I keep seeing the year 1996 in both the millennial and gen z. I turned 25 this year, What am i?! WHAT AM I?!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

reject millennial/zoomerdom, embrace nine-sixial, we are our own generation

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A manager at work earlier this year refer to a 21yr old as A "damn Millenial". Had to tell them that Millenial isn't just a stand-in term

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

for any young person that annoys them in perpetuity. BTW, she refuses to belive I'm a Millenial. I'm 36.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I've heard Zoomers call Millennials Boomers, as if it was a stand-in term for any adult that annoyed them. Language is weird.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

when the whole "ok boomer" thing started a lot of "kids" started referring to basically anyone older than 25 as boomers

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My name is jake, I'm 49 years young and I live in a cardboard box out in the park

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I’m a Boomer and I live in a van, down by the river ?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm a boomer; but, I use words like "yeet" and "bruh" and "fam" which means I am MUCH less cool than I think I am.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

This is stupid

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

A friendly reminder that generational terms are bullshit with the goal of driving a wedge between people

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm 33 last Saturday

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Anyone else worried that we're at the end of the alphabet?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Gen Doomed is next up

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a Fantastic Four villain's army - Generation Doom

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Younger millenial and I'm still 29 this year... My bones are tired and I have a mortgage. I can't stay up past 10 without getting a headache

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm Gen Y and I'm sticking to it, like - Y the fuck is everything going to shit and being blamed on us?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The concept of generations is a just yet another nonsensical way to divide people. Gay/straight. White/black. Boomer/GenX.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Pretty happy with the gen x smile and little waist. Fist pump.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Gen X!

5 years ago | Likes 723 Dislikes 5

Not anymore.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gen X also

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 1

Me too, brother. 1979.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Gen X, represent!

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

RIP

5 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

That was the comment I was looking for!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We old

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Represent!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's nice not to be forgotten! Gen X here too.

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

No, no, I like it that way. Just forget we exist. We can fly under the radar while everyone else fights.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

From what I here, DMX is gonna have a hard time giving it to you anymore

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

X too, but the part I just realized is that my kids are millennials... that never occurred to me before.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Putting up with boomer shit since 1965.

*angry barking noises intensifies*

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not anymore :(

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After the Boomers die off, we will be the next generation to take the blame for everything.

5 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Doubt it, and even if so, we'll just shrug and say 'whatever' and roll our eyes. It's got us this far.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Meh...we didn't start the fire.....

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

It was always burning, since the world's been turning...

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What?! We're the MTV generation, we did nothing wrong.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure millennials get blamed for a lot of shit. Usually that we killed some useless industry.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Every generation blames the one before....

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

When all of their frustrations comes knocking on their door...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or that we're not having enough kids and not spending enough money to keep the "economy" moving,

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I claim Xennial, which is 81 to 84. 85 is millennial.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Xennials are (according to Wikipedia) from late '70s to early-to-mid '80s.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of the first millennials here. Turning 40 this year.

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

One of the last, turning 26 this year

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Always thought I was a gen-xer until like 2009

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You’re not Gen X unless you saw Reality Bites in the theater.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup, me too. I feel your pain. Maybe, just maybe though, it means our generation will start taking more and more political seats?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of the last and I just turned 27

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was born in 1980 and I call this division bullshit. ☹️

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'd always been told I was the tail end of Gen x. I was born in 81

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same I definitely feel like Gen X culturally and Millennial financially

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're a Xennial. It's missing from this graphic, but we all know what we are, neither Millenial nor Gen-X describes us.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nah, I totally identify as a Millennial! Born in '81.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a millennial. I identify with that group as I have had the same struggles.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was born in '96 and depending on which article I read I'm either a millennial or Gen Z... And I don't even like avocado on toast

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

When you're on the final year of a generation, I feel like we get to pick.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sometimes they actually just skip 96. It's weird.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same here. I've seen people on here constantly say we're one or the other. We're practically our own generation at this point.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

millennial? zoomer? nah, i'm a nine-sixial :sunglasses:

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have always been confused on whether or not i am a millenial or gen Z because the date always tends to change .-.

