Tiger King is a joke we can laugh at. Children being abused and murdered makes people uncomfortable. They don't want to feel anything bad.
If the people allowed themselves to actually think about this then their fragile denial would come crashing down and they're realize we live

Without having seen either documentary, I feel sorry for Carole Baskin. People are having fun with her but she might be innocent.
The people answering seem to think that Netflix Documentaries are unbiases presentations of facts.
My understanding of this kind of TV is that the producers wind people up and film them in such a way that they look bad.
VeganFeministFlatEarther
Nah, none of them are innocent. They're all trashy people who have made very morally questionable decisions.
And definitely several illegal decisions as well

This documentary was hard to watch, but ultimately I’m really glad I did. I’m a CASA volunteer in my state. There are so many children
involved in the Foster Care system/DCF that are abused. Bringing awareness is so important especially now when the abused kids are stuck at
with their abusers. If you have extra time and patience consider becoming a CASA. It doesn’t require a lot of time. But you can make a
huge difference in the life of a child.

Taluien
And there's the reason why it isn't as "widely popular". Tiger King is a carwreck, but an amusing one. This one hits hard&doesn't entertain.
wonkydemateo
Yea. Like why is pizza so fattening. If healthy food tasted like pizza we wouldn't be so fat.
B4 any1 asks: amusing carwreck is something like a clowncar banging into a lamppost at 10km/h, 20 minutes of variations of "ow, my head".
Maybe thats why people are more worried about tiger king?
People are cowards.
Nobody is "worried" about Tiger king. The show as a a cluster fuck and entertaining because of the insanity in an unrelatable environment.

iwenttousersubandalligotwasthislousyusername
Unfortunately the foster care system is a target-rich environment for abusers. One of my elementary teachers fostered kids who came from
such shitty places that he said he would regularly have a storage box for them where they could keep non-perishable food because they had
become so accustomed to hoarding any food they could get their hands on due to abuse and neglect either in their biological parents' place

