Only one more trip I swear…

Just getting the job done…

Okay so here is the actual progress! It doesn’t look like much but it’s the base the big changes are going to rapidly grow from. Working today on the final day which is day 4, the goal is to finish it ALL by 2pm… it’s 6am now, so let’s goooooo

#2 ahaha this gave me a good chuckle

Diggin' the overalls.

I thought the bi-fold latch was on the wrong part of the gate, at first.
Then thinking it through, does it matter at all? No, not really.
In fact, having it on the moving gate means you're less likely to catch on it walking through, than if it was on the vertical stationary post.
Thank you for showing me something different.

#1 omg your smile at the start almost made my day,then... the 2nd part of video. :P NGL U had me in the first half :P

Just HOW do you get the energy and motivation to do these things, AND finish them?!

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My usual motivation is "If I don't finish this before the next storm, it's gonna get SO much harder and more expensive." Unfortunately the weather has a sense of humor. Which is how I found myself installing ground anchors and saddling steel cables in the freezing rain.

girl, I know the sun has been showing its face to us lately, but it's still a shy smile. It's too cold and yucky in the mornjng/night for dyi.
You're far braver than me v_v

Every damn project: Three trips!

the awkward moment the hardware store employees start recognizing you...

2 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#1 Just wait until you need to do a minor home repair and you find out the previous home owner who repaired it previously did a super cheap repair and you need to go to the hardware store for a single screw and washer only to get home and realize you now need two for some reason.

Omg I was in tears over #1 🤣

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#1 yes, the old "ah, we need to just nip out and get..."
Been there!

What ya building?

That looks like such a fun project!

Can you get decent wood at hardware stores on your side of the pond? In Germany it's basically impossible to get wood that's usable for anything, everything you can buy is warped and covered in knots. Super frustrating, but getting it from a sawmill is prohibitively expensive :(

Final day is day 4? HAHAHA! My young padawan, its never done. You always want to add something, take something out, just "Well I can make that a little nicer." You will know the Lowes people by first name.

Also remember, when you own a house you are NEVER done! My parents have live in the same house since 1986 and they are still doing shit xD

Always check the weather forecast before doing things like this. And for those who live in Ireland: consult the local witch because forecast is 100% wrong 50% of the time -.-

2 months ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

How wrong is it the rest of the time? 50%?

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Question. Will a vengeful sea hag work for weather forecasting as well? Our local witch is on a 2 week cruise atm.

2 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Basically the same weather there as it is here in the PNW, yeah. In the spring especially, if you don't like the weather, just wait a couple hours!

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hours? In Ireland, the saying is: If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute. Another good one is about the three states of weather in Ireland 1. Raining 2. Just stopped raining 3. Just about to rain.

If you dont make 3 extra trips in o Lowes are you even DIYing?

2 months ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 3

You also have to spend more time looking for the tools you need for the job than actual time spent doing the job

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

only 3? looks like we have a seasoned DIYer here

2 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

We don't have Lowes in my country so I can't ever know how it feels to DIY 😭

We won’t discus how many trips it took to get everything we needed to install an 8’ privacy fence last summer…..

We know Jesus was divine because he once finished a carpentry project without going back to Home Depot.

Hopefully that time estimate is double of what you first thought, because otherwise... double it. Shit always take longer than you think.

2 months ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 4

I always double and it still takes longer, I'm terrible at predicting how long things take

2 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It always takes longer than you think because no matter how much you plan once you start doing a thing you find there's always more to it

2 months ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Hofstadter's law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's law.

2 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Sometimes, it's just much shorter. I had to replace my dishwasher and it took me an hour. Nothing went wrong. I removed the old one, cleaned up, installed, leveled, and set up the new one. It was cool that you could adjust the rear height from the front. I also like that it opens when it is done.

My rule of thumb is estimate time x 2 + 1. Whatever the unit of time estimate.

2 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

At work I like to joke it takes welders 30 minutes to put their hood on and 30 minutes to take their hood off. That's where the +1 comes in, sorting and cleanup and finding where the f'ing 10mm went.
