Most of the "nice" stuff people attribute to Jesus, like getting rid of Old Testament law, actually came from Paul decades after Jesus had died.
Paul was trying to recruit followers and the actual message of Jesus wasn't landing with people, so he outright lied about what Jesus said to convince them.
Jesus wasn't the role model people pretend he is. You can only get that idea taking a handful of cherry-picked verses out of context and ignoring almost everything else in the bible.
Leo XIV is "liberal" by the *internal standards of the Catholic Church*, which is the most conservative institution in the world. Anyone who accuses Leo of being too "woke" or even "progressive" is a full-blown nazi.
Not really the most, by a long margin. Any protestant congregation is way more conservative, by definition. Most specifically about being fiscally conservative.
I would find it incredibly difficult to mention a less conservative religious organization, actually (The Sihk, probably)
When the fucking Pope is more progressive than you are, you dun fucked up. Never was a Catholic but watching fools excommunicate themselves by publicly claiming he is not their Pope is pretty epic.
Jesus was notorious for hating the poor, telling them to go back to their country, for raping women and children alike, for supporting the wealthiest, and for accepting all kinds of bribery.
I wish the second coming was real and happening now. I really need to see super powered Jesus to bring some wrath of God on the billionaires, GOP, Israel and ICE
Jesus first act would be to stop the violence and punish those creating it. but the second act would be bring justice on pedophiles and the christian clergy / catholic "employees" (priests, brothers, nuns) who have pedophiled children for known 400 years (obviously 2000 years). the vatican stores records but no pope releases them the "Epstein Files x10K". vatican is recognized a country so law enforcement cannot "search warrant" subpoena vatican. i do most of Leo's actions.
This literally just goes to show how conservative American Catholics are. Look at the schism between the former pope (Francis) and the Catholic League.
Had a neighbor of mine say that Kamala Harris was "too liberal", but he's a brown dude who is in the US on an H1-B and his wife barely speaks English. Their twins are in the same grade as my kid and THEY speak English fine, but their younger kid who isn't yet in pre-school has NOT been taught English in the home at all. Not sure what outcome they expect from this, but I've given up trying to explain how conservatives in the US have historically been white supremacists.
It’s curious who among those are so desperate to fit in that they say anything or the people who are too afraid of being turned against so they’ll say anything.
I live in a majority hispanic area, and most latinos (majority Mexican-American) I talk to are die-hard Trump supporters. I'm not fucking kidding. They like it when he deports "illegals".
This neighbor isn't even hispanic, he's like from Bangladesh or something, I forget exactly (not India). Seemed like a nice enough guy and his kids in the same grade are friends with my kid, but to hear him speak like conservatives would have his back is ridiculous.
My parents, aunt and uncle, and most of their friends are from Sri Lanka, and it's the same with them too. Most of them have voted Republican since they first became citizens, and even all the blatantly racist and anti-immigrant BS the GQP's been doing hasn't made them change. I don't talk politics with them to keep the peace, though sometimes it's hard not to point out that their own party would love to deport them or worse if they could.
You mean those 'illegals' that look and talk exactly like them, and were deemed 'illegal' and deported (probably to a foreign hell-prison) purely on their looks and the judgement of racist highschool dropouts? Those illegals? . . . (We both know the answer is yes, but I couldn't help phrasing it like that.)
What the fuck does “too liberal” even mean? We want people to be “too” protected from discrimination and exploitation? We want our environment to be “too” healthy? We want the ultra-wealthy to pay “too” much of their fair share?
I didn't think cottage cheese could be ice cream, yet here I am. Mind expanded. What else can become ice cream? Gruyere? Sour cream with bacon bits? We haven't even tried to push for progress. *I acknowledge that this doesn't help in the slightest*
A liberal will push for slow and steady social progress. A progressive will push for drastic reform.
At least that's the current distinction, in U.S. politics. And, of course, the Overton Window has been moving to the right faster than the "slow and steady" progress can keep pace with, so we're caught in the cycle of "one step forward, two steps back" (although we're up to, like, five steps back at this point). We NEED progressivism right now. Have needed it for a good while. (ctd.>
Bernie, of course, had been pushing for it his entire life. Even before it was 'necessary', it would still have been very beneficial to have had it earlier. But he was, even then, seen as too far to the left, and he had barely any supporters within the Democratic Party.
As time went on, and things kept going downhill, he's been looking less and less crazy, and more politicians have joined the fight for progressiveness. But the majority of the Party still sees their views as "too drastic", alas.

Don't hate him because he's liberal. Do hate him because he's the leader of a renowned pedo gang who is worshipped as a god by his followers.
rezpawner
Wait, I thought trump was conservative? Leader of a renowned pedo gang who is worshipped as a god by his followers?
crateo
Honestly, you gotta recognize the work done to address the issue. The latest cases are being reported by the catholic church itself, like in France.
And he is not worshipped as a god at all. No one is praying to him.

Catholics don't worship the pope though

crateo
Technically, not catholic anymore. You can't go against the pope and remain in communion with the church. That's what the magic words say.
OohDaLolly
True, but they only believe the magic words when it is convenient for them.
