One of the things "AI" (quotes because "AI" is such a broad term) is actually good at is pattern-matching and that IS a useful surveillance tool…hell, back ion the 60's IBM built what was at the time by far the most powerful computer specifically for the NSA to "search text for keywords from a watchlist."

The theme seems to be that everything tax payer owned is expendable. Troops, planes, bombs. Everything privately owned is sacred. I think it’s because private equity owns our government. The military exists for their security, and global enforcement. It’s paid for by the funds they can’t steal from the tax payers. These data centers will remain private. They will contract services to the government, and will never experience oversight, or taxes.

I tend to agree. AI started out as LLM and stumbled a few times, going nowhere beyond novelty Chat Bots. My favorite story being the LLM tasked to tell Huskies from other Dogs, fed 100,000s of pics for a %60ish hit rate before they realized it was looking for snow in background. Backing waxed and waned until it was rebranded as AI and during a Start Up Boom, right pitch/right time, gained traction and Capital. The rest, they rewrote as speculative history, Ground Floor Investment Boom happened.

My favorite is similar.
AI developed to detect skin cancer. It has a very high success rate. On closer examination it was discovered that it was looking for scale rules in the picture. No information on how good it may have been at detecting bananas.

The same point. LLMs were sold as AI to boost investment. And the investment outgrew the Tech. Now that LLMs have gone nowhere beyond ChatBots, the Investment is now a Investiture in the New Gen of AI which is not viable. Rather than ride the Crash when the Bubble Bursts, we see the Bubble being inflated with Data Centers and RAM Hoarding and the like. Now Governments are Onboard. This will be another "Too Big To Fail" Scenario. We saw how that went. Cut your Losses!

I've never really understood the advertising mentality. I can't remember the last time I saw a commercial and was like, "Ah yes, that's a product I am definitely going to go get now." Maybe I'm just too poor and basically buy what is cheapest and not name brands so I'm not the target audience.
