Aaron Siri wants the FDA to revoke the polio vaccine. My dad had polio. He didn't have the worst outcome. But 50% nerve degeneration in your leg, then decades later was diagnosed with post-polio syndrome where he lost 50% in the other leg along with experiencing such pain that no opiate could subdue.

He had friends who had the iron lung, and one who wore legs braces for the rest of his life.

Elections have consequences.

May Mr. Siri watch his offspring sit in an iron lung...

Write your Representatives now to oppose RFK's nomination. Siri is his legal advisor.

Not all of us want to die young like the Kennedys

If government-funded vaxes are eliminated, all that'll be left would be private, for-profit vax dispensers. Expensive, profitable ones.

There's no way to spin it either. It's just prepare for pestilence and plague

"Write your Representatives now to oppose RFK's nomination."

If playing the political game fixed anything, your country wouldn't be in the shit shape it's in. Stop playing by the rules they set. Just "remove" them.

I have a better plan. Given that a) there is no natural reservoir other than humans: b) we have a safe and effective vaccine against it; and c) polio has been a blight on humanity since before recorded history, I say we kill it.

Bonus: once it’s eradicated, there is no more need to vaccinate against it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We were close to eradicating it all over the world, like smallpox. India has already practically done eradicated polio. Now, the question is why would anyone go against a century old vaccine, used by billions of people , to an almost eradicated disease? Why this one, why now?

I grew up with a wheelchair bound great uncle who got polio as a kid.

Let him try it on for size first, then see if he changes his mind. Filth. Fuck off back to the 14th Century, you troglodyte.

Someone should inject his kids with polio and then let's see if he changes his mind or have him sit in a iron lung for 48 hours

I am so tired of stupid people making policies. Shut the fuck up let people way smarter than you, suggest and come up with better things. This applies to any field. Science education mining environment manufacturing. How did the plastic versus paper bags work out. But hey what the fuck do I know

To be fair, we've been facing an intense propaganda war for decades now. It's complex, but essentially those engaging in the war figured out how to divide us, and ever since have work tirelessly to deepen that divide. The only way you can even know this is going on is to understand at least a little about global politics, propaganda and rhetoric, all subjects which most people have zero interest in. It's even harder to avoid it, let alone stop it.

Russia must be laughing. Drumpf is doing their work for them, and they don't have to lift a finger. Welcome to the Dark Ages.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad spent half a year in an iron lung when he got polio. He then lost the use of his arms and prematurely died from weakened lungs. Polio is a terror!!!!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, really? There's just no words for how truly ridiculous this all is. And we're just gonna let all this shit happen cause of an election? Fuck the election and fuck the government. These are all evil pieces of shit who shouldn't be running a goddamned thing. This is a good reason to overthrown them. Trump doing it was WRONG but us doing it is RIGHT. Why? Because they're going to kill us all

He’s a crank

obviously, but there has to be something driving him in this direction. Otherwise, why do it?

Money. It’s hard to explain the cottage industry that is involved in conspiracies and misinformation. Now he’s got a government job and plenty of opportunities for graft.

Big Pharma writes big checks to politicians. They will stop writing those checks if someone bans vaccines, birth control pills and other drugs that make them wealthy. Am I wrong? Also, fuck you Mr. Siri, what kind of stupid fucking name is that?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

If you ran Big Restaurant, you wouldn't want a shot that makes people full for 5 years at a time. You want to sell food all day every day to hungry people.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Vaccines reduce later illnesses. If people still get those illnesses, they’ll be paying for medicine for the rest of their life, rather than for the vaccine.

A healthy public funnels less money into medical businesses than one riddled with disease.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Vaccines generally aren't huge moneymakers, especially something like the Polio vaccine. Perhaps if they tried to ban all mRNA vaccines, especially with all the money poured into research over the past 20+ years with them only recently hitting the market.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Siri surname is Italian in origin.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I asked this before, but no one had an answer, so I'll try again: What the fuck even is the argument for this?!?

This is the FDA, not Congress. They don't make laws. They approve whether a substance is safe to use or not. And there's been almost 75 god damned years of proof that the vaccine is safe AND saves lives.

