Medium rare, with rosemary and garlic

Dude, Imma vegetarian, but if I got the chance to eat a T-Rex I probably would. The curiosity in me is strong like that.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Which bbq sauce would go well with T-Rex? Mesquite? Yea… a good ol’ Mesquite would…

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No amount of delicious spices would make T-rex meat any less tough, or less stringy. It's like a 4 day crock pot stew just to be edible.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Who says you wouldn't eat a T-Rex? The T-Rex.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

okay so setting aside that obviously everyone would eat a t rex, chickens arent descended from t rexes, they just share a relatively recent common ancestor. all the t rexes definitely died pretty soon after the meteor, and chicken and all the other birds are descended from other smaller djnosaurs that were better suited to survive

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Apprently t rex would taste awful because it is a large carnivorous predator and has a build up of heavy metals or something

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I know birds evolved from theropods, but I'm pretty sure that the specific theropods that evolved into birds were the small fluffy theropods, not the giant stompy ones.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Massive data gap on that theory. First 'bird' is older than any theropod. Latest actually known mutual ancestor is some crocodilian. Birds still have crocodilian hips, no Theropod does. Theropods are hip walkers, like us. Birds are knee walkers, unlike any dinosaur. Thigh bone is bound up in abdominal muscle and fascia, a prime mover for bird's unique breathing system. Bird knee acts like theropod and mammal hip. All theropods have counterbalancing tail for hip walking. No bird has such a tail.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Including all the non-flying birds who only walk/run. And there is more. Theropods and birds both have 2 fingers of the original 5 in the 'hand/wing' that get reabsorbed in the egg. Different two fingers between them.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Birds were anatomically modern by the time of the KT extinction. We just lost a ton of diversity in terms of morphology. Both in stompyness and fluffiness (and size)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kinda ironic they use an apex-predator as a prop for not eating meat

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any chicken will try to eat you if only It could, exacpty as a T-Rex would do, that's why I'm not shy at all about eating a chicken.

3 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

having been bitten by a chicken... yep.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The skeleton of a T-rex was found with the bones of another T-rex in its’ stomach. There’s even evidence to suggest fratricide.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

chickens will eat the corpses of other chickens

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Doesn't have to be a corpse, fir them to start eating

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chickens are so brutal.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Chickens commonly eat mice which shocked the fk outta me cause I just learned it like 2 weeks ago

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd definitely try a t-rex.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They ate dinosaur too you know?

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Who's "they"? Other dinosaurs?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

T. Rex.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Peta posts are usually dumb. But this is one of the dumbest arguments I've ever seen from Peta. I dont know anyone who would not be willing to try T-Rex.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

They were so preoccupied with whether or not you would, they didn't stop to think if you could.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When I was a kid I saw eel sushi and thought "I'd like to eat an eel". Last Monday I saw gator fritters on the menu and said "fuck I'll eat a gator" so yes I would like to eat a Trex

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would eat the fuck out of a T-Rex.

T-rex t-bone

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'm all about being ethical and treating animals in the best possible manner, but fuck PETA. They can eat a bag of rancid veggie dicks

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

PETA really is not finding a good way to explain what they want in a compelling way to those of us who actually like meat. and hunting. and fishing.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If there'd be ANY animal that tasted like chicken...

3 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

That’s not a T-Rex. That’s the fictional “Vastasaurus” from the Jack Black King Kong movie.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Look, iif it walks like a T-rex, roars like a T-rex,and tastes like chicken, it's on the menu.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A) Chickens aren’t descended from T-Rex, the branch off of Avian Dinosaurs was much earlier than T-Rex. B) T-Rex would absolutely eat chicken, no question.

