Since when is assaulting and harassing someone a "prank"? There are too many of the younger kids that think this stupid shit is funny. I feel bad for the guy that pulled the gun- I'm sure he feared for himself in that moment- now he's in trouble because of some fucking moron with a youtube channel.

So I saw this on Reddit last week. The 'prankster' alleged they were going to stop. But they thought they were "close to getting a reaction", so continued. Do I think anyone should get shot? No. Do I think this guy had it coming? Honestly, yes. You keep harassing people in a country where people have access to guns? Your idiotic pranks will wind you shot when you make someone scared.

I don't know about shooting the kid, but I would pepper spray that kid for sure. Would get the result with a few less charges. That's the thing about people that carry. You are basically planning to shoot someone, and there's not really many scenarios where that's actually okay to do. Explosion propeled pepper gel would handle most situations, and no one has to die.

The shooter shouldn't have shot so quickly, just revealing he had a gun should have been enough to end things. But the prankster is also at fault for it, should have known better than to prank someone in the US where they let people shoot someone just cause they go to the wrong house (or where police shoot someone cause THEY went to the wrong house)

Very much so. Drove long-haul truck for 30 years. Because we cross so many state lines, it's virtually impossible for us to be legally armed. Many drivers do it anyway, and the uncertainty over who is and is not armed helped keep all of us safer. I didn't, but I would have had it been legal.

Watched the video several times, and I'm conflicted on this one. one the one hand, I think merely drawing the weapon without firing would have been sufficient, but he was close, and refusing to back off. Under those circumstances, there was a real risk of losing control of the weapon. Would I have shot (I don't carry)? No, I don't think it was the proper response, but this "prankster" is a AH. Jury acquitted on most serious charges, I think I would have as well, but tough call.

In the US, drawing a gun but not shooting it is almost always the crime of "brandishing". If you take a license to carry class - or whatever it's called in your state - you'll learn early on that you do not pull your gun unless you intend to use it. If you pull it and the person immediately retreats, then you don't shoot, and you have a legal excuse to prevent a brandishing charge, because you elected not to shoot once the threat ended, instead of just showing off the gun.

Pulling a gun as a deterrent is foolish. One risks having the gun taken away and used on you. If you pull a gun use it.

Yes, as I mentioned above, but circumstances dictate action. There are cases where displaying the weapon will be sufficient to resolve the situation. It's always a judgment call, however if you draw a weapon, you must be prepared to use it. You can never depend on the other person having a rational response.
