paper is rich in fibre...i guess...and yeah, elephants eat tons of food each day and are rather bad at properly digesting all that plant matter, so those stickers will go right through anyways...way more of an issue for the dung beetles afterwards...
Having fed elephants bananas in Thailand, while standing in a pond, they are very happy to eat them one at a time with the peels on, however, if they drop on the ground and get the speck of dirt on them, they will carefully peel them and eat them without the peels.
Because bananas are a huge part of their diet and because the peels are non-digestible, when they poop it looks exactly like banana peels.
The stickers are not intended to be edible. They are not specifically harmful, but not by design. You can eat small amounts of a lot of different things not intended for consumption.
Some of them, sure. But most aren't biodegradable, so don't put them in your compost or biowaste bin! I think this calls for some EU regulation, honestly.
I doubt that a Hungarian elephant park is buying bananas ‘in America’ but I’d bet that most banana packing houses the world over only apply stickers that meet FDA standards.

I can’t believe you let him eat those stickers. Did you even wash them for him?

Seems fair
zHurk777
Idiot didn't remove the adhesive labels.
zHurk777
and I guarantee you they are Not biodegradeable. The labels that inadvertently end up in my compost heap do not disintegrate.
snowwhyyt
+1 for original sound and no soundtrack. +2 for content. +3 for the elephant. I have to go out and buy some extra + now.
thedill2000
Could have at least taken the stickers off. And yes I know, they're edible
But still.
timGiraffeBeast
Are you sure that's not a hippo? It seems pretty hungry hungry.

He ate the fucking labels.
zHurk777
The guy is an idiot.... for not removing them.
r0b0tc0rpse
Agreed. You think they're food grade?

"Yes, they're all mine, even that one"
Swiggy1957
This is like taking your girlfriend to dinner and she orders a small salad . . . then proceeds to eat everything on your plate.

peridotstar
Nah you're right---that's exactly what it looks like. My best guess is that she was playing with some.
ukalliq
I've seen videos of elephants deliberately putting dirt, grass, twigs, etc. on their backs. No idea why.

Don't worry about the stickers. They're nontoxic.

I didn't say they were biodegradable. I said they were nontoxic.

Obviously it's not a problem but I'm still uncomfortable with the elephant eating the stickers.

I can't see any stickers.

One of them ate a hat once and just came back out the other end the guy washed it and started using it again. Old Tilly's Endurables Commercial

Once I read that they also like to eat whole pineapples even with the pointy leaves, and that's crazy to me because it seems unsafe lol
LinemanMatt
Clearly it should be putting the sticker on it's forehead.

IIRC most stickers put on fruit is made from non toxic paper/adhesive and is perfectly safe to eat although it’s not recommended

was thinking the same, lol. in reality, the pesticides on the scales are probably much worse though.
Maviyakuku
They are called peels. Banana peels.
TheBunnyPants
If those bananas are bought in America, by law the glue and paper of those stickers are required to be edible.
