Well yeah it had massive surface area, which basically guaranteed 3 challenges already. Just like several others were basically sabotaged for such challenges. The '8-legged' having no actual surface area, just 'spiky' feet, severely hindered it.
Alright step by step just for you then: 1: Establish contact with an entity that may be interested in making a bet. 2: Determine the terms of the bet. 3: Have both parties agree on the terms. 4: Await result. 5: Complete the bet according to the earlier agreement.
The two-legged walker wins most of the ones where the others fail because its legs have a much greater range of motion, and therefore its contact surfaces can reach above and below obstacles to lift and pull it over. It maintains a stable state whether the legs, the body, or both are in contact with the ground, as well as a large static contact area, so it's much less prone to tip or slide. It's the radically different design, not the legs, that allow it to win.
Now of course this isn't a perfect example but this is exactly why I despise Mecha Robot designs in SciFi. We humans can't do anything about how we are born but designing a robot? An easy couple of dozen better ways to move stuff. Especially large Mecha's our hands are great at manipulating stuff but once you get to a certain size things will just start breaking if you try and handle it like we would with our hands (can't pick a car up by its bumper, but can pick a hot wheel by it's).
Which is honestly quite cool, cause for us, bipedalism is the “what” that defined our evolutionary path. Like the single most important change for millennia until brain size adaptations started showing up.
its really interesting on an evolutionary basis...vertebrates have certain advantages when it comes to bone structure and muscle usage which allows them to outperform insects and arachnids in terms of size, and size matters in terms of physics, a drop of water has a certain size, and how you interact with it depends on your own size...also see computers and the size of microchips, ants inventing computers would have it tougher than us...so its clear why a species of vertebrates would dominate >
An interesting point but I'm mostly approaching it from a physics stand point, a robot doesn't need to evolve it just needs to be designed to do a task. To be even more clear I'm talking about giant humanoid robots, not ones of our rough size. Our hands are great at deft dexterous control, but at a certain size all that becomes irrelevant because you can't do that anymore. It's a lot like insects can only get to certain sizes and no bigger because physically they or nature could not support it.
> the planet...but insects and especially arachnids are better designed in terms of limbs, one pair of big pincers for fighting, a small pair for eating, a pair of antenna for detecting scents and stuff, still many pairs of legs for locomotion and stability...but for some reason land vertebrates only have 2 pairs and once you develope opposable thumbs you suddenly have to walk upright and get back pain and use a huge part of your brainpower to balance constanly to not tip over...wtf nature...<<<
It’s because evolutionarily, our bodies are entirely designed to support our brains. No other evolutionary advantage has ever come close to the human brain, and everything about our bodies are built around it.

These are impressive, but let's see some curves or corners. See how they handle those.

Somewhat different but still similar...

Reminds me of the spider and little bugs and things in The Trap Door.

I have a soft spot for the 16-leg walker. It always seems like it's bustling everywhere. "Must dash, gotta go, places to be..."

I like how the cool four-legged Star Wars-looking one not only keeps failing but also one of its feet falls off on more than one occasion :P

I love how the winner has these gigantic feet and a teeny-tiny little tail.

If you put rubber feet on a lot of them, then they would have done better.

-1:1, how much you wanna bet?

I don't, I don't understand what that means, but I know the odds favor the house. I can tell because way too many more people go broke than casinos.

Technically, isn't it a three-legged walker, or three-footed anyway, since it's using its entire body as a contact surface?

If you liked that one you will enjoy the one with the cars as well https://youtu.be/UQsEGUUuCCY with best car giant wheel. Also by the same guy.

I patiently watched this whole video quietly rooting for the 2-ligged walker. Wasn't disappointed.

Technically, it’s body acts as a third foot. It’s a 2-legged, 3-footed walker.

That’s, um not quite right. Bipedalism came long before the increase in brain size.
