Some depression comics

Jan 3, 2018 7:22 PM

Get help if you need it. If you see someone that needs help, be there for them. You can’t help everyone, but everyone call help someone. Edit: from reading the comments it’s become quickly apparent that Imgur is a hurting community. We all can struggle with mental health issues from time to time, or for some it can seem like it lasts forever. I saw just as many people saying “reach out and talk to me” as I did people saying “I need help.” I had good success with a few counseling sessions and a prescription for Wellbutrin. I know that won’t work for everyone. What helped me the best was finding a local community with common interests to be a part of that takes care of each other. If it’s ever too much please take a moment to call or text 1-800-273-8255.

It's comics like these that keep the gun away from my noggin

Hey if anyone needs someone to talk to, shoot me a pm and if you need to hear a voice, call 1-800-273-8255 for the suicide hotline. They (1/

Do more than just talk someone off a ledge. They also have a texting service and online messaging.

#2 while it can happen, I don't like that you included it; seems anti-meds. Try them. Antidepressants are probably the only reason I'm alive

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

(2/2) I.e. don't further the misleading narrative that they change you, don't help, or are just "happy pills" bc none of that is true

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Thank you for this. I've been struggling with depression, PTSD, dissociative disorder, and as I recently learned, high-functioning autism.

I just got the strength to get some help for my depression, ptsd and bipolar. Then life gives me a torn labrum in my shoulder requiring>

surgery and Ill be down for 2 months. Life has been doing this to me my whole life. Get the strength to try to fix, then shit hits the fan.

thanks for making me cry again. +1

Yeah same. The last comic always results in me crying like a little bitch.

Take medicine. Seriously. I take meds for depression and anxiety and I feel “normal” for the first time in my life.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not depressed, I just am always alone with anxiety and seeing that talking about it will be seen as bandwagoning

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are people who understand out there. However there's also the thought that you may be bothering them with unimportant things

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not so easy when you can't afford therapy. Or a Dr. Or medicine. Or "alternative medicine." Or literally anything that might help you

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And you can't earn more money because your mental health doesn't let you keep or find work. And you get so tired of fighting to get

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Assistance that you eventually just resign yourself to being mentally ill and homeless. But please keep telling me to get help. Rub it in.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I got the courage to tell my GF about my depression and she broke up with me. I'm not revealing again

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I started antidepressants three days ago. I know it takes time but I hope they work. The emotional roller coaster I was on was unbearable.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I always think I'm fine, and so I feel fine. But the moment I see stuff like this I just lose control, I remember how fucked I am and just

can't shake the feeling

I just found out a good friend committed suicide today, and I was hoping I'd find one of these posts on Imgur. Don't know why, but it helps

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

i have no experience with it at all but i have heard that hyperbole and a half's take on depression is accurate

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Sooooo accurate. Very worth reading.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I could use someone to talk to.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's okay to be a bitch-ass nigga

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Are you joking?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you have depression? Do you even know what it's like? Don't make fucking judgements like that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

? I haven't made any judgement. It's okay to be a bitch-ass nigga, my nigga.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Losta friend to suicide this week. No one ever knew, had a convincing smile. Hold those you love close and never let them out of your sight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That second one. Damned if that’s not true sometimes.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Celexa made me just feel dulled down, and I yawned incessantly, like 1-2 times a minute for hours on end. My jaw and head ached from it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Wellbutrin gave me a grand mal style seizure. An hour or so sooner and it might've killed me, because I was driving at the time. The

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

possible downside of that is that I haven't been too keen to try any of the things again. God damn Wellbutrin.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just wish therapy was not so expensive, have needed to talk to someone for a while =(

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Try bigwhitewall.com its free in some parts of the UK. Amazing site and it might ne available for you too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I agree, even if it was covered by insurance, I can't afford the copays every week :(

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Look into online counseling, I'm seeing more and more initiatives.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I used a website called moodgym for a while, and I liked that. There are other similar free resources online too!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Meanwhile, feel free to reach out to your fellow imgurians!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Counselors really are great to talk to, expensive, but valuable. Wish I had the float to do that more right now.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always get teary-eyed when I come across these.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Is there a specific reason?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Some of us have probably been saying "I'm fine" a bit too much

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They know what its like. I know because I've felt all those things before.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yep.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don’t know how people aren’t depressed all the time. Can’t remember the last time I was truly happy. But I have a puppy, and she helps.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

You deserve happiness. More than anyone else out there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some people are ignorant. Some people are religious. Some people are stubbornly optimistic.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's weird, eventually that "down" feeling becomes comfortable. It's not there *for* you, but it's still always there. It's its own island

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

of reliable consistency, just always there.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You’re exactly right. That is actually very well put, I’ve never really been able to articulate it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A good daily reminder to anyone out there. Be strong!

