I grew up dirt poor with a mentally ill mother and mostly-absent father. If I hadn't eaten in school there would have been days I didn't eat at all. Food stamps, free school lunches, good blue state public schools, housing aid, CHIP, etc., gave me the health and stability I needed to flourish. Now I'm an attorney. Fuck anyone who wants kids to be hungry.
