My parents criticized everything I ever did, refused to let me get glasses even though I qualify as legally blind without them, and loved to humiliate me in front of others. He threatened to kill me me with a heavy garden rake when I was 10 and all she said was I must have made him mad at me. When I was 12, I decided I would never have kids because I didn't want to be like them or over-compensate and go too far the other way. I'm 70 now and know I made the right decision to put an end to that.

Cats by nature don't normally live in prides. They can when there's abundance of food and room to still have their personal space when needed.

1: I don't think that's the comment you meant to respond to and 2: look up studies such as https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10822437/ and you will see that cats form colonies as a preference, which means it is their nature to form a colony if at all feasible. Solitary behavior is driven by intense resource competition, and is not their normal state.

And your point is wrong because it's not normal. Yes there's isolated areas on the planet that cats live on groups when there is an over abundance of food provided for them. But that doesn't make it the norm for them. The reason they some times get confused when you pet them too much is because in nature they only have contact when fucking or fighting. If it were the norm for them to live in groups that wouldn't be the case.

My left-handed dad was forced to write with his right hand, hated school, flunked out, then punished his kids and called them stupid when they didn't have straight A's every report card. And you'd best bet he can't spell their names or help with the homework. But his dad killed kittens and puppies in front of him, beat him relentlessly, and used him as a farm hand from the age of 5 so my dad is quite proud of being a better parent. Like a cocaine addict who is proud of not being a meth addict.

This is so spot on it's uncanny. My grandparents had kids they abused, so my parents had kids they disliked, so I got a cat who I love beyond measure (then I got four more cats, three dogs, four sheep, seven goats, eighty six chickens, five rabbits [now in the dozens], and another kitten just for back up)

Looks like they are kept somewhat similar to chickens, just less social. So @ Op totally could if they want except the bird doesn't like to roost in trees. My parents broke the generational trauma - it was only when I was well into my 20's (and my siblings were all adults as well) that I started to learn about the things they dealt with growing up. Breaking the cycle is real and really works. Unfortunately, neither me nor my siblings are likely to have children, so we're unlikely to perpetuate the benefit XD

My brother broke our generational trauma and had 5 girls! (He who had said in high school and college that he wouldn't have any kids, Ha!) Though his wife and her family were substantial assistance in that breaking and I am so glad he had them.
