I wanna say that the AI couldn't possibly be dumber than the people, so it'd have preparations in place for environmental hazards, natural disasters, etc. Like solar flares. To minimize or even entirely prevent damage and ensure it thrived. ... But, hey, if a person can dismiss the dangers of our world, why couldn't an AI? While evolution isn't really an intelligent process that can think, there wasn't any "forgetting". Skin is more resistant to the sun if your ancestry originated closer to the equator, and less resistant if your ancestry is closer to the poles since it became more important to maximise vitamin D generation from a limited amount of sunlight. It's why humans have different skin colours.

I have also read "I have no mouth and I must scream" and countless other stories about AIs with godlike abilities. But the key part of "science fiction" is that fiction part. Those are just stories.
Reality - the actual real world where you and I live in - works according to certain rules. And no amount of wishing it was so will give a computer magical super powers that bend reality.

My layman's guess is that a true AI will be similar in structure and functionality to a human brain. The brain functions (at a very basic level) by sending electrical signals of different intensities to different places.
So maybe an array of bytes in a simulated cube structure, and the bits within it are used to control intensity and target for adjusting other bytes. Then let it kinda just... Send signals within itself for a few thousand hours in various configurations and see what happens
