That is the "I must, I must, I must improve my Bust" exercise of the 1970s.

100?!

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

100 times, you say?

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

TBH, I'm not going to need nearly that many reps before I'm good.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This doesn't train the back, it works the core and maybe pecs and front delts a bit.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've been doing similar movements with doorframes while standing up. Same concept... and as long as I do it, I don't wake up with shoulders in pain AND my arms having fallen asleep from everything being so tight.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Looks like one of those exercises that seems easy but after 10 reps everything is on fire.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

At first I thought she was fully stretched out like in a plank position and thought, "Yeah, Fuck no."

3 weeks ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

lol same

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you can do a similar exercise with legs straight and palms on the floor, like in the "up" position of the pushup, but focus on the trap activation by dipping your chest and raising using your scapular muscles. Vary the difficulty by adjusting width. That would remove the need for the double yoga blocks.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wasn't this to remove traps from the equation? I got excited because my traps inflate the second i think about back exercises. (Which isn't as sexy as you'd think on a girl).

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same! I've dislocated my shoulder twice and just imagined my arm popping off like a toy

3 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I've only dislocated my should once, but it was bad enough to leave stretch marks on the joint of my shoulder. And I still can't do overhead military press with anything heavier than a soup can. Other angles are fine, but straight up feels like my arm's gonna fall off.

Ouch! It took me almost a year and many resistance bands to get up to doing them again recently. Pec flys or however you say it are also a huge no no for me too. Good luck on the recovery

You could also add someone's hand between your shoulder blades for added resistance. They might also need to hold onto your hip for stability though.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. It's also very important to improve stabilisation by compensating for lateral movement. If you're assisting a person doing this exercise then you can accomplish that by repeatedly applying a destabilising impact. Note that this greatly increases the cardiovascular demands of the exercise and may cause hidrosis and hyperventilation. Continue until rhythmic vocalisation and localised muscle spasms occur, then discontinue exercise and provide supportive care.

Backs are sexy

Just a thought…..there’s another activity you can do at the same time to help you concentrate

3 weeks ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 8

hey, as long as you're down there...

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

But then you may not do it 100 times as recommended in the video

3 weeks ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

My record is 15

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Is it eating pie?

3 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

yes

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

OK, TWO other activities.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Until those two boxes move and your face hits the floor.

3 weeks ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 3

They are made for yoga so they shouldn't slip

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

then it's a core exercise!

3 weeks ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

And a core memory if you didn't fall too hard

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I think I, as her spotter, could help keep them in place.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

shes kneeling so that really shouldn't be an ish

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

when the box is no more
and your face hits the floor

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If uhh anyone needs a spotter, I’m available

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Queue Dr Evil voice: “How about no.”.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If you don't have those little boxes. Knees are a suitable substitute

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Can somebody just tell me if this is a real exercise or just a "lol bj" post? I legit have no idea

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She has her web shooters strapped and ready to go.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She seems nice.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Great, now her hands will always be in the way.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Explain how this trains back when the loaded, concentric motion used your shoulders and chest to lift your body?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I should call her…

3 weeks ago | Likes 281 Dislikes 11

Yeah my mental wounds are starting to scab up nicely. This time it will be different.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

with everything i've learned, surely i can make it work

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too, what was her number again?

3 weeks ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

800-325-3535

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

0118 999 881 999 119 725 ...3

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love that a couple of you remembered the exact number all the way through. I'm so proud of you. You will save so many lives.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's easy in my head.
0118 and 811 add up to 999 so it's 3x 999 then the 119 725 3 add up to 1x1 and 3 additional 9s.
That's 1x0, 1x1, 12x9 - that's 3 different numbers in total and that explains the paused 3 at the end.
It's very rational in my head and a totally workable train of thought... for me.

you are making our age show. don't lose that number.

3 weeks ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

You don’t wanna call nobody else

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

what in tarnation... why?

3 weeks ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

Unknown, this exercise will work the chest muscles.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

No it absolutely will not 😂

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Which way is gravity pulling. What muscles pull the elbows down in this posture? - hint, it most definitely is nothing on the back.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The pecas are stretching and you can LITERALLY SEE THE MUSCLES IN THE BACK WORKING TO PULL HER UP AND DOWN.

Tell me you've never heard of eccentric muscle contractions without telling me...

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Eccentric means resisting lengthening. That's what the pecs are doing as the elbows raise/torso lowers. When the elbows come down it is the pecs pulling them down. The muscles of the upper back are not being stretched, and not resisting gravity going up OR down. It is possible that at the very bottom you can actively pull with the back muscles a la Schroeder isometric, but the muscles are fully shortened and resisting...nothing. Training at short muscle length is one step above useless. >

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I miss that phrase. Took me right back to cartoons.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a low impact stretching exercise for people who shrimp at a desk all day. People like that already have fairly high stress loads on their traps, so working out the traps too won't help.

3 weeks ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

This is the kind of thing that would very much help my partner - she has post-orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and doing big-impact exercise can cause attacks, but this exercise won't hit those triggers while still helping her with muscle/stiffness issues from her sit-down work.

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Some women are very self-conscious about trapezius size and don't want them to grow but do want lean muscle definition on their rhomboids

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But it doesn't work like that. Your body releases growth hormone. Yes it will prioritize the areas that are torn down, but it's growth hormone and this exercise won't tear down shit.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think efficacy of the exercise was the point of this post

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because strong backs don't hurt

3 weeks ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 3

I agree, but that movement is not training a back

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

.....it's training for something else

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

What muscle groups do you include in "back"?

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

probably pretty much any combination of traps, lats, rhomboids etc., as well as the various spinal erectors and their neighbours, why?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So the trapezius and rhomboids are no longer part of the back

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

which part of this movement do you consider to be training for the rhomboids and trapezius?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but she doesnt train them at all. No proper resistance the muscles need to overcome and the range of motion is nearly non existing.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Zero resistance and muscles fully shortened, it doesn't even stretch the back muscles... A dead hang from a doorway is 1000% more effective.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm old. Every downward stretch would be a fart, up until I shat myself.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In fact, someone should edit this video to have that audio. That would be a quality post.
