This is my 15 year old puppy MrPuckett

Some of you have read about his recent health issues.

Last week we went on vacation in Nashville. I liked it so much I rented a home there and move next week.

I was excited to tell everyone, but this is not that post.

After two days home from vacation, it had been a full 48 hours since MrPuckett ate anything.

His struggles walking went to struggles standing, and hasn't walked since Nashville.

He was also shaking uncontrollably.

Yesterday we spent the day at the animal emergency hospital and found out he's lost 13% of his bodyweight in less than two weeks.

Despite a specialist calling his issues "arthritis" just 12 days before, the hospital quickly found that this was not the case.

They think he has a brain tumor that's affecting him neurologically ... and badly.

It's not that his legs can't walk, or his stomach is upset, they think his brain has been forgetting how to walk, and doesn't remember to eat.

It's progressing so fast.

As of last night, I don't think MrPuckett knows who I am anymore, or where he is.

We've got a ton of meds, most importantly appetite stimulants.

Even with those last night, it got to almost 55 hours since he's eaten.

These were his last steps a few days ago. Now even when he stands his legs criss cross and he falls before making it a single step.

He doesn't know how to walk anymore.

I keep ordering steaks and his favorite meals on doordash just to see him walk right by it like he doesn't know what it is.

We haven't slept much in two days. He tries to hide in weird spots but I can hear this noise all over my small apartment...

The next step is seeing a neurologist for an MRI and possible treatment on the (predicted) tumor.

The earliest appointment I could set in the Nashville area is 12 days away.

It has now been close to 63 hours since he's eaten, he's not going to make it 12 days like this.

I hope he still knows it's me.

I hope he still knows I won't leave his side for a second.

I hope he knows I'm trying.

...

The light in my life is dimming, and I'm not fucking ready for it.

Much love, Abe

I am so sorry, truly. Sounds like Mr Puckett is ready and Abe is not. I understand your pain, and I know it is about his.

Things like this are impossible to be ready for but remember there are people there for you. Stay strong.

I went through this last October. Its heart wrenching. When I decided to put my buddy down it was to end his suffering. I'm so sorry.

MrPuckett has been your angel through the hard times, maybe now his job is done and it’s getting near the time for him to have a rest. X

I wasn't ready for this post and I can't begin to know what you are feeling.

OP I'm so sorry. I've been following you since I joined imgur. I'm a huge animal lover. I can't stop crying.

6 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 3

You both captivate and inspire the hearts of thousands. Thank you, MrPuckett.

6 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 2

I don't think any of us are ever ready. You gave him a beautiful gift by being his friend.

6 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 4

Watching Mr Puckett shaking hurts and is scary :( I heart you both @OP. I hope he knows you're doing your best too. This is...it's fucked :(

6 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 3

I'm so sorry brother. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help, vet bills, anything. You're not alone.

6 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

Yes, seriously - I think many of us will help you financially as much as we can. I’m definitely in for that.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I love you, Mr. Puckett

6 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 2

This is heartwrenching. I can't even imagine having that happen with my cat. I hope he eats some food soon.

6 years ago | Likes 662 Dislikes 6

I had a nightmare yesterday that my cat died. I literally woke up sobbing. Thing is, I don’t have have a cat. So I understand your perfectly

6 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

@MrPuckett if you can drive to Atlanta (Woodstock area), my wife is in veterinary neurology and can get you in much sooner.

6 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Surely there are enough people here willing to drive part of the way to get them there without it being too much for anyone. Relay style.

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I would honestly drive him myself if needed. I just need a response.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know it sounds harsh, but sometimes the kindest thing to do is end the suffering. You owe that to the animals you love: a decent way to1/2

6 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 4

2/2 leave. It's the hardest decision but i wouldn't wait too long anymore. It's not gonna get better. My heart goes out to both of you.

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2

He knows, man. He knows.