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Were you in diapers when Jurassic Park was released? Then you're Gen-Z if we're going by the colloquial meaning.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Honestly who gives a shite, it's just an arbitrary tag thing, it means nothing.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Do you remember a pre-9/11 U.S. / world? if no Gen Z. this is my hard and fast rulings on the split.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They change all the time. They even change the older generations. It's all stupid.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I’m a 96 kid and am told something different with every person I talk to. I’m just going to consider myself both

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I've usually seen 1946-1960 is boomer, genx is 1975-1985, millenial is like 1985-2000, and 2000-2010 is zoomer. But yeah

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

So, there's 15 years with no generation between '60 and '75? Millenials I've always understood to be from 81 or 82 to 2000.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

96 is such a cursed year to be born in i swear ;-;

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was born end of Dec in 1995. Should I stop buying coffee or should I keep trying to pick myself up by the bootstraps?

5 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 2

It depends - have you ever had a facebook account?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

As I'm a mechanic your like one of them cars on a change over year no one knows what parts fit ?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends... if by coffee you mean "Star Bucks", then yes, you should definitely stop buying that.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hah same! No one ever knows what the hell we are. By this chart at least we're at the edge of millennial.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You are now rich, cause old, just as every 18 year old is adult, cause old.. thats how it works

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I laughed so hard at this! +1

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was born in 1980, depending on the source I sometimes fall into Gen X, and other times Millennials. I don't feel like i fit into either

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

78 here I feel the same.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You, like me, are xennial. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xennials

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

So what are the post-zoomer kids saddled with? Gen Alpha?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Gen Floob-Boober-Bab-Boober-Bubs then.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We'll keep going until we reach Wingdings.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Fucked. Generation Fucked.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ill be 29 this year and maybe have 20% of my life together

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Hey, that's 15% more than me and 20% more than some people I've met

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey I just turned 29 and I have maybe 15%! *high five*

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As someone turning 29 this year: y'all have a percentage of your life together?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Eh, not really. But I count things like making money occasionally and doing the dishes. Makes me feel better to say 15%

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a 30 year old friend who regularly bitches about millennials. He simply refuses to acknowledge that he is one.

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

my brother is like that too. He says millennials suck but he and his wife had gender reveal parties-the most millennial thing you can do.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

...what does he think he is?

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

When asked he likes to identify with Gen X. He gets upset when you remind him that he's not.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everyone knows you become a boomer when you turn 30

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The common usage is more about mindset than actual date of birth anyways.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1996 - 2010 are Zoomers. Don't steal our naming scheme.

5 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 7

I heard it's changed to Coronials. Not that I care, I'm gen x.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Man, the classical station near me has used Zoomers to denote active boomers for years. I think it's hilarious you guys want it

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone in that range (1998), we are called zellennials

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

The hell is a zoomer? I ask because I'm '96

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, at 96 I still identify as a Millennial.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are too many of these with different data

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We still eat avocado toast tho, fuck that shit is good.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 11

No green slime for me, thanks. I like my toast with cinnamon sugar.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Back in my day we used to not have fancy bread and instead we'd put sugar on a slice of tomato!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why, when salt is so much better?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haven't tried it but il give it a shot before I get back to you!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not all of us. I don't care much for avacodos. In unrelated news I just bought my first house! /s

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I'm a millennial and I'm 36 (and I fucking hate it).

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Fun to be raised with a particular world view only to go out into the real world and have the world be like "sike!".

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

26 and I fucking hate it.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm 39 this year. I'm real tired of everything being blamed on Millennials.

5 years ago | Likes 855 Dislikes 10

Im 40. Sick of being told I'm an elderly millenial...

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Im just tired of everything in general, waiting eagerly for the sweet embrace of death.

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Mood

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

"Millennials destroy Imgur comments" - jk. Me too. There is plenty of blame for everyone.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I see the complaints shifting to the generation who actually runs things and the young people who are actually young.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a Gen X I’m just happy nobody remembers we exist.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I feel like it's been years since that was in full swing

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Yeah...like...im literally just trying to survive and keep the lights on, but sure...im killing the mega yatch industry or something...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just turned 40. I lie and say I'm Gen X.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How dare you! (born 4 month early to be a Milennial ;P but experienced the Internet since childhood part but only since 12-13 year old)

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Generational labels are kinda fuzzy at best. I don't think anyone reasonable would complain if you called yourself a Xennial?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are they still? I feel like the only things I see about millennials these days are people making fun of people making fun of millennials.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's almost as if dividing people into arbitrary groups solely based on the year you were born is a really stupid thing to do.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

37 here. I had my "generation" blamed for the spelling of my own name by someone that looked to be about the same age my mom was... WTF

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Speak for yourself! I love KILLING whole industries!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right? I'm not too entitled or lazy. Just trying to go to my middle management job to support my family and pay my mortgage.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you're a xennial, my man! enjoy it

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

No thanks.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of us! one of us!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still think of us as Gen Y. I don't know when they started calling us millenials.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Generation that became adults at the turn of the new millennium....or marketing gimick by boomers trying to sell avacados...I forget which

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just turned 39 myself...Elder Millenial indeed!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why did you kill "X industry"?!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take your position as an Elder Millennial

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm 31 and I don't care about everything being blamed on Millennials. It's hilarious.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just turned 39 this month

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then quit f*cking everything up for everyone else, Millennial.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well that's really your fault if you think about it

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

'82 was a good year to be born

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Grad 2000 heck yes.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's where the name millenial comes from

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That so? TIL.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same! It was great.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well maybe we should stop being horrible.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 71

Ok boomer

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In my kids respected their elders and then we beat them. Now excuse me while I watch the news at full volume

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

People my age have our parents to thank for all the trauma and therapy.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gen x, overall are the problem

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 15

We haven't been super helpful, but we are much too small to be a major problem. The Boomer generation was huge and they still run everything

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The governmentts of the world are stacked with Boomers, elected by Boomers.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Blame it on boomers then

5 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 5

Boomer here, we're already blamed for everything. Have to go, my butler tells me the Rolls is ready for inspection.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Unoreverse.jpeg

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Nope, blame it on the next generation as is tradition

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or we could reject the whole generational blame game as a bullshit paradigm used mostly to set us against each other.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Shhh...what would Imgur talk about then?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

eat the rich

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Why should we eat the rich? You are what you eat and the rich eat cake. Eat the rich! They're basically cake!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

“Maybe I didn't think this cake idea through” - Marie Antoinette, probably

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Real talk!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

True and false each generation has different struggles some caused by previous generations some by themselves that's just fact

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

However "you caused it so you should fix it" is stupid. Be the change you want to see. If you want it fixed right, fix it yourself

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not willing to let go of the fact Ronald Regan and the people who put him in office royally fucked our futures.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

of course he did. he was a jackass. that really doesn't support the idea that everyone over x age is a jackass. poor logic meant to divide.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Boomers can take the blame on that one.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Give it up - better to move forward then hang on to idiotic decisions. The rich deserve our hate.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Or. Acknowledge what they did and hold them accountable. I'm not letting the person who shit on the floor tell me to "just move on"

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

SO sick of hearing “You’ll be conservative when you’re older!”

5 years ago | Likes 281 Dislikes 6

It's not wrong. U might will have similar views as now but there will also be newer views, making your old ones the new conservative.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That's only bc they think everyone needs a label. Think for yourself and find out what's actually best not what x group says

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I counter that with "You'll be dead when I'm older and I won't give a shit"

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I heard that from people that never knew my parents or my grandma. All 3 are extremely liberal

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm on an all-out sprint to the left, myself.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I've only gotten lefter as I've gotten older

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did. I moved from libsoc type anarcho to euro type socdem

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"I will in my fuck! "

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Studies show that political leanings tend to change in cycles. Older gen started more blue and went red. Younger gen start red move blue

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since they went red they think next gen will too but its more of a balancing act with following gen seeing what didnt work and trying new

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We gen xers were told that, too. As were boomwrs at woodstock. Its a thing all generations hear. See also: lazy, pop culture is too sexual

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was more of a conservative when I was younger. The GOP is not conservatism. It's fascism now. Been speaking down hill since the Tea Party

5 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

As I get older I care more for the people around me.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Also "making real money". My parents say this to me. My reply is "I'm 40" and my house and cars cost 3x what yours does."

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

If anything I get more radical in the opposite direction! Conservatism implies, ya know, wanting to keep things the way they are/were.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Ironically, I *was* leaning conservative as I got older, but when George Floyd happened, I took a hard left turn.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Kudos to you for that.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Im in my 40s and for a long time my dad couldn't figure out how I got more left as I got older. Then Jan 6 happened and he was like "oh".

