They won't listen. They'll say it's fake news, or the deep state is working against him, or some other asinine reason. They won't tolerate any defamation against their lord and savior.
I think the same thing. Trump could light one of them on fire on live tv and they'd still blame the democrats for it. Or not believe it happened. Or justify it somehow.
And it will take decades to fix all the damage. But a couple years in, people will forget all the pain and suffering, and vote to make things worse again. Repeat, ad nauseam.
They won't even acknowledge that things are bad though. They'll justify it all until the fires finally reaches their homes... which they'll still try to blame "the dems" for.
i can't even be mad. i've resigned myself that all these people are just zombies. no brains. NOW, i just want the world to burn so they can all start crying, while i laugh my ass off
Again, don't be so bleak. There's a thing called Republicans against Trump. The bad news is first Trump will have to make a mess to trigger some reaction.
What did these Republicans against Trump do the last time he was impeached? I'm not being bleak, I'm being honest. I don't think his policies will bring about a total fascist state in the US (no more than any other point in US history that is), though the want to purge generals is troubling, but I do think his fiscal policy will bring us into another depression. The precursors to the GD were tariffs and isolationism. And more worrisome, the way out of the GD was a world war that decimated
Me reading the news today about the Muslim communities that helped Trump win Michigan and probably played a key role in his other swing state victories as well express how "dissapointed they are" in the choices he's made for his cabinet picks:
Good trolling is an art form. Stringing someone along by being just slightly obtuse about things for a long time, like a "Who's on First" bit with the other person unaware. But MAGA folk simply aren't smart enough to do it properly.
There is an astonishing amount of “find out” that is going to happen on the part of every voter (of every gender and preference) who isn’t a crony or in the top 5% who thought this was going to benefit them. That was the PR campaign. Also, not factually or historically how patriarchy, misogyny, or fascism works.
The last few fucks I had left to care about people were gone on 11/7 morning. I kind of want everything to be shit now so people really suffer and really see the destruction they created. I really don't care what happens to all the idiots who voted for him. I'm gonna try to take advantage of things for my own gain and not care about anyone else. Everyone's on their own now I guess
Sadly, I don't see a clear path for this to get back on track. The history of authoritarian regimes being successfully overthrown from within and yielding pluralistic, liberal democratic outcomes is not encouraging. Once the US collapses the strongest remaining militaries sure aren't coming to liberate us. We're in for centuries of humanity reorganizing out of the tropics and lower elevation temperate zones and pre-industrial population densities in the habitable zones.
*and* they need to actually do something with it and then crow crow crow about it so Republicans can't try and take credit (or discredit the dems.) The DNC has been the conservative center right party here in america for most of my life, and they're getting clobbered by the fascist right-wing propaganda machine.
Which would easily happen if people would get off their lazy, apathetic asses and fucking vote. Also, fuck any single-issue voter; the world is more complicated than that.
As a European, seeing the level of power and influence a Supreme Court judge wields… and then seeing the small army that guards the president at all times… makes me wonder why more folks haven’t tried to assassinate Supreme Court judges. I’ve never heard of that even discussed but it seems like it would have an absolutely huge impact on the fabric of society, but they don’t even seem to have permanent security staff which is just crazy. .
Only because the Dems probably won't control all 3 levels again. If they ever do, they have to go nuclear and expand the court. Which probably won't even do any good 'cause Trump will pack the court with 3 more 50 y/o assholes.
Yep, esp if they abandon the Rule of Law and we move to a Rule of Rules... where we are run not by some codified set of rules, but by an unspoken set of rules... we would become like Russia where everyone is terrified of even speaking about the atrocities being committed for fear of being disappeared into one of the many internment camps;
Only IF we have midterms, and IF the idiots that almost ALWAYS IGNORE fuckin' midterms vote, as the ONLY reason why the presidential election is worth it is because that's when you initially vote in congress…
Otherwise, FUCK the presidential fuckin' elections as it distracts from the local/state/midterm elections…
Remember that time Howard Dean wanted the DNC to run everywhere all the time with a fifty state strategy and then he let out the Dean Scream and the fucking Clintons torpedoed him via the DNC?
Sorry, but I was actually venting a bit, as I tire of voters ignoring the most important elections in favour of the presidency, besides, we don't need single assholes to "lead" the nation, no, we need an egalitarian non-partisan committee much like parliament but without the parties...
Partisanship is why the DNC needs an overhaul, as it was a grave mistake to ever have separate and diametrically opposed parties representing this nation, it's a failure as it divides a nation with itself!
Republicans are typically the gun owners. Yes some gems and I dependants own as well. But largely that's the Republicans. Who are now leading the country that maintain stockpiles of arms to supply small militias.