6 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

(1) Even *if* he doesn't know who *you* are, I'm willing to bet he still knows, or at least "feels" that whoever this person is- cares & is→

6 years ago | Likes 298 Dislikes 2

a good person. And that's a wonderful & meaningful thing that you can find strenth in, regardless of how things ultimately turn out. <3

6 years ago | Likes 161 Dislikes 1

This is absolutely true. Just hold onto him. Memories are more than just your brain. It's the comfort you know viscerally.

6 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I'll pray for our dear Mr.Puckett, u r not alone, Abe, sending virtual hugs for both of u from across the world

6 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

It's rough, but it looks like it's time to let MrPuckett go. May your grief soon turn to fond memories.

6 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 6

I agree, it is the humane thing to do at this point. Poor pup is suffering.

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 7

How about you let the owner and their vets decide? If it's an operable tumor pressing on something and he's fine after how will you feel?

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 9

Oh wow, don't remember asking your opinion.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

Maybe don't post on the internet if you don't want replies, pal.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You are correct, people can reply! So go eat a dick

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't remember asking for yours either? How about waiting until the owner knows what's wrong before killing the dog?

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Are you a real person

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I love all the people who know better than the vets treating the dog what's wrong with it. If we listened to all the people telling us to /

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

@op call the vet his appointment is at every day. Tell them how long it’s been since he’s eaten. If the receptionist can’t do anything >

6 years ago | Likes 254 Dislikes 6

Yes, they might have a last minute cancellatino

6 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

See if they will let you talk to a tech, vet assistant, or veterinarian. Go in and talk in person if over the phone gets you nothing.

6 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 4

@OP THIS! Don’t take no for an answer, try to get an earlier appt.

6 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 3

Go to different Dr. Mr puckett needs a neurologist and emergency ct/mri.

6 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

@op They can also give him a feeding tube straight to his stomach. You won't have to worry about him starving.

6 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 5

This. @MrPuckett when my pup was sick and not eating we’d take him back every few days for IV. It’s not idea but it could get him to that-

6 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

Next appointment. All of imgur is rooting for you. Please don’t be embarrassed about asking for what you need whether that’s emotional -

6 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Support, someone to go to the vet with you, supplies sent through an amazon wish list, or go fund me. You’re not asking for free things-

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

It’s not a one way street, you’ve been there for us and now it’s our turn to be here for you. Please let us xx

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Emotional time bombs.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This. The hardest part of having a pet is this responsibility.

6 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

We suffer, so they won't.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

@MrPuckett, Abe I'm worried about you. Do you have a support system in place? Your recovery is so important with this and the move.

6 years ago | Likes 505 Dislikes 8

I have super supportive people in Nashville that can help. Just let me know how to reach you and I'll have them reach out to you.

6 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 2

Ditto. I know ur strong, but would love to know u have a support plan. Would also GLADLY lend an ear, shoulder, etc. in times of need.

6 years ago | Likes 158 Dislikes 3

MrPucket became somewhat of a mascott over the years... Someone should take care to immortalize him next to our Giraffe on this site...

6 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

You need support Abe, this probably isn’t the best time to be moving to a new city... stay where the people who love you are. It’s so hard:(

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Who the fuck is down voting well wishes to MrPuckett?

6 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Cats

6 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Mr pucket for president!!

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can someone please start the gofundme for @MrPuckett 's bills? I have a feeling Abe isn't going to ask for shit. I want to give them money.

6 years ago | Likes 247 Dislikes 4

Maybe get weratedogs on this

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe someone like @Sarah? I think we'd all trust that.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I don’t think it’s a matter f money, but rather the availability of services.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

How can that be. There absolutely is an MRI available before 12 days. Either he's not asking for help or something. Er MRI are available

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

No offense but the a hospital isn’t going to let a vet use an MRI. The vet likely scheduled one through a local office >

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

< and that’s the soonest it would be available.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm not trying to speed things up, I'm trying to help pay for things. How much has Abe done for people? Time to help with MrP's vet bills.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Our vet hospital here in fort Collins is over of the best around. I don't know if he could take the flight stress though

Let's not jump to a GoFundMe until we've gotten further along with more information from Abe. Lots of folks offering vet svcs already

6 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Yes, great intentions, but no one is going to scam Abe and mr Puckett out of anything which happens too often with generous people+ GoFundMe

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I want to help but Why is it in Euros? Honest question am I missing something

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

bc i am european and apparently cant set it to usd

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait until something more official pops up. That guy has not made comments on any of Abe's older posts. This go fund me seems weird.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

6 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 3

Anddddd... that guy who set it up deleted his comments.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Offering MRI and CT scans for free? That's amazing! I know that they can't rely on that forever though. There will be bills. I want to help.

