I dated a woman who worked at a high level of a major University. She had a Masters Degree. She insisted on setting the alarm clock 15 minutes fast so she would wake up earlier.
A trick new baby-mommas learn is just this. Except smaller steps. Set it so that u just get the 'restful' part f sleep and have yourself wake before u drop into REM, and u can get more rest than u can with a full 8hr sleep. Set alarm to go off every 30min or so, and (assuming u the kind who can nod off after 10min) will find after 3-4 hrs u feel fully rested (and during the 'waking breaks' u can do other stuff, ie, go feed the baby, etc)
I did this as well, it helped with my insomnia. If I was sleeping like crap I usually slept amazing after that first alarm. At least I get a few hours rem/deep sleep.
I used to do this. Mainly when I was really depressed and hated going to work. I would set an alarm maybe 3 hours after I went to bed then another 2 after that to wake up to the feeling of having more sleep to go.
Eh. i used to do this when i was an Apprentice chef. You cant fkn beat waking up and learning that you do infact have hours more left you can use for sleep. Change my mind!
Yeah, I done this so long I don't even need the alarm anymore. Wake up around midnight just long enough to check my watch, be a little happy, then right back to sleep.
I wake up naturally every 2-3 hours or so. On a normal night I'll be fully awake probably 3-4 times. Had to throw away my smartwatch as it just made me nervous. I've been like this for as long as I can remember, so I don't need it to tell me that something is wrong. But I do get a happy-buzz whenever I see that I still have plenty of sleep left hahahah.
I usually try to get up 2.5-3 hours before I need to leave for work, it was my way of dealing with how much I hate getting up, getting ready and then going to work.
Being able to take a shower, get some breakfast, getting everything ready and then knowing I have at least 2 hours before I am out the door has vastly improved how I think about work-mornings.
Those 2+ hours gives me ample time to do something I really enjoy without feeling stressed about when to leave. Works well for me at least.
I as near as guaranteed wake up about 5 minutes before my alarm, but figure having the alarm is still good just in case.
Though I also get up between 2.5 and 3 hours before I need to leave for work because I am NOT a happy person in the morning and it gives me time to get completely ready and then I can do something fun for about 2 hours before I leave for work.
Might not work for everyone, but for me it has vastly improved my mood for the rest of the day.
I never understood how people have multiple alarms. I set one and it's set for the latest I can sleep before I have to get up. No snooze. Get all the sleep in one lump sum.
When I was depressed and hated my job, the feeling of putting my head down and waking up to get straight back into it was unbearable, so I used to set multiple alarms through the night just to avoid that feeling
My anxiety is so bad that even though I set my alarm, it's never actually gone off. Being startled awake stresses me out so much that my brain will wake me up a few minutes before the alarm goes off just to avoid it
Are you me? That is legit my issue. Also, on top of that, if it is morning when I have to get up, I have all the anxiety, which starts a week in advance, and that morning I'll get ill. I hate mornings. I'm sorry you have that much anxiety to deal with. Nobody should have to suffer like that.
Sleep cycle. My phone's alarm gives up after about 5 min. If i'm in a deep enough part of my sleep cycle i'll sleep through it. So sometimes my wakeup is a little earlier, sometimes a little later, whenever the light part of my sleep is
That works until your body decides it's only going to wake up when it's in the right part of the sleep cycle. I need several alarms to be sure I will actually wake from one of them. Plus I have set a time that is kinda too late, to work as a backup, in case I drowsily disable the alarm and don't get up quickly enough, and fall asleep again.
I have to wake up three hours before work, so I can mentally prepare myself for the day ahead (cry that I have to be at a bullshit dead-end job again or I get evicted, become homeless in a frozen fucking wasteland and starve to death)
I need 10 minutes to journal, if I remember my dream, and then 30 to lay in bed and think about how everything sucks, then 10 more to remind myself of all the things Im grateful for, then 15 minutes to listen to some music, 12 of those are spent trying to find the perfect song. By that time I have just enough left to speed run through my shower routine, run out the door, remember I forgot to take my meds, come back out and remember I forgot something else, w just enough time left to be 15m late
Well I am pretty old now. The last two times I tried to set an alarm for my phone, it didn't work. I didn't have my smart watch on either. I was pissed. I went back a normal adult watch.

I’ve done this. In high school. I loved the experience of falling asleep.

It doesn’t hit the same way when you wake yourself up. Rolling over to see your clock say 2:30 when you think it’s 6:00 is awesome

My bladder is my alarm and I have to say that when it's 3 I am excited about how much time I have

Waking up and realizing you have to go into wage slavery immediately is probably part of it.

I set the time on my clock ahead 42 mins. I can't do match that early so tend not to hit snooze.

Psycho. That can't be good for your sleep cycle.

I wake up at 3am without an alarm because I don’t sleep well. I am not excited that I wake up in the middle of the night.

I got like one hour of sleep this night :'(

Yeah it is for people who can go back to sleep easily for sure

If I set the alarm I would expect it. 0600 today... my alarm is 0630... fuck me.

We did that when I was conscript sometimes. It was amazing to get an extra hour!

I had a friend who had a 2am alarm that literally shook his bed back and forth. It was to take insulin

I have a cat. No need for a 3am alarm

"You should wake up now" - "You really NEED to wake up NOW!" and "Great job fuckwit you're late!"

I used to have one that said. "Bitch, it's time to get yo ass out of bed"

Zero alarms.. No schedule. I try not to fail getting to an appointment.

I get up at 4 on Mondays and I agree, waking up just to think about sleeping more is truly unhinged.

I've gotten a lot more okay with my 2am wakeups since reading about medieval sleeping habits:
