I love this guy. He does great research and doesn't back down, presents it clearly, shows the steps, I love him. Gives a history lesson, I feel like the internet was waiting for him to get in there and do his thing. I'm hoping more channels present in such a thorough, hard-working manner
The grease, tho.. man. I am sure this chef takes measures but our lunch lady served this swimming in a fetid pool of ungodly helljuice. Highly recommended for the true OG public school experience.
I use the Manwich can of sauce to make my sloppy joes...but I doctor it up a little by adding some chopped onions before I add the meat. Then after I add the manwich sauce, I add a squirt of "Italian Toothpaste" (tomato puree in a tube) and some pepper with some German Soy sauce (Maggi in the yellow cap) Serve it on cheap buns with a leaf of lettuce and a handful of tater tots fried up in the airfryer! That's a yummy meal anyday of the week!
The trick I found with the canned man which sauce is to only use 2/3 of it for 1 pound of beef, toss the rest in the garbage… It is a more firm less hanging soup mix
Hey I didn't like it either. Nice to meet someone who isn't nostalgic for this. I was made to sit at the kitchen table and eat one while everyone was laughing at me as a kid.
I used to work at a restaurant that sold comfort food type stuff, and sloppy joe wraps were on the menu every now and then. I was shocked by how simple the ingredients were!
Also how much you could make off them I'm sure. You dont season them so much as ask politely that they have more flavour. The video didn't add garlic powder so much as added the faintest whiff of garlic from another room. Maybe a good idea back when there was good ground beef but now it all tastes like cardboard.

Our head lunch lady (back in the early 1970s… ) Miss Valentine insisted on making yeast rolls from scratch and to this day they are better than any other bread product I've ever put in my mouth…
The square pizza, in particular the square sausage pizza, was beloved and coveted at my school cafeteria… I would gladly pay money for an authentic slice, err, I mean, square of one.
If they served rolls with it, or even just bread (we usually got rolls on turkey gravy day) I would make mashed potato and gravy sandwiches. I still do that if I ever get a roll and some good potatoes and gravy, little mashed potato slider

This guys channel is worth subscribing to. You can learn about the origins of different food, or how people in the past ate. Very interesting.

+1 for him including the happy food wiggle that I used to do as a kid.

I had them for dinner yesterday. And I gotta tell Max, a good Maid-Rite (loose meat sandwich) slaps.

If they're delicious then it's definitely not the recipe my school used

I remember the awful school cafeteria food that for the life of me I cannot understand why people romanticize so much. That shit sucked.

Always upvote Max. Tasting History is my favorite History channel vaguely disguised as a cooking channel.
