Then the whole internet made memes and funny videos mocking what happened to him when he did nothing wrong. He almost died in front of his grandkid.

As a snake owner, they just kind of get fixated on a single direction. No matter how much you flip them around or move them to new locations they'll always resume their chosen direction. The one in this clip seems to be trying to go straight to the tall grass and trees, and the human keeps getting in the way instead of simply moving aside.

Reminds me of carpenter bees. We had a colony that hanged around a pagoda tree in our garden (lots of flowers all summer long). My mother is allergic to bee venom, and her allergologist explained to us that carpenter bees are basically dumb robots. They have trouble processing new obstacles on a pre-learned flight path, so the rare carpenter bee stings are due to people not getting out of the way and crashing their software.

You never actually know what a wild animal is going to do. It's why, IMO, the distance thing is bullshit and always has been.
If you're not close enough to a solid structure you can easily reach before the wild animal reaches you, then you're taking the chance of the wild animal deciding you're a threat and fucking you up.
Stay in or near your car, for god's sake.

Same here. They were a good distance, across a street and not doing anything but taking pics. I'd say the truck driving past did more to entice the bison than they did, but they were "there".

If you see the entire video, with sound, the guy and his grandson are a fair, respectful distance away. Then, a white pickup truck drives between the bison and the pair, honking it's horn. Then the pickup truck passes by again, honking it's horn. As the Bison numbers to.it's feet, the guy in the truck skedaddles and once the agitated bison is on it's feet, the only visible targets for it's anger are the elderly man and his tween grandson. Two more things to note, verified by witnesses-->

It's also worth noting they weren't going there for the bison. They were walking back to their house and happened to see it. The only plan was to take some photos and walk away. You can even see them starting to walk away when the whole thing happens.

1) the Bison had already shown aggression towards other parkgoers a short time previous to this incident, and 2) the elderly man chose, once he realized they were cornered and unlikely to escape, chose to draw the Bison's attention so that his young grandson could escape.
I'm not saying mand is a hero, or anything, but he isn't the typical ass that walks up to the Bison and trys to pet it or take a selfie. He was just a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time, and doesn't deserve to be mocked

Yeah I saw the video too. He and the grandson were doing everything that you’re instructed to do when going into the park. Safe distance, not antagonizing; just by chance and bad luck it all lined up the way it did. Normally I side with the animal when it comes to encounters like this. This one, no. I hope the guy can make a full recovery. At that age and with injuries like that, it’s very questionable.

The guys with the bison were keeping a respectful distance. The cougar was behaving oddly, maybe babies near by? The beaver bit a kid who was just fishing. And the whale did not mean to hit that boat. So, I dunno some of them deserve it, but not most.

It might not be a water snake. If you watch closly the person is instigating it by stepping in between the snake and the brush behind him. The snake is repeatedly charging him to try to scare him away or get to the brush you can even see the snake trying to hide in the brush before the guy throw it back into the open once it got past him

Snakes don't have much of a personality, but what they do have seems to be common to a breed - generally. I mean, I've met a really pissy burmese python, but usually they're fairly relaxed. On the other hand, Cottonmouths will go out of their way to attack you, and in general, a lot of water snakes are like that - stay away.
This is different from say, emerald tree boas, which also have a rather awful attitude, but usually reserve that for when you get up in their face.
