Maybe not, but there is still a difference between the ones that are willing to put up pride displays and the ones who are not. If we ARE to "vote with our wallet", we want them to learn that supporting tolerance is more profitable than supporting bigotry.
That being said, we also have to peer behind the curtain: if they're not backing up their displays with deeds, then they're straight up lying and should be avoided. But if they are supporting LGBT+ tolerance, then go for it. We want that.

Heh, I remember working for a company that was very actively promoting all the LGTBIQ stuff for pride month, talked nonstop about inclusion being an ingrained part of their culture, women's rights, etc. (to a point of getting somewhat annoying because they were clearly doing it only for self-promotion). Came trump, and whoosh, all that "tightly ingrained culture" suddenly vanished like thin smoke. Glad to hear some brands at least do really support it.

It wasn’t a fit thing for me. I’ve been buying the same pair of shoes over and over for at least 15 years (the black and white low tops). They used to last 2 years, now they barely make it 6 months. I quit buying them bc they aren’t good anymore. But guess what. I’ll buy them every 6 months for this shit. That is fantastic news and they deserve support, hopefully they quit messing up their product though.

If they're still willing to do it in the US in the current environment, then I'd argue it's at least not *entirely* performative anymore. Likely still being done based on financial metrics and they think they'll make more money by supporting it, but it's not like there's zero risk for doing so anymore, so it's something.
Doesn't take away from *other* problems they may have, like sweatshop labour and so on, but stopped clock and all that.

I had vans awhile back. I put arches in them to help support my feet. That shit still hurt everytime I walked, so I only wore them a handful of times. If they made practical shoes, I would buy them.

I've found the newer styles, especially the platforms, much comfier and have a bit of a wider width. The Run Star Hikes are my fave. Much wider and cushier than standard Chucks.

Nobody bothers posting this about their straight'n'cis-targeted advertising the rest of the year, but as soon as they're a bit more inclusive it seems to piss people off and they feel the urge to tell us that no one really cares. I agree with you, but the reason that people don't do that for the straight'n'cis-targeted advertising is that those are usually not saying "we are allies who support your straight'n'cis identity, so you should buy from us!" but just "here is some stuff designed to appeal to your straight'n'cis identity that we hope will make you buy our stuff." There's usually no social dimension to such advertising.

I bought shares in Costco back when my wife and I finally got out of student loan debt. I was looking for something I wouldn't feel bad about supporting, and this article came out about how high the average wages there were and how they have benefits and basically sell actual products at cost with corporate profits equalling the membership dues. Glad to still be holding those shares.

If you haven’t already, you may want to models from their 70s lines, little more expensive, lot more comfortable- albeit without strong arch support.
If you go Custom, you can get inserts that are also a nice improvement, but because they are “custom” not a thing you can try before buy. The pride lines are all “Custom”.
If you’re in to secondary used/dead stock market, for good arch support look for the models with the lunarlon insert (chuck taylor II)

Go to a podiatrist, get your feet measured and molded, and have custom inserts made. Nothing you can buy off the shelf will compare.

Yes, 100%, but after that, unless you steam roll your foot, there is never enough room for the orthotic AND your foot.
Even with running shoes I need to rip out half the insides to get both in, and cons don't have enough stuff inside to rip out

Try a different lacing pattern which relieves pressure over the arch, when wearing inserts. You can find many styles online.

Inserts into shoes are game changing. Skip the generic dr schoals and look into getting more premium inserts that can cost $50-100. They'll form to your feet via heat (like using your toaster oven) or some premium shoe stores can do it for you in-store. Also FSA eligible. Expensive but theyll last multiple shoes.
