My only guess in reasoning behind this policy is legal trouble from people on the DarkWeb using Imgur as an image host for CP

Nah, that's just the easy excuse they'll make. It's always, always, always about a payment processor or advertiser (or, as others have mentioned, a sale of the company) wanting ALL the explicit content gone because of "family values" or some shit.

Imgur was bought by MediaLab AI. Tiktok is owned by Bytedance. Can you show a citation that Medialab is owned by Bytedance? I don't see anything in my searches
