It was always a guy but I assume here they are honking for other reasons. The reporter, Felon Brown from a Louisiana station posted this to her TikTok to show people how it was frustrating.
UK news will always report on political matters outside number 10 and on criminal matters outside the spinning Scotland Yard sign even when there are no speechs being given at those locations. Both entirely pointless and the on location reporters have to be told what's happening by studio researchers so they can repeat it back for the cameras

As someone who’s not a fan of the news, but has had to accomplish a task that people keep instructing before, fuck those people. All I felt was sorry for the lady. Granted I have enough bias that if it were a fox channel I’d be okay with it. Fox did decide they are just entertainment, not news, so it’s not like anything useful is being interrupted.

I'm African-American. And I'm sorry but straight hair must be a royal pain in the ass. I can't even count how many times she had to smooth her hair back. I don't know why she thinks it makes a difference. It's obviously a nervous habit but based in that stuff being out of control all the time. How freaking annoying that must be!

I have long straight hair. It can be a pain, especially on windy days and washing it (I have to do it in halves), but I still love it. It feels so nice and silky.
Depends on your hair type, when I had long hair, it's naturally straight, but just a few fuckers would get in your eyes or mouth or whatever, especially with wind blowing. Feels like spider webs on your face or similar. So unless you got it fully controlled with something you frequently need to put hair back in it's place
I have hair so straight that instructors have used me as a model for teaching cutting annoying hair and I can tell you it's only ever down when it's too short to pull back

Depends on hair weight and type. I have lot of it and it is very slick and straight and fine. It doesn't get tangled and even sorts itself out by itself after a wash. But it will get blown wherever a lot. I don't bother tying it up much since it doesn't stay put and I get so much runaways I look messier when I tie it. Makes up on the unruliness by not brushing

Every time a take is ruined, she has to reset her hair to a point where it still looks good on camera, and will hold without blowing into her face for long enough to get the uninterrupted clip the station needs, so she's tucking the strays near her hairline back behind her ears.
The same shot with the wind blowing towards her is much easier, having someone to reset the camera would mean less walking, which would stop it from bouncing around on her shoulders, and reduce the amount of pre-roll hair prep she needs per take.
In a more casual setting, she could just use a hair band or tie it back or wear a hat, but in this circumstance she's trying to meet segment style guidelines written by white, sexist news execs 40 years ago for entirely different production teams.

So I can't wear it down cos little random short bits stick up, but if I keep tying it up it makes the problem worse. I don't know what to do. (Plus I have an undercut which was fine cos my hair was so thick, but now it looks like a mullet if I wear my hair down)

Former teacher here, saying the thought out loud helps it to actualize, it allows your brain to do metacognition, thinking about how you thought. Now that you got the thought out of your head and into “reality” your mind is freed to think about the thought. Sometimes we just gotta get it out of our head to finally get it.
Well .. saying the thought out loud is a help but only a start. I didn't need to do this out loud in public.
After all is said and done, I was lucky. The original person who downvoted me chose to answer. And after reviewing their response and others I came up with a lesson learned. The lesson didn't necessarily come directly from the responses but from my introspection.

The short answer to your question is: it would not have bothered me.
The long answer: now that I have learned how I should have made the comment, I see improvement which is necessary. The new me after this lesson would still be curious, would still state the curiosity, but would NOT make an absolution "it must be annoying".
Some people have an automatic defence to call you out when they see something they relate, but if they read your words properly they'd realise you being empathetic from previous observations

Nah you didn't. I am white and have long straight hair, nothing you said was offensive. And honestly it can be very annoying in the wind where moving it back doesn't really do anything to stop it from moving back in your face. But it can be itchy if you don't move it out of your face.
Usually I'd tie it up if I have to be out in the wind, but she likely wants to keep it down so it looks better. That said straight long hair can feel really nice if you keep good care of it. Very silky!

I guess like anyone with very short hair ... African-American or otherwise ... I just brush mine in the morning & mostly forget it the rest of the day.
Come to think of it, I don't know how fellow African-Americans with braids or dreadlocks deal with it either. I guess it has nothing to do with being straight hair. I just look at people constantly adjusting hair and go "well that's curious" XD

Former teacher here, saying the thought out loud helps it to actualize, it allows your brain to do metacognition, thinking about how you thought. Now that you got the thought out of your head and into “reality” your mind is freed to think about the thought. Sometimes we just gotta get it out of our head to finally get it.

