I used to feel this way, but without the original series to give me context. I don’t think a lot of the jokes would’ve landed the same way. I look at it like new game +, it builds off it.

Movies like this really make me appreciate how amazing "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is.
Even with all the advanced hardware and AI an 4 times the budget.
It still cant hold a candle to pure talent and raw dedication.

Plus the actors had to be careful. When grabbing Roger Rabbit by the neck, Bob Hoskins had to keep his fingers together. If his fingers were separate, then the animators had to draw Roger's neck between each finger, which would have been more expensive.

Groundbreaking movie. Practical effects and amazing animators. We have so many tools for tracking light in a scene to do CGI now, and they drew all that shading without any of it.

Fun fact, they built the set for the club scene something like 5-8 feet off the ground so puppeteers underneath could make the real serving trays the toon penguins carry bob up and down.
