identity is inherently sexual and that must be the topic of their conversations. Those people are troglodytes and are likely the missing link in human evolution. They should be studied.

The point of the queer perspective is to discuss being different and being accepted. It’s not about sex, it’s about human experience and acceptance and love.

Don't distribute porn, gotcha. Wasn't ever planning on it.

Hmmm, maybe we should start sending letters warning not to distribute porn during nativity scenes or school plays or during church services.

Y'know, as a reminder.

"You can't just make laws against certain groups of regular people. So we publicly associated "X" group with "Y" illegal substance/crime so that we could disrupt they're activities and incarcerate them."

'Did that right wing Bi**h just call God's Rainbow "Queer" and "Porn"!?'...

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People who suddenly think that way usually have a reason for their minds to immediately jump to such conclusions. Usually because it's what they would do in that situation...

1 month ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 2

Indeed, i am baffeled how one even gets to such a conclusion ag all. Like what kind of story times do they do. Or did they had in their childhood?

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People almost always project. It's how I can tell I won't like Republicans.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Check their pornhub history...

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

it's not sexualizing children, but the reason they say it is is that they can't see queer people outside of a sexual light... conservatives can't fathom being nice to someone without the ulterior motive of wanting to fuck them

1 month ago | Likes 154 Dislikes 2

*rape them

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

rape involves fucking, but it's not always rape... they're not like "oh no you consented and maintained your consent throughout the act, that's a turn off"
Consent or the lack of it are the same thing to them.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"We need to stop these gays from making us horny all the time!"

1 month ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Hold on hold on it might very well be sexualizing the kids. Did they if the person running it was a Republican?

1 month ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Check

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Well they'd be having the ulterior motive of wanting to fuck them, wouldn't they?

UPDATE!!! https://abc17news.com/news/columbia/2026/07/24/mo-secretary-of-state-threatens-dbrl-funding-over-lgbtq-themed-story-time-event/

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

“Yet this event mocks some of the very protections so many have fought for by exposing toddlers and preschoolers to adult material that is not only inappropriate, but far beyond their level of cognitive development,” Hoskins’ statement says.

Hoskins wrote that if the event does occur, DBRL’s funding will be affected.

“As you know, the State Library falls under the Office of the Secretary of State, and as such, I oversee the administration of significant library grant funding,” the statement

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

says. “Please be advised if this inappropriate endeavor for children takes place, I will do everything in my power to block every dollar of state and federal funding I can from future events at the Daniel Boone Library System.”

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't get the focus on queer-led and lbtq theme. Is that for the parents to meet same sex couples and socialize? Kids just want a good story, they'll find out about the rest in due time.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Children begin to develop an understanding of their own gender in toddlerhood, and some kids realize they want to pair-bond with same-sex partners before puberty. The due time to learn about queer people is early childhood so those kids are informed and supported in who and what they are. It's not some nebulous future point when you're ready to give up on pressuring someone out of it because they're 'old enough to know.'

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

1) I am not quoting anyone from the library, but to me all this says is "hey...we know it's scary out there and we know it's already hard to socialize with other parents, etc. here is an event for you that will include other parents, where you know that you are safe with the other in the room (which by the way ..not that it should matter one bit...except for noise level of kids ....it's in a room. With doors shut....that nobody is forcing into or making you listen) AND "make new friends" is

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2) is just saying that after the stories, people are welcome to mingle and chat before they need to leave the room for the next event. Same as any other storytime

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Right. Just call it “story time”

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I may? NOT defending them, just explaining their POV. In their view, mentioning your sexual orientation is automatically sexualizing things (like Quagmire from Family Guy constantly reminding everyone how he likes to do things with women).

And saying "meet new friends" sounds really weird to people who already think the Ps are with the LGBTs and Qs. You didn't mean it that way, but to those already thinking that NAMBLA represents gay people, it reaffirms their prejudices.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

And those people need to stop sexualizing LGBT+ people.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is sexualizing only if you reduce all relationships to sex. Hetero relationships aren't only about sex either - kids see parents kiss, hold hands, watch TV, take care of each other when sick, surprise each other with gifts, etc. None of that is sexual, and queer people do all of that too.

It you tell a 7-year-old that "Mike likes boys", or "Michelle's wife is named Sarah", they understand that at an age-appropriate level

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I agree. Again, I'm NOT defending them. I'm simply explaining their POV. Understanding different mindsets and thought processes helps in dealing with others.

You have to remember that, everyone (even serial killers, mass murderers, religious zealots, and Hollywood producers) is the protagonist of an autobiographical story in their own heads. We're always the hero of our own tale.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In order to stay "the hero of [their] own tale," they have to find justification for their cruelty to us. That is why they sexualize our existence.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think anyone here is confused about it, so it definitely reads as a justification

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are in fact being EXTREMELY confused. YOU already understand that the folks in Boone are not in fact grooming any kids. I am explaining the mindset of the people who do not understand that. It's not "justification so we can do evil things because cruelty is the point." It's "here is the alien mindset and thought processes of the people who oppose you. Understand their thought processes and you will be better equipped to deal with them."

This is a basic survival skill - empathy.

I don't suffer empathy for those who would erase my kind, thanks
