Love your review! Once of my fave movies as a teen. Just a note though: modern D&D did indeed exist at the time that this movie came out. I know, because I was an awkward young teen when it did, and I was playing it with the other gifted (aka nerds) kids in my grade 8 class. We watched Legend in between Monte Python movies and skits. Great videos!

Oh, I meant as "Modern" D&D the second one, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, with more stylized goblins akin to what was seen in the movie. This movie is from 1985, and AD&D was from 1989. Nonetheless, thanks!

I have this thing about TV shows where I'll watch pretty much anything if it looks like/I hear that the cast/crew is having a good time and Supernatural is probably in the top 5 shows where everybody appears to be having the time of their freakin' lives on and off set.

The first time I saw that homage I knew of and had seen clips, but hadn't actually sat down and watched Twin Peaks, so when they got to that closing scene in the diner I thought I was having a stroke

Adaptations of comic books always piss somebody off. I also enjoyed it. It was a bit heavy handed in places, but it was worth watching and had some great bits.

It's a movie. If you want the book, go read the book. Books rarely make good movies as written. You don't get a narrator that tells you what everyone is thinking during a scene in a movie and you can't explain in detail everything that's going on. And then you have situations like How to Train Your Dragon, where the movies are great and are literally completely different stories all together from the source material. So different that only the names are the same, and even then, not all of them.

The issue with adaptations is if it’s not done faithfully it has to be interesting enough to invest in otherwise it’s simply cashing in on brand recognition disappointing fans of the actual IP and boring newcomers to something that in the worst cases are generally because the people doing the adaptation are simply there for a job and don’t care about the property enough to do it justice.

Sometimes, yeah. But with something as beloved as Watchmen you're going to get a lot of pushback from fans of the original work if you make any but the smallest changes.

Fans are almost always why we can't have nice things. I blame the fans for why we didn't get more of 'The Watch' the Discworld inspired show. Just because it wasn't a carbon copy rehash of the books... I love the books, but I was also very interested in the show's version of the Discworld. A retro-futuristic cyber-fantasy take on the classic discworld was really damn interesting imo.

Personally it was the contrived repetitive plot that got stale. Someone keeps a secret, the other finds out, argue for maybe two episodes and burying the hatchet promising this time “we’ll trust each other” rinse & repeat.