Well .. saying the thought out loud is a help but only a start. I didn't need to do this out loud in public.
After all is said and done, I was lucky. The original person who downvoted me chose to answer. And after reviewing their response and others I came up with a lesson learned. The lesson didn't necessarily come directly from the responses but from my introspection.
This is the whole journey of actualization. Getting every thought out alone is catharsis not actualization. Thanks tho!

My hair is a mix of straight, curly, wavy, and so often it looks a bit frizzy. I can tell you it's a pain in the ass. People alway complement my hair though.

That's the obvious and easier assumption. But in order to confirm I needed to ask. It's always better to ask in my book and at least there's a chance for confirmation.
Of course, an insidious person might try to wind me up or otherwise just lie for psychological "fun" for themselves. But I subjectively consider myself very difficult to bait. Thanks for the comment though.

I appreciate your feedback. I have learned something from this whole interaction but it was complicated as a process.
The short answer to your question is: it would not have bothered me.
The long answer: now that I have learned how I should have made the comment, I see improvement which is necessary. The new me after this lesson would still be curious, would still state the curiosity, but would NOT make an absolution "it must be annoying".

Imgur is a weird site where the majority is white, wants to feel progressive, but a large chunk of these same people are systemically racist. No criticism, observation, or comment on anything related to them is allowed. I barely used this site for years due to butt hurt downvoters. But the site has shifted a lot and reasonable people have started to outnumber the mostly silent racists.

Thank you. Literally got downvoted yesterday for saying that museums like in Britain should return artifacts they stole from other countries because they're not "spoils of war" but violations and shows of disrespect towards other cultures - something we should be moving away from. Not the only sign of the thing you accurately described obviously, but it just reminded me of the reasons why I stopped coming here years ago and only recently made a new profile.

Nah you didn't. I am white and have long straight hair, nothing you said was offensive. And honestly it can be very annoying in the wind where moving it back doesn't really do anything to stop it from moving back in your face. But it can be itchy if you don't move it out of your face.
Usually I'd tie it up if I have to be out in the wind, but she likely wants to keep it down so it looks better. That said straight long hair can feel really nice if you keep good care of it. Very silky!

I'm downvoting you because you are making assumptions based on your own opinions. You can make an opinion of "I think straight hair is a pain in the ass," But saying the next part makes her seem stupid to not know she can have different hair styles. Maybe her hair is naturally straight and she likes that look. Then saying its obviously a nervous habit is just being judgmental and saying its annoying is being an ass. Unless someone is being an asshole if you have nothing nice to say don't say it.

My interpretation was "her hair keeps moving it and she keeps trying to put it back in its place to no avail - this seems like a potentially annoying task." At no point did the comment make it sound (to me) like she was stupid for having that hair style, just that it looked a bit like it might be bothering her in the moment

Exactly this. Say your opinion if you want but making assumptions based on it for no reason is just rude. She very likely loves her hair just like this person loves their non-straight hair. But because they don't like her straight hair they're making it sound like she needs to change. It's just a difference of opinion.

"for no reason" is an absolute. If there was no reason (zero), she wouldn't have adjusted her hair. If there was no reasons (zero) for my I wouldn't have commented at all.
I never said I didn't like her hair.
Every human being is curious about other human beings' experiences. My observation that it was uncomfortable was an opinion. I don't know her experience.
When you say I "make it sound" a certain way it's also an opinion - yours not mine. You could ask me. I couldn't ask her.

In the same sense, because I could not ask her, I probably could have stated my curiosity without any statements of absolutes. I said "it must be annoying".
Even though several comments with straight hair agreed, it doesn't mean I needed to theorize when I don't have the feature. I could ask generally.
Another commenter said something and I agree. "If you can't say something nice don't say anything". If I'm curious, next time I'll be more careful not to make absolutions. I apologize.

I certainly agree with the final statement "if you have nothing nice to say don't say it".
In retrospect, I suppose if I have a curiosity I should keep it to myself unless it can be carefully crafted to avoid miscommunication and potential injury.

Curiosity is super important and I implore you to not hold your curiosity in. When I first read your comment I read it as someone who just spoke what they thought and not what they meant. I downvoted simply because on social media sites you are suppose to downvote people asking why they were downvoted. Or that was my thought. I was simply explaining how your comment could be interpreted. Take out straight hair and put in a black afro blowing the the wind. would your comment be changed? 1/2

If so why would it be changed? If not how could the question be asked different so misinterpretation doesn't happen. How difficult is it to straighten hair? instead of having it down would it be easier for her to tie it back and what would be the reason why she wouldn't? 2/2
