Was pondering it, but would be going from a non x3d to an x3d. Kinda want to save up for DDR5.

Would, if I had the cash to spare. It'd be a solid upgrade from my R5 1600(The current main bottleneck in my rig), and all I'd need to do is spend a few hours updating my BIOS before swapping it in.

Not only is the socket wrong for me, but if I remember reading my mobo specs, some of my pcie disables when using ryzen 7. Could be misremembering.

If the socket is wrong for you then this Ryzen 7 doesn't matter, that's only for Ryzen 7 of the type that uses your socket. Ryzen 7 is just "more than Ryzen 5 in this product release cycle", it tells you basically nothing about how it stacks up against other Ryzen 7s, older Ryzen 5s/9s, etc. It's frustratingly bad naming :(

Yeah. I remember reading somewhere that if I use *insert processor generations here* then some of my pcie slots get disabled .... but i have a ryzen 9 7900x already. So I dont know why I bothered with the first comment. Maybe just wanting attention. Beh.

That's honestly kind of a lot for a CPU from 2 generations ago, even a good one. B&H has the 7800X3D (1 generation old) for $389 right now, so I'd say that's definitely the better pick of the two. The newer 9800X3D is $445, a modest but significant increment and a good pick if it's within the budget.

If all you have is an AM4 rig and you cannot afford to upgrade to an am5 due to the prices of ram, motherboard...etc. This is not a bad upgrade to keep your current hardware running. It punches well above it's weight, and will run a 5080 no sweat, it may have some bottlenecking with a 5090 though (not a huge dip at 4K, but anything other and it's gonna struggle)

know a lad who's been suffering because they were just gearing up to finally replace their over a decade old rig, and then prices exploded so much anything they can afford would technically be a side-grade... cue their disappointment because their i7 3770K is showing it's age