So what the god damned everliving FUCK do they think is going to happen here?

2 years ago | Likes 373 Dislikes 2

They think it causes autism despite the fact that has been debunked and the guy who connected the two Andrew Wakefield has been thoroughly discredited. But the wellness industry and influencers refuse to believe that. Absolute dummies.

Again, that's a reason.

Not the argument they're making to the FDA.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think this another notch in their belt to control everyone. If people can't get vaccinated, they can't leave. Now, most of America is already vaccinated because it has been mandatory and (for now) still is. BUT, if incoming children can't get it, they can't leave, their parents can't leave. This is, of course, under the assumption that there are countries out there that would be open to Americans. American arrogance, stupidity, overtness killed relationships with a lot of people.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t assume science or common sense has to do with this. Instead, use Occam’s Razor. There is no rational argument for vaccine hesitancy. This argument has been delivered largely via social media. Removing the requirement of childhood vaccines will cause death. Who benefits if the American democracy is overwhelmed by deaths? Who benefits by the significant destabilization of American democracy?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's easier to understand when you realize they're actively trying to destroy our country. Is that simple.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because RFK Jr is a brainless idiot who thinks vaccines are bad. All of them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They want to reintroduce deadly diseases to thin the population so that the remaining will be DESPERATE and they will be able to hold onto power because there will be fewer people to fight against them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They will ensure a private company will offer the polio vaccine, for starters , at a nominal market rate going forward .. The rich stay healthy while the sick stay poor...

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They want to circumvent science and just have uninformed conspiracy mongering politicians make all the decisions. They want more power over every aspect of the government and regulatory frameworks. They want to devalue and demonize experts and expertise so they can take over and in many cases, simply destroy the agencies over time. Destroying institutions is important for fascists because these institutions challenge their idea of absolute power for the fascist leader and his cronies.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mussolini said consolidating power was like "plucking a chicken" as in you must remove bits of the state standing in your way, one feather at a time, that's what is happening now.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It costs money, and it only keeps the poor people alive anyway, of whom we have far too many anyway. Better to thin the herd and put more money in our own pockets. We have enough money anyway, and vaccines for ourselves privately. At this point we're pursuing greed beyond the capacity for logic or rational thought, let alone human decency or morality. We also enjoy the power trip of complete totalitarian rule, doing whatever we want, and whatever our supporters praise us for.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's the real answer. Keep em sick, keep em poor.

Rest assured, the vaccine will remain in production because the rest of the world isn't quite as retarded as the US, and it will remain available for the children of the wealthy and powerful.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The honest answer is they don't believe the vaccine has been properly vetted. From a Gizmodo article "in the case of the polio and hepatitis B vaccine, he has argued that they should be removed until they’ve been tested in double-blinded, placebo-controlled randomized studies." It's just goalpost moving and bad-faith arguments.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They hate that science is accurate because they should be the only ones allowed to say what is and isn't accurate. So millions must die

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They doubt the vaccine's efficacy because they're braindead and the vaccine works. They don't see it every day, so they think its faked.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They are literally too stupid to function so they buy into every single conspiracy theory stupidity fiesta.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"The Informed Consent Action Network (“ICAN”) is a non-profit organization that
advocates for informed consent and disseminates information necessary for same with regard to
all medical interventions. In 2017, a supporter of ICAN advised the organization that the clinical
trial relied upon by the FDA to license IPOL reviewed safety for only three days after injection.
ICAN found this claim incredible. It sounded nothing short of a conspiracy theory."

They want to bring back polio and other things, then bring back the drugs so they can claim they fixed the problem.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

This is almost literally the same argument that the right wing has been about the ATF making "rules" about gun control. The ATF cannot make laws but they can make rules that are enforceable by huge fines and decades jail time. It's called Chevron Deference.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Chevron was overturned by the SCROTUS

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Long debunked theories that deadly diseases fortify the immune system when a person gets them. A long debunked paper that vaccines cause autism.