3 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 1

you forgot C) Fuck PETA.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Hell, chickens would eat other chickens without a doubt.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Still fairly closely related. Avian Dinosaurs are theropods like Tyrannosaurus were.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

well yes but not really. birds descended from maniraptoran dinosaurs that split from their last common ancestor with tyrannosaurids some 200 Mya. your claim is as accurate as saying that we're closely related to bears because we're both carnivora.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Seals are bears :) I have nothing useful to add to this conversation but wanted to share that fun factoid.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We aren’t carnivora. We’re primates. And of course it’s not as close as us with other great apes, but despite the fact that they aren’t in the same evolutionary line, they are some of the most closely related animals to birds especially since you have to go all the way back to the clades that include crocodilians to find any evolutionary lines that that are still alive today. I’d argue my statement was more akin to the great ape being decently close to extinct monkeys in the grand scheme 1/2

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of things rather than saying chickens are cousins with the T. rex. And I think that’s a fair statement considering how there are insect orders with more species in them than there are vertebrate species.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yummy dino

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Apparently, due to size and status as top predators, scientists have decided T-Rex would have had a high proportion of heavy metals in their flesh. They would both taste terrible and poison you in one sitting. So you might eat a Rex, but only once.

3 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

They where thought to be carrion eaters, so they probably had a type of maggot in their stomachs to help process dead flesh. No Bueno on the t-rex breast meat.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One. One major paleontologist claims they were scavengers. There is fossil evidence of healed Rex bites. I don't put much stock in Horner's claims. In the current biosphere, predators always outweigh the scavengers. Rex may have been an opportunistic scavenger, but I highly, highly doubt it was primarily so.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm just thinking about the body type. I'm fairly certain they couldn't run much faster than, let's say an Elephant, it being so big and that speed would be in short bursts and mostly used for territorial behaviors. Defending land and walking a territory line. You are correct, though. Hornets claimed where purely speculative and unsupported.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heavy Metal T-rex. Bitchen.

There was an old Pinky & the Brain episode where Brain’s plan was to get money to fund cloning T.Rex for agricultural purposes, and crash the worlds poultry industry.

T-Rex Steak, T-Rex Burgers, Roasted T-Rex, T-Rex Lasagne, T-Rex Meat Loaf, T-Rex Jerky, T-Rex Kebap, T-Rex Schnitzel

3 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Things at the top of the food chain don't make for good eating these days because of all the environmental toxins. DDT almost killed off the large birds of prey.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You'd likely need to store a lot of it. It'd probably rot before you could eat it all.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And all that lovely white meat! The breasts would be enormous and since the arms are useless it'd be so tender.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now imagine a T. Rex that has been selectively bred like a turkey to have enormous pectoral muscles like domestic turkeys.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've eaten gator which is basically T-Rex. They are great and DO kinda taste like chicken

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I've tried (farmed) alligator, which tasted like chicken but had a fish-like texture.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cladistically, chicken is closer to T-rex than gator.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Today you're gonna learn something new. Modern chicken tastes like nothing, that's why so many things "taste like chicken", they also have no flavor. Here's a good read explaining it if you're interested. https://nypost.com/2015/04/26/why-nothing-especially-chicken-tastes-like-it-used-to/

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So the Matrix was right?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

So lemme just point something out: this is ONLY factory-farming which is p. much ONLY in the US to this extent. Anywhere else in the world, chickens are relatively normal, and taste like... chicken. They definitely have a taste. And from what I've heard from an African dude who explained it to me, crocodiles absolutely taste like fishy chicken. Which APPARENTLY taste like hippo meat (which was the first thing he compared it to until I told him "what??").

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fair point.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Time travel vs genetic clone raised in modern times would also be a factor I'd guess. IIRC there was a thing about possible high levels of heavy metals back then making dinosaur meat likely toxic to us now.

I got into a debate with someone who was vegan and one of the arguments was essentially "You only eat meat because you think it comes from a store. You wouldn't eat meat if you had to hunt and kill it yourself!" So I thought "You know, you're right! If I'm going to eat meat, I should be willing to hunt and kill it myself!" So that's how I started hunting.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's nice. What burn are you even talking about? I agreed with their premise. Fuck off with your too cool cynicism.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I raise my own chickens for eggs and meat and I process them myself.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had the same argument except I was already farming. "I kill my own turkeys, and let me tell you, they'd love the idea they became food."

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"I'd kill *you* to eat this in peace. You don't know me."

