IMO, HIMYM peaked in season 3, 4/5 were ok. Seasons 6-9 were awful, they stopped creating awesome arcs and revisited too many mysteries.

Cost isn't profits. Merchandising, tie-ins, etc. are good for the simpsons as well, and advertising on it probably pays reasonable.

I think the right # of seasons for most franchises is 5. No show should ever go beyond 10 seasons. Spread them out if you must but Max at 10