2 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Yeah. There have been 20 studies including 660,000 children that showed conclusively that vaccines do not cause autism.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

https://www.regulations.gov/docket/FDA-2022-P-1998/document Here's the petition, you can read the argument for yourself. Validity of the claims notwithstanding (and boy is there some twisted logic in there), the documents do include a few interesting notes that imgurians would normally call out as corruption from healthcare companies. But hey, foaming mouths are easier than nuance.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Foaming mouths on both sides, mind. This whole thing could have just as easily been spun as "Big Pharma bribed the FDA into only approving one untested vaccine that might have side effects to drive long-term dependence on even less regulated mental health drugs!", and then the sides would be reversed. Point is: It's worth seeing which kernel of truth an opponent chooses to base their twisted argument on - they might be wrong on *what* is wrong, but not *that* something is wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

FDA makes the rules. Congress passed the law authorizing them to make rules with the thinking that in the old days the FDA was run by scientists and doctors who know what they're talking about, not dipshits like Siri. The idiots have gained control of the keys to the castle.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Yes, they do. And he's a lawyer, not a member of the FDA. A lawyer making an argument about why they should revoke the vaccine.

I have no idea where you came up with what you said.

Suffering. Lots of suffering. Which they want

2 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 2

No, that's their reason, not their argument for this.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sure it's easy enough to get them to argue for suffering.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, I don't know then. Maybe that'll also be the arguenent?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Their argument, as I understand it, is that some harm is caused by the vaccine. To me that argument falls flat on its face. Polio irradiation far outweighs the fraction of 1% of harm that might occur.

2 years ago | Likes 171 Dislikes 0

It's not about making sense.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The chance of vaccine source polio in the US is zero. We don't use a live virus vaccine which is a stronger vaccine but slightly higher risk. In countries were polio is still a risk those vaccines are used and they do occasionally cause some illness but are much less severe than true polio.

Even in those situations is percents of a percent where the risk is.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Had a student in my X-ray class that developed GBS after receiving Gardasil. She used to post a bunch of dumb shit on Facebook about how vaccines were unsafe, all while completely ignoring all peer-reviewed evidence to the contrary. It didn't matter that it had helped millions of people avoid developing cancers, it (maybe) did something bad to her and therefore the benefits didn't outweigh the risks.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Their legal argument is it didn’t go through the proper vetting channels before being released, therefore they need to remove it to test again. It’s ridiculous but it’ll get to the SCOTUS then who knows what’ll happen. Vaccines are cheap but pharma can get a lot more money from the treatments

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That logic is indeed utterly absurd.

There are some risks associated with vaccines, just because of the way they work. That’s why efficacy has to be proven.

The Polio vaccine in particular has been a resounding success. Decades of empirical evidence demonstrate benefits which far outweigh the risks.

Even proposing a stoppage of Polio vaccination should give anyone a one way ticket to perennial societal opprobrium.

Why this person is considered serious and sane is beyond me.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

*eradication?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes. Thank you. Stupid spell check.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank god.

Radioactive polio sounds fucking terrifying!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They keep running with that causes autism bs. Autism has more than likely been around for thousands of years as wierd uncle George or the village herbalist who has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of plants but tends to shy from people and noisy villages. They are idiots that have no concept of science. They have no understanding of how labels and diagnoses of things constant in human history are now "more prevalent" simply because of communication and advancement. They are morons!

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

And even if vaccines did cause autism (which I know they don't) wouldn't alive but autistic still be better than dead from a disease like polio or smallpox?!?!? Or on the spectrum but paralyzed? How can someone like RFK Jr be the one to make that determination? I read a comment somewhere from a teen, who is on the autism spectrum, say that it's pretty insulting and disheartening to hear so many people asserting that they'd basically rather let their child die than to "be like me". Damn...

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Autistic people disproportionately represented in STEM right? Doesn’t autism cause vaccines?

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I read somewhere a while back that something like 90% of top mathematicians are on the autism spectrum.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

LOL! touche.... i agree they could. Have a +1

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If that is their argument, then we may as well ban all drugs.

2 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

Some think it's God's will and who are we to make end runs around God. Their logic is pretty stupid because one could argue their God inspired the person who came up with the vaccine to end suffering. But I have read the Bible, God loves punishment. So I dunno. Let's just have the vaccine and let God sort it out when we're dead.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Except viagra, of course. Because everything else is god's will, but a flaccid noodle requires human intervention.
