Dog's right to be wary; a lot of human fatalities due to cows are the cows getting upset at the presence of a predator and attacking. With calves especially they can decide simply NOT to allow the dog in their space. If the fence wasn't there and the dog had those zoomies the cows might freak tf out.
I love how curious and friendly cows are. I used to live across the street from a farm with an herd and it was hilarious to walk by or wait for the bus by the street. They come over and moo at you.
Moved to Baja Mexico with the Labrador. We ruff-water swim (yes, it's a thing) out in the ocean daily. Had a humpback whale and her calf come up to us one morning. Bishop, the Labrador lost his mind at the over sized dogs, swimming in circles and breaching. Top 10 life moment for either of us.

I looked into a vegetarian diet, but a lot of involves eating a ton of beans, and I just do not like beans that much.

That sucks. There are excellent heme iron oral pills these days (though kinda expensive) and also Venofer IV iron.
