Question for the Europeans who drive frequently, what do you budget a week for fuel? With the latest price increases in mind, I now plan about $120 a week for gas.
Admittedly, I have a roughly 90 mile round trip commute for work, and I drive a 21 year old car, so I'm by no means an efficient example.

Other dictators usually only ruin their own country. You elect this asshole and half the world suffers for it. Not ok. The oil companies raised prices way beyond the actual oil price, though. They're making record profits once again. Still, I only have to pay more for gas, in other countries people die from preventable diseases or starve because so much aid was cut.

When you don't have far to drive and only have to fill your tank up about once a month then sure, gas prices going up doesn't effect you that much. When you have an hour long commute because that's the only job you could find that pays a livable wage but can't afford to move closer to your job, it can make a huge difference.

Now look at how many kilometers are driven per capita. In the US its usually 15000 km per capita per year. The only eu countries that are relatively close are luxembourg and iceland. Most average about half what the us does. Even before the recent increase we already spent a larger chunk of our income on gas than any other country, besides canada. Almost like ripping out every non-car alternative has drawbacks or something

The US is very big and purposely designed to be car centric in local areas. We have no choice but to use gas to do anything. Electric cars are having a moment, but every vehicle they sell is a gas guzzler otherwise. We are a captive automobile audience.

It is volatile. Since the orange war begun I was tanking for 1.8 and I did for 2.2, new price every day.
But yeah, the "high" prices americans are braggin, I mean complaining about, I have not seen gas that cheap since Covid time. And before that it was 2016 when Iran got their export ban lifted. And before that, pretty much last century.

I see you're misunderstanding how fuel prices work. They go up immediately when oil prices rise (even through the fuel you buy today was made from oil purchased a month or more ago), and go down when the fuel companies realise they can't milk the high oil prices anymore. Or a week after that.

It is kinda funny that Europeans drive less than the average american while also driving more fuel efficient cars, like since the americans moan so much youd think they would trade their battleship sized trucks for something less thirsty.

Also, cars are decently sized. I am always flabbergasted by the urge of some Americans to want to drive around with something the size of the Bismarck. But then, fascists will fascist.

Well, when a single state is larger than most EU countries, you tend to expend more gas. Can we do better? Absolutely, and we should. At least I'm seeing more and more semi-EV and full EV's on the road. Unfortunately, I see quite a few 'pavement princesses' as well...

It's actually funny how this happened, there was a tax introduced for cars that produced too much C02 - however, there was a loophole where the larger cars were technically classified as something different and didn't get hot with the tax, so car companies pushed those types of vehicles.. and that's why the US has so many of them