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

[…] vegans.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

I only have a problem with mistreatment of animals. But if you have a problem with eating meat... take it up with whatever Maker you believe in.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

After working on a ranch I dramatically reduced how much meat I eat. I treat it as the luxury it is, not the staple the meat industry wants you to think of it as. Especially in America, mind bogglingly huge subsidies keep meat unsustainably cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if you could feed the entire human world population with the agricultural effort of American meat production. (Might dive down that rabbit hole. I already know that would be a bit complicated to solve for)

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

-that vegan's reaction

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Got to love Vegans and their logic. Humans need protein, even if it is not from meat. Humans were meant to eat meat, despite what the vegans say. There was no meat substitute available when humans were hunter gatherers thousands of years ago.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

We also didn't have toilets back then but I prefer that to shitting in a hole in the woods. Things change.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My point was, be a vegan if you like, but don't make stuff up, like saying that humans were not meant to eat meat. We started off as predators, and we were meant to eat meat. We need protein to survive. There are benefits to being a vegan, yes. I respect the choice of those who choose to be vegan.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of projection going on there. The argument in the comment you replied to was that if you eat meat you should be prepared to kill the animal yourself. We were not "meant" to eat meat. We were meant to eat whatever the fuck we could. And yes, we need protein to survive but protein is not only found in meat. Protein is made up of amino acids that are also found in plants. I can respect your choice to eat meat but not you hiding behind made up stuff up like "we were meant to".

Vegans get winded trying to dig turnips out of lose soil and are angry because persistence hunting takes less energy than taming the climate, the water cycle, and the soil so they can grow enough cauliflower to make a shitty pizza crust

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Vegans are almost universally city folks. They don’t seem to be aware of how big hunting is in America. Maybe they don’t realize that you absolutely have to bleed out a deer when you kill it. Pretty sure you pull out and discard the entrails too.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband worked briefly in meat plants doing inspections. It took him 4 visits before he decided to hunt for our meat.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yep. Food good.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had this same line of thought, but all I had available were the rats that my friend was overbreeding. Was seriously contemplating making some rat soup for a while.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a stupid argument, on both sides imo. Why don't I eat meat? Because I don't like to kill living beings. I like them to stay alive. And ecological reasons, too. But mostly the life thing.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'd ask em if they wanted home made venison and talked about hunting every time they brought it up again. There's legitimate reasons to not like eating meat, but don't think calling someone ignorant, or straight up dumb, is going to change their mind on the subject.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"No, you only ate meat because you thought it came from a store. I know that animals are killed and butchered to get there. One of us lived in a fantasy world and couldn't come to terms when reality was thrust upon them!"

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If deer dont die a violent death the two other options are disease or they starve to death when their teeth wear out and they can't eat food anymore: https://youtu.be/C_uC2YfFzps

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

This argument is rhetorical. You wouldn't live in a house if you had to build it yourself. You wouldn't drink water if you had to go to the stream and get it yourself.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I toss back that I HAVE hunted my own meat before, the only reason people dont do that know is it isn't realistic for everyone to be all hunter-gatherer if we society to be a thing. They know that though, the arguments were never meant to be in good faith anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh, absolutely!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only eating meat you hunt or farm yourself is a very ethical and sustainable path. Plus, you get to give them cute names, like "Salad" and "Carrots", so you can make it sound like you're eating healthy when in reality you're gorging on pork belly

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always thought that way myself, never actively seeked it out cause can't be fucked trying to get a gun license. Then I was working on a farm and they asked if I wanted to help cull some of the older ones.... shiet guess I gotta do it then. Sliced neck, grab feet and hang it in a upside down traffic cone to drain the blood. Then the rest of the processing as well, I love chicken, favourite meat

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can Never kill enough dear. Forest destroying little bastards.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

It's deer, dear

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If only there was a natural predator of deer, one that could take out the sick and old or the young that have poor genetics. Man, it’d b super awesome if such a predator existed. Oh well. I guess killing the animal w the largest rack or is healthy is just gonna have to suffice.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

We kill around as many, or more deer with vehicles as we do with hunting. Vehicle deaths are often more brutal, slow affairs, and include property damage and even human death as a consequence. I'd rather shoot a deer than run one over.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same. I hunt cows. They're so easy. They just stand there, out in the open, and let you walk right up to them.... Then BAM!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I grew up in a family of hunters, on a small farm. I know all too well where my food comes from. I have never once thought of being vegan because i know humans aren't vegans by nature. It's the mass production of meat that makes me sad.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was eating deer jerky a friend brought into the bar we hung out at & a guy at the bar eating a burger and fries said to me that I shouldn’t eat it if I wouldn’t hunt and kill it. I asked how many cows he’s killed & how many potatoes he’s dug up. He paused and hit me with an honest to god “…touché.”