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I got more liberal as I got older. Those people who got "more conservative" are probably remembering they were racists from the democrat /1

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

party that left when the republicans said they'd take them. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Southern Strategy during Richard Nixon.

I swear to god, we're like one more global catastrophe away from raising a hammer and sickle flag.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

i genuinely hope my views are considered conservative when i'm older. not because they've changed but because we have progressed.

5 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's an awesome way of putting it.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

"If you aren't liberal when you're young you don't have a heart. If you aren't conservative when you're old you don't have a brain." -my dad

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

"To be successful you have to stop caring about anyone but yourself." Is a succinct summary of the core tenet of modern conservatism.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Aka "Fuck you, got mine."

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That’s based on an old French politician’s quote. Has nothing to do with the current R/D dichotomy.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Except there’s nothings conservative about Republicans. Hasn’t been for decades.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well it's been decades since he said that but I agree. Its been all downhill for a while.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Born in 1980 right on the cusp, so I kinda have things in common with both generations while also feeling completely out of place.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What happened to gen y? These are always so arbitrary and undefined that every article thinks they are different years.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We were there at the start when the internet started. Ebaumsworld, YTMND, Duke Nukem soundboard trolling. We were the original meme'ers

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bitch, we're the ones rooting for all the things the millennials have the power to accomplish. We're outnumber by the boomers, they're not.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly! Change happens by building coalitions, not by alienating potential allies! "Generational rivalries" are nothing but a distraction.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The middle child of gens

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Gen X here also. 45 baby!

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

50 here.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me too. Is you a ice cream melted because your from hell or has hell frozen over? Hard to tell from username.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am an icrecream man but from hell. Like most ice cream men.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

45 here too!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

xennial here, grew up without internet but still down with the millenials pop culture.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Same, got to grow up playing outside, and Nintendo 8 bit when it rained.Wasn't exposed to Hentai during my impressionable years. Win Win.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Y'all seem to get shit on much less than my millennial and Gen Z compatriots.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Being latchkey kids taught us to be low-key.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why do you think they call us Gen-X? Everyone forgets about us; we've turned it into an advantage, e.g. passing legal weed & gay marriage.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Well technically it was Gen X, Millennials are Gen Y, and then Gen Z. Point taken though, I tend to agree.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stick to the shadows.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Hidden in the noise.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Treetop flyer.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We had our time in the barrel.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Yeah, when I was in high school every other article was about "why are American high schoolers so DUMB now," always written by Boomers.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Were they written by boomers or the silent generation? (Genuine question) It seems the feuds skip a generation to me.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh it was definitely Boomers. They *hated* us and liked to tell us that we were "born too late" and such.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They forget we're here. Which kinda sums us up better than anything except Winona Ryder.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nobody talks about Gen X and as a Gen X-er I’m kinda okay with that.

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I'm MORE than okay with that

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Slacker generation for the meh

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

From millennial to gen x. How was the transition to touch screen auto correct from a Noka 3310?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was only in my 20’s when I had a 3310. The tech has grown with us. Very gradual

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was a very late adopter of smartphones. Still miss the tactile feel of actual buttons and being able to text from my pocket.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Old autocorrect was much better. It was correct most of the time

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

T9 auto correct! You’re not wrong

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Book

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asking because still using a Nokia 3310 and I finally decided to make the switch.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Android uber alles. And swype typing is your friend. Most of the time. Except when it's not.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The lack of tactile feedback was weird. Blindly typing is no longer a thing till you can "muscle memory" your virtual keyboard

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

@Usieus is correct. Feel free to use some of the vibrations as tactile feedback. It will help so much! And my suggestion is avoid the slidy

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. There's no tactile feedback and you can't feel your way along the keys. Phone's with full slide out keyboards were available for a bit

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Palm Treo!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I loved them, but they're harder to find now.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck I'm an old millennial. Wife and I only just started fucking around with avocado toast because we can just afford to so in our careers.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

the other name for millenials is "lost generation"

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are we naming ourselves after a group that died in droves at the muzzle of a machine gun now?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 40 in May. I'm one of the first millennials apparently.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