twatswatterphilosopher
But it sounds really heavy. Maybe people are going through a lot rn and just need entertainment. There are a lot of battles to fight 2/2
ArtOfKarolMichalec
Yeah I dont really jump on the tiger king bandwagon, seen him in theroux's doc, friends said its meh so gonna give it a miss
kmikl
This was one of the hardest things I've watched. I've seen abattoirs in operation and worked in forensics, for scope of reference.
chaos021
Man so many people are already on the edge because of having to deal with this virus. Watching something that heavy right now while/1
chaos021
/1 watching the DC shitshow is enough to make me homicidal and/or suicidal.
AmunKnowN
Yeah who would have thought that people are just looking for a distraction from the normal. Not to change the legal system.
kmikl
That it was just permitted to happen is an offense to human dignity, and putting that stuff on is just salt in the wound, but I get it. /1
kmikl
/2 No one wants to admit that these kinds of people exist and watch other bullshit to keep comfortably numb. I don't blame them.
AmunKnowN
I absolutely agree. A more fitting show would be the life of gabriel Fernandez. We shouldn't glorify the awfulness.
Ikingg
Upvoting l, since this justifies my lack of action on critical issue.
whoexactlyareyou
Samesiez, one day I'll take action on something. That day is not today but def upvoted. Slightly better than thoughts & prayers
StripTheFleshSaltTheWound
Yeah, I am about to cry just thinking about it. Focusing on child abuse destroys me. I couldn't hold my friend's children once after >>>
StripTheFleshSaltTheWound
>>> reading an especially heinous story of child abuse. I'm pretty sure it gave me PTSD symptoms. Couldn't be near little kids for months.
BhawbTheMagnificent
Everyone thinks their cause is the most important. Sorry, but I've got my plate full and don't need to spend every free second watching
BhawbTheMagnificent
heartwrenching documentaries. I've already got a few causes I fight for, and everyone needs time to take care of themselves too. 2/2
IndianaJonesNeglectedStudent
It is very heavy. I watched the whole series and started researching fostering and adopting after it was over. I don't want bio kids 1/2
IndianaJonesNeglectedStudent
But have considered foster and adoption. 2/2
blairsette
Amid Corona virus outbreak, mr. Trump talked to journalists to let them know that the dude got a harsh sentence and he’ll look into it
HellaPictureSeeing
You will feel hate if you watch it. I'm almost certain. If not at least disgust.
nonepizzawithIeftbeef
It is really, really heavy. Tiger King is literal entertainment to people, there was some low level hand wringing over animal treatment
nonepizzawithIeftbeef
But that’s about it. I was not entertained even once during the Gabriel doc, and my heart still bleeds for him and his siblings.
DownvoteAllYouWantImstillRight
This is why. and im sure it is heavy, i dont need that kind of dark realism infused in my mind right now. I have my own battles rn.
FractalChainsaw
Your username is extremely relevant.
PrincessNausicaa
Without having seen either documentary, I feel sorry for Carole Baskin. People are having fun with her but she might be innocent.
ElbowDeepinaTinyOctopus
The people answering seem to think that Netflix Documentaries are unbiases presentations of facts.
PrincessNausicaa
My understanding of this kind of TV is that the producers wind people up and film them in such a way that they look bad.
VeganFeministFlatEarther
Nah, none of them are innocent. They're all trashy people who have made very morally questionable decisions.
chaos021
And definitely several illegal decisions as well
gr33narrow
She's definitely not. Joe's a piece of shit too. hopefully they all rot.
VeganFeministFlatEarther
Don't forget Jeff Lowe, who was arrested in 07 for defrauding a domestic abuse charity, then on the show saying "I've never been arrested."
CatatonicCowMoo
We should fight the right ones though!
ApparentlyImaPsychopath
This documentary is hard to watch, so horribly sad
ImabouttogoTRexonthesenuggets
What platform is it on?
lvbr188888
Netflix i think
KillingTlme
Which is why people aren't watching it and making jokes and memes about it. Tiger King was a distraction from our normal shitty lives.
PeteButtigieg
I couldn’t watch more than 20 minutes of it, absolutely heart breaking.
rainbear00
Same ?
LegendMasterX
Yeah, part of the reason people are talking/meming about tiger king so much is that its a full entertaining/crazy people. It would be hard/
LegendMasterX
to meme or bring up this topic on social media
tinamakingmecray
This documentary ripped me apart.i was so pissed after watching it I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was angry with EVERYONE.poor baby
Blanketstealer
This documentary was hard to watch, but ultimately I’m really glad I did. I’m a CASA volunteer in my state. There are so many children
Blanketstealer
involved in the Foster Care system/DCF that are abused. Bringing awareness is so important especially now when the abused kids are stuck at
Blanketstealer
with their abusers. If you have extra time and patience consider becoming a CASA. It doesn’t require a lot of time. But you can make a
Blanketstealer
huge difference in the life of a child.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I wish I had extra time for this. My two kids are still 3 and 6, I just can't take on something new right now. But by the time they're /1
bunnyinthemoon
Whats it called?
Yallreadytolearn
The trials of Gabriel Fernandez. It's on Netflix.
illogicalphallusies
and Tiger King was a Rollercoatster to watch, which is why it is more popular
vapology
My heart goes out to this little boy. I cannot fathom to understand how a child can be treated that way... Can we send them to Guantanamo?
IDidntDoIt
My husband was a CPS worker. Couldn't do it anymore because of how bad the system was and kids being returned to bad situations
angryasian
Watched the trailer and a part of an episode with my wife. I couldn't get through the whole episode. Forget sitting through the whole series
HappyShark
I cried during the first 15 min at just the thought of what this kid went through
VictoryWine
I couldn't get past the 6th episode and I hear it just gets progressively worse. I'm at a loss for words over it still
RachaelDanger
Hadn't heard of it before this post. I'm only 7 minutes in and a weepy fucking mess.
nevertrustawetfart
Yeah, I couldn't watch it.
comehomefransbrauder
I couldn't make it past the nurse in the beginning before I was in tears.
spookyactionatadistance
I watched it with my SO couple weeks ago. It stays with you. Even just remembering it now gives me a heavy heart.
Bandidodesandwich
That's exactly why people (me included) don't see this documentaries.
YesYouJustLostTheGameAgain
I honestly made it 30 min in... I can’t willingly watch that kinda thing. What is wrong with people?
crazyplantladee
It was a boomerang of emotions. Either very sad and crying. To outright angry and pissed off. One or the other.
Taluien
B4 any1 asks: amusing carwreck is something like a clowncar banging into a lamppost at 10km/h, 20 minutes of variations of "ow, my head".
Bandidodesandwich
Maybe thats why people are more worried about tiger king?
kmikl
People are cowards.
KillingTlme
Nobody is "worried" about Tiger king. The show as a a cluster fuck and entertaining because of the insanity in an unrelatable environment.
GrammarAndPunctuationNazi
Reminded me of "Dear Zachary". It stayed with me for a long time. People are terrible :(
icouldbeahotmess
Dear Zachary messed me up. I couldn’t stop crying. For days after even.
FvcktangularBondulance
Don't bring that up. The only movie ever to punch me in the gut so hard I felt like I was receiving the news about someone I knew.
andychristman2000
Holy shit dear Zachary was brutal. I thought I was somewhat immune to most tragedies but that shit still haunts me......
PresidentOfMexico
My wife is a child therapist and has had to call the police several times on foster parents and get them moved again,it’s terribly sad,we 1/
teamDaenerysforever
As a person who was in 3 foster homes thank your wife for me it probably means alot to the kids I wish someone did that for me
PresidentOfMexico
Try and get them little things to make them feel a little special, some of these kids just have trash bags with cloths they take with them:(
Taxicat
Would those Ziploc vacuum-seal bags be a helpful item, perhaps to donate? They could carry more stuff in safer packaging, 1/
Taxicat
and it wouldn’t leave any of that distinctive trash bag smell. Or is it possible to donate a storage unit? 2/
TheOneAndOnlyButtStabber
Why do people want to foster kids and abuse them? Does the system pay these people or get some sort of tax benefit?
LateNightBunnyParty
When each of my foster kids came to live with us, that's all they had. Garbage bags and paper grocery sacks. :(
iwenttousersubandalligotwasthislousyusername
Unfortunately the foster care system is a target-rich environment for abusers. One of my elementary teachers fostered kids who came from
iwenttousersubandalligotwasthislousyusername
such shitty places that he said he would regularly have a storage box for them where they could keep non-perishable food because they had
iwenttousersubandalligotwasthislousyusername
become so accustomed to hoarding any food they could get their hands on due to abuse and neglect either in their biological parents' place
