An Atlas a day!

Just look at this thing!

I’ve been reading Beautiful Losers whilst drenching my naked body in the tinkling heat of the midday sun and getting lost in deep thought.

I always believed my former dog, Seymour, was my soulmate, if such a thing exists. I never really used to believe that another dog could feel so big and so important to my life and my growth. I’ve known many dogs who’ve taken up special residency in my heart and soul, even long after their earthly presence has perished. But I wasn’t sure another dog would change my life so profoundly as Seymour.

Lately, I’ve really found myself pondering what and who Atlas has become as he’s grown with me. I’ve pondered the lessons he’s taught me, and they are great and many, and none of them easy. I’ve pondered on how he has been exactly who I’ve needed since he came into my life, though I would not have believed that for the first year or so of having him.

Atlas has become something more than a soulmate, I think. I don’t know exactly what that is. Can a dog be a saint? A messiah? Is that insane? Does it matter?

He’s my favorite weirdo. My biggest life force. Perhaps we are twin flames. Perhaps we’re all just trash orphans, rolling in shit and dirt and dead things, and the sooner we can see this, the bigger deep, true love can bloom.

Much love, from a soft saint and his probable pariah.

Praise Saint Atlas!

You can have more than one soul-dog, i believe. You're very lucky to have found a second like this, but there's no rule that says you're only allowed one great love in your life! Atlas is your angel and deserves all the love he reflects right back to you <3

I think of soul dogs in the plural teaching us different lessons or acting as the mirrors we need for the given time we have with them. Of my 3 adult-life dogs and 4 childhood dogs, they were all so different in physical appearance, personalities, cling/distance factors, protective versus needing protection, etc. I wouldn't be the person I am without all of them in my life. I just wish I could have kept them all forever, and I sort of do in my memories, photos and sweet passing thoughts.
