When I was a kid, I had a purple laser pointer I got from Radioshack, and I figured out that I could lay in bed and shine it on individual stars on my ceiling to get them to glow. It only charged the specific spot that the laser hit, so the larger ones needed a few passes, though.
these always make me laugh. my dad who had no mental issues, had his bedroom ceiling covered in these glow in the dark stars. He put them up when he was in his 50's
Nice, this keeps the monsters under the beds at bay. For a couple hours anyway. Then they inevitably emerge from their under-bed crypts, and feast on the young. G'night!
He's 16 now, but we did that for the Lil' Ones bedroom when he was still a little one. Good memories. When some them eventually fall off, make a big deal about lifting the kiddo up and having them stick it back to ceiling. I'd do rocket noises and Mom was Mission Control. More good memories. Have fun!
Same here, though not with the lifting part. My back couldn't stand that. Still, most of those stars are still up there! We had some come down one wall, too, though those all got pulled off by his cat soon after going on. Goofy little void brat.
When I moved it to go to uni, I took my glow in the dark stars with me. And then I took them to my first apartment. I couldn't find them after the third move. They must be in a box somewhere.
Mine too plus a 13 year old. I would always "charge" their stars at night, especially for the younger one who was in the bottom bunk cause his were on the bottom of the top bunk and got no light. When they split rooms, the youngest left the ceiling ones up until they eventually fell off one by one. I hope they'll remember those times fondly some day.
My youngest is 19 now. But for all three of my kids, I painted their ceilings sky blue with white puffy clouds. Then took a star projector and painted the star map as it appeared at the time of their births with a glow in the dark paint. They still talk about it even so many years later.
When my daughter was born I used an overhead projector and a transparency to paint the giving tree on the wall in her room. I cry every time I read the book because I'd do anything for my kids and recognize the sacrifice my parents made. In my adult years though I've also come to understand the negative view of the book and how the boy took advantage, but still I hold it close knowing that it has different meaning to me as a parent.
I know the book well. But if the boy didn't take what the tree gave him, the tree would not have been able to achieve its purpose and feel the satisfaction in the end.
I did this once but 'back set' some tiny led black light strips (i hid them under a white vinyl strip) aimed along the ceiling, and they would stay lit (the black light even though just led's though, really did heat the room up so was only feasible in winter, like almost 10 full degrees) - Also only the stickers closest to the led lit up well, but even the ones on far side of room did catch SOME of it.
Its poetic. Its a good lesson for the kids to know nothing is permanent. Just asthose stars will dim and go out, one day their dad wont be available to "light "those stars.
My bedroom has blacklight mode. Posters, stars, displays. Even painted the ceiling in the closet with florescent paint so the whole thing had an intense glow! I was at my rave phase!
Same here. I had 32.5 degrees Celsius in my house for an extended time. Skipped work because I had to keep my front door open and ventilators running to keep my dog alive. It's going to get even worse next year. :( I'm buying sun-reflecting foil for my windows.
It's a bird, it's a plane, it's SUPER EL NIÑO. After all who doesn't enjoy an ocean piled high with excess heat equal to 47 YEARS of global human energy usage.
Yeah, I saw that report too. Absolutely insane, and it's clear that it's going to be even worse next year. It's just going to spiral from now on. I'm glad I don't have kids, but my heart bleeds for the young ones, as well as the animal world.

My dad would then wait an hour then dress up as an alien and start tapping on the window

That smile of absolute joy because he was able to do something wonderful for the children is a treasure.

I painted the constellations over head at the date and time of my childs birth.. it's been over twenty years but the stars still glow.

I used to have these where my bedroom ceiling had rafters and it made them look 3D. Great effect. ✨

I did that for my bedroom in the early 70's with glow in the dark paint. My sister professional artist painted a Unicorn mermaid with it.

Those stars aren't cosmologically accurate. I bet none of them reach 10,000 °F. Bad job, dad.
