I guess it’s worth it, for him.

I'm attracted to bad-asses and hearts of gold. Took me over 30 years to find both in one person.

I don't want to live in a society where anyone needs a romantic partner to a point where they're trapped in a relationship-gone-sour for lack of other survival options. This shouldn't be happening in a developed country.

"they inherently don't need you, and if you aren't a good husband they sure as hell don't want you." FTFY James.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Viewing marriage as something that stays together only because your partner needs you, rather than that they want to be with you, is certainly a view.

2 weeks ago | Likes 217 Dislikes 5

Marriage is only a need when one of the partners is essentially a sold off slave who is financially shackled to the other. Being a decent enough human for your partner to WANT to be with you is where it's at.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Very revealing about his thoughts on relationships. If he thinks women are leaving him because they "don't need him", he's doing it wrong.

2 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Depends on what he wants.
He may be doing it right.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

NSFW I'm curious to know the wider context for this response. Lots of people here trying to psychologically deconstruct this and overlooking the possibility it was just a joke.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I don't get it then.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

His first wife basically got all his early movies done.

2 weeks ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

I think he has only made really good movies while married to women who knew how to make movies, too. I have this half assed theory that he needs someone he respects and who knows movies to stop his most dumb and terrible ideas.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Marriage is an out-dated custom. Be with the person you want to be with and, when one of you outgrows or no longer enjoys the other's company, part ways amicably.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Perhaps humans are serially monogamous by nature, and it is social pressure which causes marriage to be common. One partner for life is not a good strategy, as a partner may have genetic defects.

“James Cameron doesn’t do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron IS James Cameron.” - James Cameron (South Park - Season 16, Episode 9 “Raising the Bar”)

His name is James, James Cameron
The bravest pioneer
No budget too steep, no sea too deep
Who's that?
It's him, James Cameron
James, James Cameron explorer of the sea
With a dying thirst to be the first
Could it be? Yeah that's him!
James Cameron

He has some caching up to do te reach Zsa Zsa Gabor with 9 marriages.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cameron is visionary filmmaker.

He's also a notorious asshole.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If someone doesn't need you then they would have to WANT you... So you need to have qualities that make you enjoyable to be around. Is that... Not ideal for some people?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From all accounts Ive heard of him, he's a visionary, but also a huge asshole.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pro-tip… don’t get into relationships to feel needed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Nailed it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like he was a trash husband.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think the women were the problem, for this 5x divorcee.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't help that he's got an ego the size of Rhode Island.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The James Cameron running joke was one of the best things about the tv show Future Man.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is it a problem that he was ‘married’ 5 times? That’s just 5 relationships that also got government sponsorship. They ended. If you was just ‘dating’ those women for the same amount of time, no one would care.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Yikes... of all the red flags this one is the #FF0000-est of them. A partner should want to stay with you because of you, this sounds like he's humble-bragging while reframing himself as the victim.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As someone who shares that taste, yeah. You kinda have to go in knowing that she may change her mind.

2 weeks ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 7

That goes for any relationship. People can change their minds and you don’t control someone else’s actions or choices. There is no 100% certainty. That goes for anything in life, really.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

This. I like women that know what they want.

Down side: that may eventually not include you.

It’s my good fortune that most of us have remained friends.

2 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Yep. And they're some of the most brilliant, passionate and driven people I've ever known, so I count myself lucky they're still friends.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Preach. Just because I didn’t hit the mark doesn’t mean for even a second they shouldn’t go be their best selves.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look, I love his movies ... but, didn't he cheat on at LEAST 2 of them? That's a 40% infidelity rate. I don't think the "strong independent woman" is the problem.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's a little self-serving James. That's a straw man dressed as a humble brag with a side order of self-victimization.

2 weeks ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 7

Exactly, the only common denominator in this equation is HIM.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I mean, it's nobody's business anyway, so why the heck should he give a 100% honest to that?

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

It is nobody's business, Which would have been the best answer to the question.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Yeah, but that would've been poorly received, and he is still reliant on fans to watch his movies. In a lot of ways, entertainers have to act like politicians to remain relevant

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Dude, I don't care about the perceived PR problems of a fucking almost billionaire. He hasn't been reliant on fans since Avatar 1.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Well, it’s a better take than “they was crazy“ that the serial date rapist that I knew in College used to say after each date.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did you get a chance to light his pants on fire? Just for the screaming?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can only hope his brief dalliance with being cute and relevant evaporated around 2001.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh creepy as heck!
I hope he burned in jail?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why should a woman (or a man for that matter) NEED a partner at all? Shouldn't mutual attraction, respect, and emotional attachment be sufficient? In fact, those are what I was always taught were the REASONS you decided to spend your lives together and maybe raise a family... together. But my dad was a little ahead of his time in some ways, like how he instructed his sons with regard to women, and what he modelled for us in his marriage to mom.

