Noticed this drip today while I was getting gas.
Zoomed in and slowed down. I love how the droplets bounce along the surface before they overcome the surface tension.

I thought this was inside a shitty underfunded school. Glad it's not for once, lol.

I've seen these before but always thought it was bubbles. Very cool!

They are reverse bubbles.

Plot twist: it’s gasoline not water ?

Sometimes you gotta just slow down and appreciate the decaying infrastructure around you. :(
Eiladar
Slick.

This is actually not caused by surface tension, but rather by air being trapped between the droplets and the water surface

It's a layer of air that needs to move out of the way before the droplet can make direct contact and be absorbed

Hate to burst your bubble, but those boxes are all low voltage and made to work in conditions like this.

Well, it can't hurt to try then!

Oh yeah? Well you know what I think?
CeruleanSky1988
I hate to burst YOUR bubble but this was a joke. The facetious nature of my comment must've been too low to encite feelings of joy in you.
mcshady
If its raining while you're out on a lake in a boat or something you can see this happen there too. Its pretty cool.

Slow Mo really sold this

Push for surface tension
RustedFriend
Or maybe service tension

You're a very special sort of person to look at the world this way and take the time to record it. Everybody can but few people ever do

Gracias. I'm a science educator and also generally try to inject more wonder (or bafflement) into the world. I play by fey rules often.

Just my phone. It's a OnePlus 8t.
Cucumberclouds
Cool! I watched them do the thing!
RustedFriend
I first read "them" as referring to me. Like you were at the gas pump next to me watching me film this. Haha.
Cucumberclouds
Haha nope! The droplets slowly getting smaller as they bounce was so cool, was the ‘them’
antonski
That's really poetic.

Makes me think of a dripping ceiling I saw on a train platform in Japan:

I like how official the drip bottle is with its stripy tape.

I've seen super crazy surface tension when feeding cell cultures.
