He was terrible to Cassandra. Possessive and incredibly jealous. That scene where him and his buddies pull off an elaborate scheme to spy on her? That's some restraining order level shit.

Calling Mr Krabs a "shitty boss" is kinda underselling it. If we're actually going to view the show through a realistic lens here, he's a pure evil psychopath.
In addition to being an abusive boss in every way possible; he sold SpongeBob's soul for 62 cents. He tried to kill Squidward when an art expert said his paintings would be worth more after his death. He nearly managed to drive Plankton to suicide by torturing him by repeatedly triggering his past traumas.

I never allowed my kids to watch this show, basically for the reasons mentioned, above. The glorification of idiocy and anti-social behavior was not the model I wanted for them. Oddly, it was just this show. The Simpsons, Family Guy, Cat-Dog, Pinky & the Brain - those were ok.

There's some truth to this, but Squidward is also his own worst enemy: He does NOT ask for so little, instead (among other things) he demands praise and adoration for artistic talent (which he lacks), and recognition of his genius (which he also lacks.) He is pretentious and has delusions of grandeur, and SO MUCH of his misery comes from having to live with the fact that he is not what he wants so desperately to be, but he won't do anything to actually improve himself or his attitudes.

Squidward reminds me so much of the professor in Gilligan's Island. Or worse, the doctor in Lost in Space... pretentiousness without substance. Willing to sabotage his peers to preserve the status quo. I should like Squidward at my age, but I sympathize more with Sandy -- kind of kooky, kind of a free spirit, but a good grounding influence on The danger duo.

I dunno, the monotony of office work next to an aggressive "Acktwually" like Dwight would do something to a person. The calming feeling as the stapler slowly submerges in the carefully prepared gelatin is a good alternative to the American Psycho scenarios that would probably play through Jim's head.

Difference was that Daria was like 16, and Spongebob and Patrick are supposed to be adults (given that they live in their own homes, and not with parents). Most 16 year olds are in the wrong quite often. They learn more as they grow up.

I thought that was part of the show? She's supposed to reflect the nihilistic edge of the youth of that day, hells, she was right more often than she was wrong. From what I remember, she was usually only wrong whenever it came to her assumptions and/or interactions with people. But a lot of the commentary she had on society, bigotry, corporations, education, the music/art industries and even the expectations of "surviving" in America, have actually gotten worse, sadly.

Catcher in the Rye could have been an inspiring story about someone waking up from the toxic and entitled way their family raised them, to become more emotionally aware of themself and others. But instead it's mostly just Holden bumbling around and being an unsympathetic little turd for hundreds of pages, giving no indication that he has learned fuckall.
I feel bad for him that his family made him that way, sure. But he's right at the age where people start to have the agency to grow past...

Its not that they lost the music rights, but contracts from then only cleared music for broadcast/cable, dvds and streaming werent a thing so when that started the music owners were like, nope, that wasnt included! Been watching a lot of tv commentaries lately and music rights are some of the biggest expenses for a show sometimes, like theyll have to cut other stuff just to budget around getting a certain song. Still pissed Vinyl got canceled cuz of it, no way sales of those songs didnt go up.

Home video was absolutely a thing in the 90s that rights owners knew about. MTV shows were a special case when it came to the music rights. MTV had a blanket right to use the music they aired and this allowed them to use that music in their shows in a way other channels couldn't. They didn't have to bake the music into the show, allowing them to change what music was played to cater to whatever was hot for that airing of the show. So, shows like Daria never HAD the rights to the music.