37 on thursday here!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Millennials are a would be scapegoat for the worlds problems, but we are to self aware and have been calling baby boomers on their shit.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I turned 35 last week

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

27 year old millennial, I'm one of the youngest

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You are on the council, but we do not grant you the rank of master

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not fair! How can you be on the council and not a master!?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

35 last week, still gathering that down payment...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happy early IRL cake day.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Millenial, 33 in May :D

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a millennial, and I need to stretch before taking a trip to the hardware store. Also, my back and knee hurts.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Turned 32 last week.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I turn 30 on the 30th whoohoooo!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just turned 28, but I was born in 1993. Funny to think that boomers think millennials as 15-22 year olds.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Happy birthday. As an aging Gen-Xer, may I also say “get off my lawn, you degenerate!” Unless you have good drugs. Then pull up a chair.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just turned 28 a month ago... I make my own fucking avocado toast. (But shit is tasty....)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I turned 39 first week of March

5 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 1

37 in the first week of march. Yay.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Two weeks ago here. I remember being promised a lot of shit "when you grow up" and I'm still waiting.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 more weeks, I'll be there.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck I'm an old millennial. Wife and I only just started fucking around with avocado toast because we can just afford to so in our careers.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honored Elder

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Snap me too! Yet I don’t feel millennial somehow.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm 39. We are considered Xennials

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I grew up rural and poor, hand pumped and boiled water for baths as a kid, now i have an email. We are the apes who touched the obelisk.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Luxury, we never had a pump, and you'd be put in the tub ti warm the water

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd argue that within a few years you can feel like another gen, Born in 82, most my mates were older. I thoroughly identify with GenX.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to mention regional differences. I'm on the genx boundry, but being Australian most of the "you know you're a..." lists ring 0 bells..

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How's your back holding up?

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Wait that’s normal? My back started hurting when laying down/getting up just this year. I’m 35.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, is it common at this age? My back began killing me once I turned 34.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

33 next month. My back is fine, its my knees that are the problem.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck my back. My knees! And my hearing is starting to go. Damn tinnitus

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Back is fine, knees are fucked

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Same bro, same.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not even 30 and its killing me. Fuck hard labour

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not good I tell you...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I ha e woken up 3 times this past 12 months in actual eyewatering pain from sleeping wrong. The fact that we can sleep wrong is >

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my hotdamn neck is strained (deep muscles attaching vertebrae) when i lay down!! tossed for 30 mins. last night to get best sleep positionTF

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

> all the proof I needed against the concept of Intelligent Design.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why are generations getting to be shorter intervals? I mean a kid born in 1946 has little in common with one born in 1964.

5 years ago | Likes 287 Dislikes 9

Key inflection points are: End of the Baby Boom, entering the workforce with/without the Internet, and being raised with the Internet.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Tech.

5 years ago | Likes 220 Dislikes 0

Change is accelerating

5 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 2

Culture is changing faster and also age gaps matter less when you get older. Generational boundaries might shift in the future

5 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 2

The guys who first codified this stuff went for around 18-20 years, but other people make up different dates. No reason why, they just do.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah but they're both fuckin annoying boomers

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Technology causes culture to move faster, thus commonalities, as tenuous as they are, have a shorter window.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

more in common than I do with these kids on tik tok tho.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yeah. And I'm 26.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Baby Boomers was the first marketed generation. That made it profitable to define generations, which made it lucrative to shorten them too.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe the rate of cultural turnover of accelerating? Or maybe our emphasis of generational divides is exaggerating our experience of them?

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Also, people tend to lump older history more than recent. Example: the Elizabethan era is 45 years, thrown into 1 bin.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Technology has an exponential rate and impact per generation. Should the world become stay at home labour, that will divide gen Z to current

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because they need us all blaming each other, rather than the system that's abusing us all. Invent differences, divide and conquer.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I was born in 1962 and I have zero in common with the "well I've got mine so fuck everyone else" Boomers.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's all based on which star sign Pluto is in, for Millenials Pluto is in Scorpio.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is no reason. Its completely arbitrary.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

Technology and culture speeding by, ever evolving at a faster rate than humanity is used to adapting to.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Possibly we consolidate generations into more general term over time. It's easier to see differences between a 14 yr old and 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

a 20 yr old than between a 70 yr old and an 80 yr old. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Real answer? It is made up. Best approximation? Technology accelerates so being born in 1940 or 1960 is less dif than being born 1990/2010

