"There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."

Once again..I pick..the bear đŸ»

I’m originally from a pretty empty part of the world and I always share bear stories. About a month ago I shared one at a work dinner and everyone at the table looked like I had to be lying because bears don’t run around in small towns
and I didn’t even know how to handle that.

Ursa minor misdemeanor

It's been bad here in Colorado because drought conditions have made wild food sources for bears scarce. Bear attacks are up. Bears getting hit by cars are up. General human interactions with bears are up. The food scarcity is driving bears to come into human inhabitanted ares searching for food. There will probably be a massive starvation die-off over the coming winter because of these conditions.

Of course it's fucking Gatlinburg

Just trying to decide which fast food place he wants to go to.

Myrtle Beach of the mountains.

Maybe the Myrtle beach from the late 70s and early 80s. MBSC has come much farther than to be compared to Gatlinburg.

oh the days of Dime operated ski-ball, free play with one of the old McDonald's coffee stirers.

There's a bear claw involved so the police are on it.

Was that during Jeep Invasion??

This isn't the Five Guys & a Bear video I was looking for

In the seventies we called it the streak, running bare down the street.

6 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

"Halftime, I's just goin' down thar to get Ethel a snow cone. And here he come, right out of the cheap seats, dribbling, right down the middle of the court. Didn't have on nothing but his PF's. Made a hook shot and got out through the concessions stand. I hollered up at Ethel, I said, "Don't look, Ethel!" But it was too late. She'd already got a free shot. Grandstanded her, right there in front of the home team." Oh, yes, they call him the Streak (Boogity, boogity)

Poor bear. He was probably scared.

Shoot 'em up cinema?

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ya...no one talking about that name?

5 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those flashing lights just made the whole situation unbearable...

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I could take him.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Poor guy looks terrified

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The cop bearly made that 3-point turn

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

im sure the flashing lights are helping

1 week ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 3

Those loud noises will do it for sure

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to provoke it intentionally so that they get to use their service weapons. It's a black bear after all

5 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cops are really good at deescalating...

1 week ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

Probably the same one the wandered through during the day about a month back

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Hey Bob, what's that?" "Dunno, let's shoot it!"

1 week ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A bear wanted some 5 guys,

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are we just going to ignore "shoot 'em up cinema"?

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could the cops be dumber?

Yes, yes they could.

1 week ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

Looked like they wanted to go hit the bear ?

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How are they supposed to handle the bear? In Finland, we have local hunter groups, that the police will contact in case they need to put down a bear. They don't engage themselves, they do not provoke and they'll just isolate the area and keep everyone safe..

6 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'll start with "Don't show up with your flashing lights quite possibly driving the bear into violent behavior".

6 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If the department could find dumber people to be cops they would have hired them instead

6 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

And those whom even the police won't take anymore then go to ICE.

6 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And everyone just stays right in the bear's way. This proves men and women choose the bear.

6 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm surprised they haven't shot it by the time this video was taken. After all it's black! They sure do shoot people for doing less.

Poor guy. On a related note, Gatlinburg is an overly-commercialized blight that puts a big plastic scar on one of the prettiest areas in the country. People go there, ride go carts, wear cowboy hats, ride the competing go carts across the street, and then go home saying they experienced the Smoky Mountains.

Gatlinburg was great in the 70s and early 80s. Then commercialism effed it up. Glad I am old enough to enjoy the glory days. The World's Fair was nearby in 1982, in Knoxville. Things change.

And half the people actually doing nature stuff are either driving an enormous rolling luxury apartment or are the kind of campers who throw their empties into the woods and do as much off-trail disruption as possible because apparently it’s legal if you don’t get caught.

And come home bragging about how good the “moonshine” they bought there is. They think it’s really moonshine.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The difference between moonshine and that sugary junk they sell in mason jars is the difference between Krakatoa erupting and a coloring book picture of Krakatoa erupting.

1/2 You have to actually LEAVE and go up into the mtns honestly. As someone that grew up in the area, at the risk of sounding way older than I am, it’s not what it used to be over 20 years ago. But once you get out into the mountains like you’re going into Cherokee NC it’s absolutely gorgeous and during the fall after it’s rained, it looks like something out of a fantasy novel with the way the fog rolls down the mountain over all the different trees.

6 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

2/2 Now it’s a wealthy personals idealized version of the South and Appalachia. Except it rips away so much of its history with moonshining, community and class struggles etc that it used to celebrate and just delivers caricatures. Also it annoys me how every other store is just a shit copy of the one down the street from it.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. I've been going to that area for the F100 super Nationals since 1982 or '83. Now I mostly just ride the BR parkway or Cherahola skyway on my motorcycle. I did marry a woman from Oak Ridge almost 6 years ago so we go up to see her Momma at least once a month.

It was a fun little family spot back then, now it's atrocious and just keeps sprawling.

6 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it's pretty bad, and it's too bad because it's a beautiful location, and the National Park is amazing. BUT, I had a fried cinnamon roll at Crockett's Breakfast Camp and it was delicious. Also, I backpacked extensively in the Smokies, so I feel entitled to that area. And there's a pretty neat ghost town up there.

Must be so scared...

And the cops coming after him. For what? They should know he's got a right to his bear arms.

There are surprisingly many video clips of black bears in Gatlinburg.

Gatlinburg is a city in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. It is located 39 miles (63 km) southeast of Knoxville and had a population of 3,577 at the 2020 census.

Yea they’re extremely common in the area. My sister snuck off when we were little because she wanted to check out cubs that were hanging out in front of the hotel we were staying in. I grew up in the area and bears are a common sighting and there are signs warning about them ALL OVER but people refuse to read them. They’ll feed them, chase them and basically do anything except call wildlife services when their number is plastered all over.
