Sadly, I don't see a clear path for this to get back on track. The history of authoritarian regimes being successfully overthrown from within and yielding pluralistic, liberal democratic outcomes is not encouraging. Once the US collapses the strongest remaining militaries sure aren't coming to liberate us. We're in for centuries of humanity reorganizing out of the tropics and lower elevation temperate zones and pre-industrial population densities in the habitable zones.

As a European, seeing the level of power and influence a Supreme Court judge wields… and then seeing the small army that guards the president at all times… makes me wonder why more folks haven’t tried to assassinate Supreme Court judges. I’ve never heard of that even discussed but it seems like it would have an absolutely huge impact on the fabric of society, but they don’t even seem to have permanent security staff which is just crazy. .

I actually originally moved abroad in early 2009 because of the collapse. It ripples, surely, but things were far better in many places for me personally. Obviously there are tons of variables, but leaving the country then was the best decision I've ever made in my life.
