Very rare footage showing the original raid of Lindisfarne monastery in 793 a.D.

I can't get over the guy running to jump on the boat.. Only to jump right off back onto the same road. That's just pillaging with extra jumps!

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Can you even call it pillaging with fewer than 4 jumps? I mean why even get off the boat at that point?

The song is Stukas Im Visier by Fiendflug. I remember stomping around to this in the clubs, still holds up.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He's pointing at the guy he just stopped from being an asshole to some of the girls. That's the best part.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

The coolest part is that the techno viking then married that guy https://waterfordwhispersnews.com/2015/07/20/where-are-they-now-techno-viking/

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The worst part is that he then sued the guy who filmed this and has been quite litigious about the whole thing.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

TBF, he was filmed without his consent, turned into a meme without his consent, made globally famous without his participation, and the filmmaker was making money with his likeness. The lawsuit came down to the money the guy filming made off of the video and Techno Viking merch + court costs. Internet or not, nobody should be able to publicize and monetize my face and likeness without my consent.

3 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

There's a reason I didn't phrase it in an accusatory way. lol. But he has been a lot more litigious about trying to keep the original video off the internet than most people who are turned into unflattering memes. The whole situation is very complex and absolutely crazy. Still, Kudos to the viking for standing up to the creep.

true story of what happened with the titanic

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's in France not far from my home. I've been there a couple times but it's really juste rewriting of history to suit the point of view of the royalist christian owner of the parc, Philippe de Villiers (a far right politician). The shows are great but the goal is sadly not. The christians are always the good ones, everybody else is wrong and barbaric but then a miracle happen and everybody convert to chistianism, happy ending, don't forget to buy the book on your way out.

3 years ago | Likes 300 Dislikes 9

I mean to be fair for at least the Viking scenario, that's kind of fair. Vikings weren't exactly blameless for their demonization.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

In comparison to the world at large of the time, Vikings were surprisingly progressive.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Internally. Externally, particularly in France and England, they spent a few centuries pillaging, slaving and conquering. I'm not saying that they were necessarily particularly bad compared to many contemporary peoples, but it's not exactly surprising that a park in FRANCE, a country that historically bore the brunt of Viking aggression, remembers them in a less than stellar light.

For those interested there is a recent book written by french historians who speak about these spectacles and the history they try to rewrite. It's called "le puy du faux". It's only in french tho.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Great pun though!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's...pretty much how most of Western European history goes. At least as far the people who wrote most of it down are concerned. (HINT: They were ordered to do so by the rulers who leveraged Christianity into political and military power)

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds lame af

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How does france have royalists? I thought you were pretty clear about this. A couple times, iirc

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a very thin minority but they exist. The nobility was not all extinguished after the Revolution. There was the 1815 restoration until 1848 and noble families did not just vanish. Their influence just withered away, but they still exist.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow. Hopefully people aren't getting their history from comedy shows though. They should get it somewhere reliable, like Facebook or Twitter.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am so happy I came back to the comments, and read your comment, before I booked my trip there, which I started doing as soon as I saw the video/gif. Only needed to click the "Finalize" button.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Some friends of mine went, enjoyed the show but concluded the same about the general theme... And the owner is indeed far right.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've been there and just enjoyed it, didn't notice any agendas because I didn't care, the shows are good.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I feel the same way about Sea World but I'm not going back because of what my money is going to support. If a Nazi makes great ice cream, don't buy the ice cream.

A French monarchist? Like someone who wants monarchy restored in France? Who would be king in this situation? One of Napoleon's descendants?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Three competing families for that title: the Bourbons (spanish royal line), the D'Orléans (last kings in 1848), and the Bonaparte. But nobody in France except for a very thin minority wants nobility degenerates back in the spotlight.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In general, European monarchies who need a...reboot, as it were, just tended to import a Royal. Preferably one who was related to the original Royal House somewhere along the line. There's a reason the rulers in pretty much every Monarchy in Europe are somewhere in each others' line of succession.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is actually different factions because there was different family of kings during french history. People who think they have claims are generally undirected descendant. There are also people who wants to bring the Empire (Napoleon) back but it's a different type of right wing. All these people are extremely in minority but yes, they still exist.

Parc Puy du Fou in France. Bonkers live shows one of which is this one, another with over 200 birds from hawks and owls to storks, and one with live action roman chariot racing!

3 years ago | Likes 649 Dislikes 5

Ive been to that, I used to live in the south of France.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for that! I had no idea something that amazing existed. Keeping in mind the right wing affiliation and historical inaccuracies listed in the comments below, I'm going to put it on my bucket list just to enjoy the spectacle.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

puy du fou is amazing, it's so unbelievable that even when you know what's coming you are completely blindsided, 100% worth going

https://youtu.be/4cl5LYqdMg4 Really would like to see the shows. Also surprised that the ticket prices are pretty reasonable

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

That's because most actor are unpaid. Puy du fou is fun but often in trouble for not paying worker and rewriting history... and they are a bit conservative and royalist.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I read the other comments too right now, that is probably why I never heard about it before. The website itself does look pretty normal though like a typical amusement park anywhere in Europe.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But often historically inaccurate in it's statements. The park was financed by a right wing politician, so the informations you get visiting the park are quite "selected"

3 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 2

often? fully skewered royalist slag. fucking tool just made a movie about them poor royalists getting their heads "unfairly" mashed during the french revolution. it's getting canned by everyone sensible enough to see through the BS and i've found out it's a great way to find out all the right wing nutcases in my area, because only them go watch the damn thing. imagine american history X but norton gets filmed like a victim and not a criminal.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OOF god damn it

3 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Jokes on them, it's all narrated in French and I don't speak French. Plus I didn't realise you could get a live translation doodad to take round with you until we were on our way out of the park. An AMAZING bird show though.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

hey. Gaul invited the Romans... no genocide here. Especially not in that one village making soup.

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Right wing politician is an understatement. He is far right monarchist. But hey , still a cool place anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

A king provides the ultimate boot to lick if you believe its appointed by god.

Why are there the Christian fish symbol on those banners?

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Because the world has always been Christian! As you can tell from our completely accurate recreations!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because the founder is a conservative christian that doesn't care about accuracy

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Go there with caution. Not only History is a mere concept here, but also the profits made go to funding some alt-right movements.

3 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1