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

especially since the dates vary fucking wildly. 18/15/14/14

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cuz Boomers can't keep up with the names

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

Because they're arbitrary lines that have to be drawn somewhere. That's just how categorization works.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

18 years vs 14 for the others. It's not massively longer. Not much in common between 1981 and 1995 either tbh.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People born in 1995 won't remember a pre broadband time for example.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Marketing.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indeed. That's why at 43 I feel both X and millennial. Hence Xennial.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's all part of a scientifically highly controversial model of generational circles. Each rebels against the last and becomes the next ~>

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

establishment. There is much dispute about the validity of such a models, such as the question if it really was generational conflicts.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Boomers are following a demography pattern. For that period there were more babies each year than the last one.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's not really, it's typically about 15 years. But post-WW2 life was weird and everyone was expected to procreate at early adulthood.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on culture which depends on country as well, last millenials were 5 about to turn 6 when 9/11 hit, culture took a massive change.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because cheap communication more widely available and we're *way* richer than 70-80 years ago.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm wondering what they're going to call people born after 2010? They ran out of alphabet letters.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Choose a different language. Danish has æ ø å after z...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Goddamn generation ø's. They ruined everything!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The last generation

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

you may be right :(

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tough luck

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I believe its Generation Alpha

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Makes sense.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve heard this also

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My grandma was 2 in ‘46 and she had my mom in ‘63. It’s a huge interval.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s based on major cultural events. Eg if you remember 9/11 vividly you’re a millennial or older.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gen X ends more or less when you vividly remember the Berlin Wall falling. Baby boomers would be adults during moon landings.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mostly dependent on history, but there’s always a limited range (society will always have children, young adults, middle aged and elderly (1

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

cohorts). Generations are defined before their defining historical circumstances are clearly understood so the years will be subject to (2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

revision. The tech changes today are more gradual than the transition from the pre-Great Depression/WWII Era to the postwar period. (3

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The baby boom was looong

5 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 3

Babies be boomin’... babies be mad boomin’

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s because it’s not a “generation.” It’s just a tremendous increase in the number of babies born that didn’t subside until the Pill.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

18 > 15 > 14 > 16 doesn't really seem like a massive decline in interval length when you're talking about literally made up things.

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

19 > 16 > 15 > 15, count the year it ends on.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I appreciate both examples of more finite math, but neither seems to really address or disprove my original point.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By the pic, the last should be 14 not 16. And I think it's a reflection of the fact that people tend to lump older stuff more than (1/2)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

newer stuff. This is why we lump whole centuries, or even millennia of ancient history as if everybody from 1000 to 1100 are the same. (2/2)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll tell you a secret: it's all fucking made up

5 years ago | Likes 602 Dislikes 3

Nope, there is an actual science behind it. https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2015/09/03/the-whys-and-hows-of-generations-research/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I think "actual science" is a bit of a stretch. They seem to be retroactively applied labels and ignore pretty much everywhere but the US

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Just read any book trying to discuss "Generation Y" before the 2008 crash. Events basically make the model. It's wildly unpredictable

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wait until you hear about how cultural movements don't respect dividing years up into decades. Hooo boy

5 years ago | Likes 113 Dislikes 1

When these started in theb90s I was a Gen Y and my sis was a Gen X. Were both Millennials now

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Which international body makes these rules? When I was a scallywag it was gen Stone, gen Iron, and gen "go outside and play like a normal!"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think its just magazine articles that decide what the general public see/read. I'm sure there are people who study this subject.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A section of Sociology probably focuses on generational studies

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha exactly. There’s no science to it...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I believe it’s based on technology boom. So as technology gets better we change the generation. The new generation is the age of technology

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty much. I was born in 1980. Technically I'm Gen-X. I have more in common with someone born in '85 than I do with someone born in '65.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell, the guys who made it up didn't even call Millennials Millennials - that name was for what Gen Z is now, and Gen X was "Thirteeners."

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thirteeners are mountains over 13k' tall.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly can't remember what they initially called the generation we now call Millennials.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Gen y I believe.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not initially, their first book came out about the same time as "Generation X" did, people weren't calling my generation that yet.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
