When I started riding my motorcycle everyday 5 years ago, I would see another motorcycle rider and nod and give the two fingers down. But I was never as proud as when I would see a dyke running the other way and give the nod and two fingers down, and feel like I was part of something real, and substantial. Thank you so much for these feelings.

They’re riding pretty slowly in those parades. They do speed up for a hot second (the revving up is their “show”), but I’ve only seen them do this in a straight line. It’s pretty tame, but you aren’t wrong.

When I was a kid (I think about 6-ish?) My dad made a leather Xena costume for one of his workmates who rode with the Dykes on Bikes! She was super cool, brought her ps1 over for me and my sis to have a go of whilst she got fitted for the costume.

I've noticed, at least around me, that lesbians tend to be more "combative" if that's the correct term. We do tend to act more on the things we perceive as unjust, whereas gay men do raise their voices, but do less action. Can't generalise though, some people might perceive it different

For decades they were ignored as part of the gay community... in some ways, good, they didn't get the kind of abuse that gay men did, but they also didn't get recognized.
One of my favorite stories was Sally Ride who was outed by NASA in her obituary...

I'm a bisexual woman and my only gay guy friends are definitely not interested in being politically active, and they're like "well, this doesn't affect me personally so I don't care" and I've been pretty damn active politically, I've even organised a couple of demonstrations in the past, was a board member of a political association, ran for office in general elections a few times, and now I'm working on getting my life back on track and the plan is to become more politically active again later.

When time passed, gay marriage happened, and the gay community in particular started feeling like they got all they wanted, they started talking about dropping the T, stopped taking part in the community very much, and utterly forgot who was there when it was all falling apart.

It happens. A friend rode across country with an old school lesbian, sweet woman I'm told, but they had a 'issues' with the 'boys want to be girls' or something to that extent and that 'work to wear pants' and such. Thankfully they were willing to listen that they laid the ground work so people could be themselves. I am deeply paraphrasing that story, but people can forget how it use to be when they don't have to think about the struggles that got them to a point of comfort.

In fact, many people no matter what, are often abandoned by their family before they pass for whatever reason, And this lesbian and many others sit with them, sing to them, and comfort them and their final moments.

I believe WTF interviewed Harvey Firestein, and he said in the 70s and 80s blood banks weren't giving blood to people sick with hiv/aids. Lesbians started their own blood drives, so aids patients had clean blood when they needed it.

This is true, and it's a story he also tells on the DVD commentary of Torch Song Trilogy. It takes place pre-AIDS, and one shot shows two gay men sneaking into a lesbian bar as a joke only to be kicked out by angry lesbians because at the time our two tribes were antagonistic at times.

Which made sense in the 1970s... Lesbian spaces were women only... (whereas gay bars didn't give a shit and the last time I was in a gay bar there were more straight women there than gay men (apparently women got hep to the idea that they could go to a gay bar when they just wanted to go out and not get hit on)... the bar owners don't care, they just want to sell booze and drunk chicks drink like the fishes.
