I think we went up in the ranking in the NL due to electric bikes and people not figuring out basic safety when going 10-15km/h faster than usually.

Covid screwed up statistics for a lot of sectors, including road safety - total miles/km's travelled went right down, so stats from 2020-22 look artificially better (safer) than other years. (actually, in some countries deaths went up, as people lost it while racing on the empty roads)

Would probably be good to see average distance/time travelled as well. My trips probably average around 15min in the UK, but in the US they seem to think nothing of driving an hour to go shopping.

You'd also have to factor in the accident rate by type of road. For example, how does 15 minutes on a British A/B road stack up against 15 minutes on a motorway?

yeah, depends where you live too. where i am its 15 mins to the closest grocery, 30 for a movie theater, and an hour to a shopping center.

Given how everyone drives in the UK the number should be higher, cars are fantastically safe, and how great our Paramedics, EMTs, and ECAs along with HEMS teams.

Although there's a lot of selfishness, phone-use and speeding in the UK, the average driver is better-educated, more safety-conscious, and drives a better-quality (safer) vehicle on better-designed roads than most of the rest of the world.

Agree. Now I live in North America and there is really no comparison in terms of road designs and driving standards. And don't get me started on those trucks that are so lethal to pedestrians.

If I were to guess, it may be correlated to yearly miles driven per individual. While a high percentage of US citizens both own a car and drive regularly, that rate may be lower in India.