2 weeks ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 7

He didn't say that they should. He said he was attracted to the ones that didn't need a partner.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cheap Trick has a song "I want you to want me", and some people are just that way, they don't feel loved or appreciated unless they feel the person needs them and will be desperate or inconsolable without them.

2 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Well, and I think we really are animals that need others. Yes a lot of people need external validation... That's kind of the human, or at least societal, condition. Just my opinion, I'm no smarter than anyone else here...

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I don't disagree that as a species, as human souls, we need others in some way, some more than others, but like the song, it can be taken to an unhealthy level, like in codependent relationships, etc.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well of course, that's always the other side of what we are talking about, or ONE OF the other sides...

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wanting to be wanted and needing to be needed are two different things. (Of course, Cheap Trick did express interest in both, so take from that what you will)

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I am married to a strong independent woman... been married once and with her for nearly 40 years...

Maybe he just kind of sucks as a husband?

2 weeks ago | Likes 626 Dislikes 15

or maybe shes not as independent as you think, or maybe youre a total pushover.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Or maybe I don't cheat on my wife the way Cameron has to every one of those five women.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He's attracted to strong independent women but not good at being married to them. Maybe he should try marrying a different kind of woman.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d bet on it.

I once started watching a documentary of his about undersea exploration. Had to turn it off as I found him intolerable. His personality is that of a spoiled rich kid having a temper tantrum.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20 years here. I think he just sucks as a partner.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me and wifey just passed 25 years here, any advice for a young whippersnapper?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, every time the other does something that annoys you, ask yourself, 'is this worth ending the marriage over' if the answer is yes, then go for it. Otherwise, leave it alone.... cuz most of the fights i see are over petty bullshit instead of stuff that matters.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It kinda just sounded like a funny way to show he still admires them for who they are even though it didnt work out.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Right, but he is the common denominator in all of those failed relationships... he should admit that he is the reason those marriages failed, not them.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not always that simple. If someone gets abused by 3 different partners, it's not their fault they're getting abused, right?
No clue about him as a person, but some people just have terrible judgment when it comes to finding partners. He may be a bad husband, he may go for incompatible people, I don't know his deal to be able to say.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OK, he has admitted he cheated on every single one of those five wives and that is why the marriages ended. He is the problem.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He kind of said that when he said "They don't need you."

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, also, his constant cheating on all of them didn't work to sustain the marriage

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not denying that at all. Just saying that he's covering not being a good husband without going into specifics during that on le sentence.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right, but the reality is is that HE was the reason those marriages failed and his statement is trying to deflect it and blame the women.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think we're going to disagree on this one. The statement by itself isn't blaming the women. I'm sure there was more in the interview where he said something else, but im referring only to the single sentence posted. I just don't read that as placing blame on the women. Its not defending him, just commenting on the actual statement.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's kinda what he's saying.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

No, he is generalizing and saying they don't need 'You' when he means they don't need him.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

And your wife never once needed James Cameron, either.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah Cameron's kind of a cunt.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Same here, 43 years, same woman!

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

For a decade I have thought you were gay

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Something in the name I suppose

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The straights can have a little butt sex sometimes, as a treat.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same-
it just made Bippiry-Boppity-ButtSex-SENSE!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you don't have to be gay to enjoy your p-spot.

Also, I am not not gay, I am just more straight.... I am the 'if you put Brad Pitt from Fight Club in front of me, I ain't saying no' kind of straight.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He neglected to state that at least one of his wives found out from the press that they were divorcing.

2 weeks ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 0

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I gasped out loud when I read this. Damn, dude.

2 weeks ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

Same, got me one of those wold "thinking women", been 20 years and we are closer than ever. The secret: just treat them like a people, ita literally all they want.

2 weeks ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Well, and mine also wants me to not ask where things are after she rearranges the apartment for the 12th time that month. ;)

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Mine also has ADHD. 😅

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mine wants to cuddle even when it's 42C (okay she's filipina, this explains almost all of her funny habits like biting my shoulder cause she loves me lol).

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are literally a banana !

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And they love you for it! It's the most amazing thing!

2 weeks ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Or, and hear me out, the strong intependent woman keeps you as a cute little pet...

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

i man can dream

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm listening...

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He cheated on all of them! Hope this helps

2 weeks ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Maybe he would have less divorces if he was in offically open marriages, but ai suspect he does like the idea of them sleeping around, only him sleeping around.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If this was true why wouldn't he have mentioned it? /s

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Both can be true…

2 weeks ago | Likes 197 Dislikes 3

I dunno, after 5 of them ditched him, I think we can put the scale heavier on his side.

2 weeks ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Both of you could be right.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

"You ran into an asshole all day..."

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Correct.

A strong independent woman doesn’t need him: She can stay with him or leave him.

His statement is true.

5 of then have left him: He’s a bad husband.

The responding statement is true.

Ergo: Both can be true.

2 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Fucking perfect response
