Welp...this sucks

May 16, 2024 5:29 PM

UPDATE: Holy shit guys! I never imagined that this would've gone viral! I truly appreciate the support and the comments. I've been trying to get to all the comments and either upvote and/or comment on them. Definitely PC games, going to the gym, and masturbating were popular choices for advices. I'll definitely try some of the other suggestions you provided like taking up Warhammer, walking and pooping at the same time, and doing kinky shit. Love you guys!

Do some traveling

I have a couple of trips planned. Baseball is a good reason to travel

Take long walks, catch up with friends, buy Lego, pick up embroidery, watercolours, weightlifting or any other hobby, and if you ever feel like crying, cry, but don't forget that this too shall pass. Above all, try not to idealize the past. You didn't lose something perfect, it ended precisely because it was far from it.

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I'll probably take up working out, try to catch up with friends as much as possible (after 5 years, they're all like responsible parents), I've bought a bunch of Lego sets, and get back to my photography hobby

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had forgotten how social I was before I started dating. I only hung out with her for 4 years. I missed so many good friendships, however it does feel nice to reconnect with an old friend.

Don't start any expensive hobbies. Don't consume any potentially addicting substances. Don't get caught up in an arrestable pornado. Don't fall in love right away. Don't take back your ex.
Chill for a while. Fuck if you can. Play games with strangers online. Find a new job befriend your old coworkers. Smile it'll become real.
Good luck.

All solid advice. I appreciate it!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It will take time to adjust. Both in daily life and emotionally. Take it slow and try to ignore the need to reach out for affection elsewhere to fill the gap. Each day will get easier, though there may be instances of sadness along the way depending on how deep the relationship was. Try to keep yourself occupied, and when you think of the relationship and the break up. Think of that conclusion as the beginning of something better ahead. I wish you all the best. :)

All solid advice. The difference between me single 5 years ago and me single now is that things I used to do, I can't really do anymore. Friends got older with kids so we can't really drunk anymore. I gotta start over and figure out what to do with my time

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Try different things that interest you. Even if it's not something you'd do long term. Trying in the first place is keeping your mind occupied and could lead to something significant in the future. :)

Are you actively, or have you worked as a therapist? This is textbook in short comment form. Chapeau!

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Nope. I've just been around enough people in similar situations to see what they go through. How they handled it and how it affected them. Most handle such things in varied ways. Make mistakes through the process and either learn from them or repeat them. I don't like to see anyone suffer, so if just a few words can make them feel better or help them in any way, I offer what I can. Stranger or not. :)

I personally went out and acquired vinyl record collection addiction.

I've been doing kinda that with Lego sets

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Get involved with a charity you care about. Helping other people (or animals) will fill your time & thoughts and, ideally, leave you feeling good about accomplishing something. And, if you tend to withdraw from life when you're feeling untethered, this gives you a form of accountability. You NEED to go help today because you said you'd be there. Structure and social engagement.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not a bad idea. I think I just need to keep myself busy and not dwell on what happened

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do all the stuff you love too do that she used to bitch about

2 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 11

This should be the top comment.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Why is this so familiar...

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Y’all be having mildly toxic relationships. My wife doesn’t bitch about any of my hobbies and I don’t bitch about any of hers

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

Yep

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s not always toxicity. A friend abstained from peanut butter because her bf was allergic, even though she loved it. When they broke up, she binged on it. (But also yeah, lotta toxic relationships out there.)

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Somehow, I don’t think the original comment was about peanut butter.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If peanut butter is someone's hobby, I am not going to judge them for it.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I thought the exact same thing when I saw this comment. Those aren't great relationships. People need their hobbies. Your partner shouldn't be "bitching about" things, unless it's stuff like not pulling your own weight, or getting drunk all the time, or similar things that are actual difficulties that you are forcing them to deal with. If you need time to yourself to enjoy hobbies, and they need time spent with you, then you have to talk and compromise. And if one of you can't get their needs /1

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

met, then you may not be a match. I'm an introvert married to an introvert and it's perfect, we each have tons of alone time. My best friend is an extrovert married to an extrovert, and they don't *want* alone time, lol. When you mix the two, you both have to compromise, or else it won't work. /2

Work on yourself. Find a hobby, work out, bike, learn a jew skill, etc... Nightly diary of self reflection helps. Find out why you guys ultimately broke up and if needed, make yourself a better partner. A healthy person is someone who keeps growing.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I'll explore more of this jew skill you're talking about...lol. But I am going to take this opportunity to be a better bf for some other girl that's out there for me eventually. Hopefully out there for me. Fingers crossed.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A jew skill lol

read that as "nightly dairy of self reflection" and thought "omg, we're offering 'stand in front of the fridge eating cheese at night' as emotional support advice now. Not bad."

Find yourself, eat strange food, go to new places, try new outfits, do kinky shit, learn a sport, become a card shark, whore yourself on onlyfans, become a deviant, try butt stuff, read a book, start running to do a marathon, get really into tea or coffee, learn warhammer, get into mountain biking, do a water thing somewhere (boats?), lots of options.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you considered destroying your wallet and taking up Warhammer?

2 years ago | Likes 683 Dislikes 4

Frebasing crack cocaine would be cheaper

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you a professional in your 30's with time and money? If so, talk with your local bike shop and find out if triathlon is right for you.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I am in my 30s with time and money but I am way too fat and lazy for a triathlon. What am I, in my 20s?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those in their 20s have time, but not money. In the 40s, money but not time. Your 30s are the sweet spot. I've never seen someone capable of holding on to fat while throwing themselves into triathlon. You don't need to lose weight. The weight takes care of itself.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always upvote Warhammer.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pickup a 3d printer and pirate the prints! Not strictly cheaper, but more fun (and you can get dirty looks at your local game store!)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or you could build a 3d printer and have no spare time left because you're building lots of 3d printers...

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or a Nintendo switch

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Gf took it with her...cause it was hers. I have my PS5 and PC though!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've done MTG, I play video games, and have friends with Warhammer. Video games are by far the cheapest of these, as far as I've seen.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But Nintendo is the most expensive video game company, no sales

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess I don't buy that many games for Switch, so it seems cheap. The really good ones are $60, but Zelda or Metroid or even Pokémon games are worth several other games in how much time I can spend in them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

C'mon, $40 is a fair price when Nintendo brand games go on sale. There's always games on sale in their eShop. I'm close to filling 2TB's on my memory card with games I bought when they went on sale!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or cocaine. Which is actually cheaper

2 years ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 5

The fucked up part of this is the fact your not wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I mean. It really depends on how much cocaine you can do before your heart explodes.

But it's only 4,830 USD (2,415 USD/ EA.) for 2 Mantas! My heart can handle anything >:} /S/J

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or Magic the Gathering.

I've never done Magic or D&D or Warhammer :(

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See above comment about cocaine.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can't lie to yourself and say you'll sell the cocaine one day when you're done though

That's why you exclusively play commander!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Taps 2 blue for counterspell

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My 18 decks say cocaine would be cheaper.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well I never said you wouldn't have an addiction to it....but the format stays stable much longer than standard! And there's at least a lot of overlap in good general cards between decks.
