Just in case anyone wants to know what rampant capitalism with little-to-no regulation devolves into. The drivers are paid to hurry faster and faster, with consequences for not going fast enough. No enforcement on the policy or the road. This is free market.

i lived in SE asia for 15 years, communist china, vietnam were the same. taiwan, phillipines same but they were dictatorships mostly. a great catholic priest in high school taught us about all the governing systems (soc, com, dem, mark, stal...). today i realize there is no diff in them all. a few families own and control all the power/wealth.

Thank you. I post this video a lot, because I think it's important for people to realize all leaders are only human. Plenty of the comments I read online seem to indicate that people expect rulers to have this magical, unbreakable moral backbone, but that simply cannot be.

Could be argued that there are distinct differences between the systems and the problem lies in the distinction between claims and reality. I agree though that the end result makes the biggest difference (corruption and the concentration of power/wealth) though.

I read that report. It also seems the first variable is human. Human training: Enforcement of training (to drive safely) enforcement of infractions, and situational training (not just driving, but emergency response training--snow, crashes, wet, foggy, traffic, ect.). This accounted for 70% of accidents. Want a good driving nation? Train your citizens, enforce the law, and enforce the 2nd level training. It seems what we see in India therefore is a lack of training and enforcement of the law.

Yah, i agree and my personal sense is that culture plays a huge roll. I live in the US in East Oakland, the OG of sideshows, hyphy driving, and ghost riding the whip: vehicular manslaughter is a weekly thing, And in Iraq where inshallah driving is the rule: I watched live CCTV a guy in a Maserati doing 200kph clip a guy on a chinese trike doing 20, also a regular occurrence. But the paper tries to correlate quantifiables and the ur correlate is income.

i've lived in se asia 15 years. all the countries except japan and hk were like this. it used to be just like you see in this video except on TWO WAY one lane in each direction. come on those u been there/saw it back me up. it's still like that today in several countries. i saw so many collisions! only direct imports from EU/US had safety glass on vehicles. Nissan locally had no safety glass to save money.

My wife is Indian and I've been there a couple times. I agree with you. I've seen this nonsense first hand, couple that with the constant noise and the cultural difference around personal space, no thanks.

When there we had one bus filled to the rim with equipment and one with us. The equipment one took the lead on 4 hours of dirt road right in front of us, no air conditioning or filters, windows wide open. No matter how much I complained the driver wouldn't pass or put space between the other bus' dust cloud. I coughed my lungs to blood in fetal position it was beyond horrible.