I had someone try and pull the "BuT dO yOu UsE eVeRy PaRt Of ThE aNiMaL?!" freakout. Yes I do - as much as I can. Certain things like brains and livers aren't safe but hearts, kidneys, bones and scraps all get used, and I keep a bag of frozen wings/backs/legs from small game birds to make *the best* "chicken" stock for soup and sauces. I don't need to "buy it from a store".

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Chicken livers and giblet gravy. Yum.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Factory farming also uses every part of the animal. Nothing goes to waste. Mechanically separated meat is the remains after its been butchered. Cartilage is used to make gelatin. Even the bones are ground up and used.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is wild liver unsafe? I mean, I can't stand liver anyway so I never bothered to find out... Good catfish bait, though

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where I live it’s not safe or recommended to eat venison/moose liver. Now for years ours got used anyway, my great uncle always ate it and was in his 80s (and then had terminal skin cancer) so he really didn’t care or worry.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell, a vegan should actually support hunting more than most farming anyway. It's free-range, all natural and the death a hell of a lot quicker.

3 years ago | Likes 237 Dislikes 7

Adrenaline ruins the meat, slaughter houses literally have the cow go through a winding path then curtain and get a nail to the forehead to prevent any adrenaline buildup. so depends on what you mean by 'deaths quicker' are they dead when they are put into the path or when the nail turns their brain into mush

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've known a handful of vegan/vegetarian folk who would eat wild game meat if it was offered to them.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You'd think. But every vegan I've asked says it's the same because they still die. And one told me humans aren't part of nature. The stereotype exists.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Death is not per se slower for all butchers.

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

"captured bolt gun" - yes, a slaughterhouse can be as fast and clean as a good shot from a hunter.

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

as a vegetarian i do, cus as much as it is a "moral" thing for me, i'm as much a concern about the environmental impact, that fucks way more animals then hunting.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

We absolutely need to revolutionize our agriculture. All of it. What caused the insect die off that is happening? Mass insecticide use certainly doesn’t help. Not to mention ammonia is made from natural gas, and had a huge carbon footprint.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Co-founder of PETA said exactly that to me once: he'd rather people not eat meat, but if they are then hunting is absolutely the best route to take. I think responsible husbandry is also a good, more reliable option but industrial farming has taken over.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Most vegans actually supports this a lot more. I have a sort of curse that for the last decade, every girl I dated/been a relationship with was either vegan or vegetarian. All of them didnt care about me eating meat and are just mostly happy that I only eat meat a couple times a week. An ethical way to get your meat is fine with most of them

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My brother is vegan, but he has said that he’d consider hunting or eating meat from hunting. He’s just very against the factory farm conditions and the environmental impact.

3 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Environmental impacts is why i try and eat more chicken and less beef. Vegan would be better, but for my level of energy, its low hanging fruit.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Absolutely valid, yeah. Factory farming is just cruelty for profit. It doesn't taste better, grow better, or even really cost that much less for the consumer, but those corps get to rake it in. I've raised my own pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, horses, the whole lot. Yeah it's work, and of course city folk can't be doing this on their small plots, but there's no reason healthily farm raised meats couldn't be the mandated norm.

Right and some predators tend to disembowel and start eating their prey before killing them.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Bears are rumored to prefer live prey, eating the limbs first.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some forget that hunting is a good way to control populations too. We killed off many of their natural predators so now we have to keep them from wiping out their own food sources with pure numbers.

The story about wolves being reintroduced to yellowstone is super interesting. Just by their hunting they changed the course of rivers, brought dozens of species back, and lots of other helpful things.

That’s the dumbest argument plus the assumption that you don’t know where meat comes from is deeply insulting. I’d be insulted. 🤷‍♂️

Insulted, and hungry...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Should turn it back. "How long did it take you to learn where meat came from?"

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right what condescension, they assume you're a child and don't know your chicken nuggets come from real chicken. Otherwise you'd obviously be vegan like they are. Cue the Michael Scott "now I'm going to eat meat even harder/ that's what she said."

