This switch plate is fine. What isn’t fine, is the fact that the item in the next picture won’t fit on it.
Every single switch plate in my house looks like the one in the first photo.

You can swap the switch out. It's really simple.

Do an old style toggle dimmer switch. Then it can be in multiple positions.