6 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

It might be time. He won't suffer anymore & he will always, always be with you. It sucks. It hurts. But you have to think about how much 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 1276 Dislikes 7

Yes I had to do this with my two. You just know when it's time. Luckily my vet came to the house and organised the cremation... Good Luck

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

When my dog was close to death he was hiding- finding a place to pass alone. He let me in before he was gone completely.

6 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Hiding away, not eating, behavior change, fast body and brain deterioration...this is the point where I would let him rest. The goodest boy.

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

when it is time we need to let them go. Making them suffer for our benefit isnt good. Ive had to do it a couple times for pets.

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Love you've both given each other! You've given him an amazing life, but he seems like he's really suffering. Best of luck to you 2/2

This @MrPuckett Your Imgur family has your back! My cat Sandy was having a rough tine toward the end of his life and we had to make 1

He will always be with US

It's been 1.5 yrs since I had to make that Most Awful Decision for my 22 y/o kitty. It still hurts but I know it was the right thing. 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

2/2 Kidneys were failing, she'd hardly eat, only took water from an eydropper. She was tired. Now she can rest & know she's loved forever.

6 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

There are only two ways to repay a dog's kindness and love: treat them well when they are alive, and have the strength to let them rest.

6 years ago | Likes 389 Dislikes 3

I’ve never heard it said better than this.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Very true.

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

This! I've seen so many pet owners refusing to let go. My brother's last dog had to suffer for 6months before he was put down -_-

6 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 0

Pet ownership comes with the implicit obligation that you may one day have to kill them, painlessly, as the greater mercy. We owe it to them

6 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 0

I feel like half the sick animal posts on here are of poor creatures that should have been put to rest days, weeks, or months ago.

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

it’s not easy either. i’m a grown man in my 40s and i bawled like a baby when i said goodbye to my cat of 13 years.

6 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

I'm in Chattanooga, I can be in Nashville in a couple hours if you need anything. This is impossibly tough and you need not go through alon

6 years ago | Likes 3810 Dislikes 13

Maybe those of you lucky enough to be geographically close can help Abe move in to his new place and settle in Nashville

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nowhere near Nashville. I live in NJ but I can pitch in $ if needed. Sending good vibes to you and the little one. Please stay strong.

6 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 2

I am 30 min south of Nashville. There are a lot of Vet clinics in the Franklin area if you need options. Or just to talk

6 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

You’re one of the best people.

6 years ago | Likes 230 Dislikes 1

Or a murderer. I'm willing to risk OPs life though. He shan't go through this alone. Losing a pet is painful

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

I'm not understanding your comment.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My condolences for this situation you two are in. I pray he can recover but hope he suffers no more. Be strong. Many here care for you two.

We don’t have a vet school with a lot of resources but Dickson is only 30-40 minutes west of Nashville. Farmland out here means the vets1/2

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Know their stuff. I can get the number for the vet I take my dogs. But I know most of them out here are great.

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think the issue is specifically the appointment date for MRI. If they can do it earlier, PM him the info.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm usually in Raleigh or Atlanta but stuck in Phoenix right now. Great thing about Raleigh-NC State is right there with the vet school.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can find an emergency neurologist w/ct/mri for Abe. I bet we would all donate. Abe doesn't have that kind of money but together we all do.

6 years ago | Likes 782 Dislikes 3

I’ll donate too

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Not anywhere near there, not happy to donate what I can to help Mr. Puckett & Abe.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I’d donate. Someone set up a gofundme!

6 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 2

I second this! This guy has done so much by lifting our spirits on hard days. We should find a way to support him through this.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

If Abe gets him to neurologist we can probably donate directly.