😂

And venison/bison is better than beef anyway.

Disagree

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It is a shame we didn't figure out a method of large scale harvest for free roaming herds of bison. We didn't need to drag millions of cattle across the middle of a country covered in millions of bison. Periodic harvest of a carefully limited nature, combined with some captive farming, and we could be eating leaner, healthier meat today.

Cows are slow dumb animals because we've bred them to be that way over centuries. Sure there's a few smart ones, and they move quickly enough when they have murder on the mind, but when you compare them to bison it's like comparing an f150 to an abrams tank. Buffalo ranching is extremely dangerous and requires a very heavy built infrastructure for when you need to work them for anything. Bison was never going to replace beef as a reliable source of meat no matter which way history went.

Bison, maybe (it's pretty lean). Venison can be good, but it's an acquired taste. Elk is different from whitetail deer.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed. I prefer Elk and Moose actually. Backstrap and moose pepperoni are my top notch.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that like a pizzle stick?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've eaten a lot of both as well as mule deer and love them all but elk is by far my favorite meat.

It's good to connect with nature that way. I think it does make you respect where meat comes from more. They should show more videos of meat packing plants too. It us important to see that. Currently it is illegal in the states to show those meat packers in a bad way. Maybe they would clean up their act and people would waste less of it.

Don't know of any law making it illegal to show how a slaughterhouse works. I've seen a kosher slaughter at a meat packing plant, and that throat slitting is not an 'instant' death, as some have been indoctrinated to believe. They buck and kick as they bleed out, which may take less than a minute, but it isn't nearly so clean and merciful as a captive bolt to the brain. That video is out there, and I've never heard of anyone being arrested for it.

https://awionline.org/legislation/anti-whistleblower-ag-gag-legislation. So they say it is to prevent unauthorized recordings but it is so people don't see how nasty it can be. Look up the trouble Opra got into just by making a comment about slaughter houses. The industry went after her for millions. It is quite obvious the law ishere to prevent people from discussing or knowing what is going on. I think k most people would demand change. I eat meat every day so I am not a tree hugger

Without looking it up, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to record (secretly) inside the slaughterhouse. Which means when you share it, you've shared illegally obtained footage because of course no one would ever give permission.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's exactly it.the packers will give a nice sanitized recording of the process. Or maybe not, I don't think I have ever seen one.

The bolts don’t kill a lot of the time, they concuss them. When the bolt fails they have electric chainsaws to finish them off. *supposedly* the slit causes instant shock if the arteries are severed and leads to less physical pain. Idk why there isn’t a hydraulic guillotein for cows

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any reason for the slit? I'd think a faster/painless death would be better for the quality of meat. Always thought the nerves and adrenaline of stress was bad for meat tenderness

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a requirement for the meat to be considered Kosher to some. It's called Shechita, I think.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And pretty much the same for halal.

Has to do with bleeding the animal fairly quickly, and in ancient terms, a relatively fast death. Before the practice, an animal might be clubbed to death, or otherwise wounded in a way that took much longer to die. Aside from the adrenaline spoiling, ruptured organs could ruin the meat, contaminating it with bile, gut content, feces, and more. Also emphasized the importance of eating things recently killed, not slowly sickened or found dead. We're way beyond using those means to get results now

In Australia the animal must get the brain bolt before their throat is slit. They must be brain-dead and unable to perceive pain. Still technically alive to it satisfies the religious requirement.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did you know that almost every animal has just enough brain to tan its own hide?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I guess that's the best you could ask for, for everyone involved. As I understand it, they still slit the bolted animals here, because they want to drain the carcass out for safer processing anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ditto. The animal still has to be bled. Just minus the prayer part.

I don't like to kill living beings.

Then… don’t? Going to be hard eating anything at all though…

Tell me you don't know anything about the subject without telling me you don't know anything about the subject.

You’re telling me that plants are not living?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've known a few home (not my home, a friend's) raised cattle I've eaten, by name. The ironically named Hungry tasted very good.

I named a pig bacon, then made him into bacon and ate him. He was delicious.

When we vacuum pack our portioned meat, I've taken to some fun labeling. Bovine Bits, Cow Chunks, Babe Bits, Porky Pieces, etc. It's the little things...

Amazing. I’d buy those.