That said. Even if dems and dependants did. Small arms against government is fucking retarded. They have tanks and drones. They dont need to see you to kill you.
Firearms in the states are for hunters and dumbasses... and some dumbass hunters.
The irony is, I'm childfree and just wealthy enough I'll survive the destruction. Most of those neighbors of mine that didn't vote blue will be suffering, and I'm too tired and sad from the last eight years to care enough to keep trying to help locally.
Oh that's cute. Naive, asinine and absurd, but perversely cute. The human race is at minutes to midnight you dumb cretin. We've got a few months and a short, uncertain amount of time beyond that. All global world conflicts will intensify. Bigoted, conservative fascists and Natzis will feel validated and emboldened as their morally bankrupt excuse for politics win sway country by country. Every economy everywhere will get worse. WW3, nukes or just dystopia. You won't somehow be safe.
ditto. I'm not doing so bad. Wife and I both work good jobs. Working on paying off our student loans. Rent is high, and we live in a red state. So, we're just making plans to move out. I vote democratic not b/c of what I directly get out of it, but what I indirectly get out of it.. and that's to live in a well-educated society where everyone feels like their needs are met and we can spend more time innovating cool new stuff instead of pissing our lives away just trying to survive.
My parents voted Trump. They are just about to start receiving social security... or were... I am not in a position to help them financially should they need it.
I ride motorcycles. My #1 rule about motorcycles is larger object has the right of way. A capitalist society always has a homeless group, b/c someone is always priced 1/
out of the market as companies try to maximize profit while minimizing costs. It's more profitable to not lower costs and let everyone have some than it is to raise prices and cut some folks out. So, as necessities become for-profit, and they raise prices, you gotta pivot. Join groups that barter and trade. Go dumpster diving. Organize unions and marches. Find like-minded folks that you can couch-surf./
Unfortunately, an unrestrained federal government run by an unhinged mafia can exert a lot of pressure and force on individual states. Short of.... a coup by any military leaders who take their oath seriously, or sweeping and widespread collective action like a general strike to grind the incoming fascist regime to a goddamn halt, or some Republican Senators abruptly growing a spine and blocking his extreme nominees...... I'm finding it hard to find any good ways through this. (Which isn't to
say that the things I suggested are necessarily good or viable ideas. General strike would be nice, but I don't know if enough of America has the know-how, solidarity, dedication, emergency funds, or coordination for that sort of thing.)
I live one state over (IN). Right now i'm just hoping that republicans having such a tiny lead in house will block a lot of the worst bullshit. Not sure if the next 4 years will pass like a stomach ache, food poisoning, or a kidney stone.
Same (MD) but dangerously close to DC. I am, however, actively saving every penny, erasing all debt and going cash free because I think they're going to shit on everything, make as much $$ as possible and running away after they wreck everything. Somewhat similar to 2008. I lost everything back then. I'm not doing that again.
Yeah, I didn't think he was... I expect him to sue the living shit out of the Federal gov't and to refuse to voluntarily comply with his illegal commands and instructions.
I expect him to order IL law enforcement to follow and enforce IL law only, as they are legally required to do... there is no requirement that any local law enforcement officer enforce Federal law... they have no jurisdiction to do so anyway.
When the feds come to drag people to concentration camps, lawsuits and non cooperation will not be sufficient. At some point, you're going to have to deal with convoys coming in and out of the federal building.
"just wealthy enough" could rapidly change in a trade war and who knows what other calamitous shit will result in higher cost of living, interest rates, and who knows what.
Yeah I'm thinking major supply chain disruptions, especially if he goes all-in with the concentration camps and deportations. Other countries surely love the profitability of regular trade, but...at some point they might decide that we are too much of a hassle to deal with. Or they'd sanction us for human rights violations. What a time to be alive. Well played, Putin.
Yeah, hoard those pieces of paper that are backed by the US government. No historical precedent for money becoming essentially worthless due to hyperinflation after a society imploded.
Exactly. I'm in the same boat as comment OP. I actually think the stock market will go bonkers for about 24-36 months due to tax shenanigans, etc. Assuming ww3 hasn't happened. But the piper needs to be paid at some point and it'll be 2008 at best. Already trying to figure out a way to keep my retirement funds from evaporating.
If you think of a good strategy, please share. I'm thinking foreign bonds might be the safest thing. But I think even having accounts with a U.S. investment company is a risk. It seems really, really hard to mitigate this kind of risk without an absolute shit-ton of money.
especially since dictators like to persecute political disadents and the easiest way to do that is to freeze their assets. I'm not leaving my money in US accounts
