I remember wandering the streets up to the river, south of Canal st, and meeting some fine folks around a fire (it was winter). Talked with them about music for a while, I had a walkman with Argentinian music. Fun times!

The inhabitants of the Iberian peninsula aren't exactly known for having particularly pale skin either. Same for Greece. Pretty much anyone south of the Alps was not considered white at some point. And then there is the Irish who were still considered second class citizens despite being very pale.