8 years ago | Likes 234 Dislikes 8

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I find gardening, drawing, crafts, music and reading have all helped in some way. It refocuses your brain and keeps you out of the bad bits.

Fighting depression/keeping myself from emotionally breaking down every day is literally painful. I just want the pain to stop....

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

...but I’m not going to off myself. Hell no. This shit just sucks so bad. I am in therapy, which was working until recent months...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

...but then things spun out of control for me and now I’m dealing with a whole new set of emotional problems. Thank god for imgur gifs tho

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Be strong man! Always here to chat

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind :-)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is unrealistic in that it shows that people are there for you but so many people have no one. No one to understand the pain they feel.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm trying

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It’s hard..

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Seven year suicidal daily here. Been through the ringer too many times, if anyone needs to talk message me. It gets better, trust me.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know man. I’ve been riding that struggle for 3 years now. You just have to keep going. Always here for a chat if anyone needs it.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's really hard

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

If you need to talk make sure you talk. I’ve been through hell and back and occasionally revisit. Sometimes it’s good to just get it all out

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I have talked, but now it feels like I'm being guilted into living, my life just doesn't belong to myself, but to the people I might hurt

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I know the feeling. Never feel guilty for talking! If people make you feel like that, they aren’t the right people to talk too.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you can't be strong: be vocal. It's ok to speak about weakness. When we talk about it we give others the opportunity to help. Let them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have some serious dark moments but my wife always seems to bring me around. Im a lucky fucker.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You are! I'm happy for you.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife is the shining star in my life. She keeps the bad times manageable. I’m just glad we are raising our child opposite of my parents.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me too. and she's not even aware. She just makes me happy for no reason at all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What really sucks is when the only reason you're depressed is the chemicals in your brain being super fucked and refusing to let meds help!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I hate the way meds are portrayed by media. They’ve helped more than they’ve hurt and doctors know they aren’t the be all end all.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having a 'great' life so that when u seem sad people will just be pissed that you are sad. So you pretend not to be.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you tried getting that DNA/mental meds tests? They can find out which meds your body would metabolize best, and adjust doses for it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've tried a number of other things like ECT, but I've never heard of that. Thanks, I'll work on looking into it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have no idea what's been going on with me lately. Life is good with a gf, new car soon. But I still feel sad all the time. Any advice?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel pain when I think of doing anything productive. I can't do the dishes and I am angry to my friend because she tries to cheer me up.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's such a strange feeling. I should be on the top of the world but feel like I'm in the dumps

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

ask for a psychanalsys session, specialzed towards chemical derived depression and similar mental health disorders,

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i had done a so-alled "hospital day" a couple years ago in a top-notch facility(it's actually an average of 3-5 days though) and that's how

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i found what i actually have... probably. consider psychology is still a relatively young field of medicine and wrong diagnosis are common.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s okay not to be strong. It’s okay to feel sad. It’s okay to cry. It’s not okay to keep it to yourself.

8 years ago | Likes 189 Dislikes 8

these day, it seems like everything it's ok and not ok at the same time, so i'm no sure if you're trustworthy, or anyoe really.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Talking about it doesn't help. There isn't much you can do when every decision is the wrong decision, and the future will be the same.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Gonna share with who? Doesnt have any friends who care about you, and family doesnt really care if you are happy or not.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keeping it to yourself is easier when there are people out there that say " just suck it up" or "you're not really depressed." "Just smile"

8 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 2

perhaps, but to me it has been the opposite o far and it seems like it's been doing more bad than good, not for me, for others, but that's

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

what i wante, i didn't want that and will never want it, but apparently it's wrong, so... fuck me i guess?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just go ahead and remember the kids in Africa have it worse! You've got a job [you hate] and a home [can't afford]!

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Oh THANK THE FUCK! I nearly thought my problems were bigger. There we go now we find the power to smile again. It's not so bad is it

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Exactly! Even if you can't do anything to help them, you can just smile more and remember you've got it pretty good! *Cringes*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly. It's what pulls me out of depressive thoughts every time. And bury them deep. They can't come back to haunt me can they? hAhA

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really despise comments like that the most. It's something that people who have never been depressed say.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or is the type that say they're depressed when they feel sad one day. "Oh I'm so depressed." If it was real they wouldn't be telling others.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck those people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or my personal favorite "Other people have it much worse than you do..."

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pain is relative. People really need to grasp that idea.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea, we deal with more pain than the people around us.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe they do but that has nothing to do with you, your situation and your feelings. Your feelings are just as valid as anyone’s.
