This is my brothers dog cleo. She was rescued from a family who couldn't keep her due to her anxiety. My brother was walking out at the same time they were walking in talking about giving her back up for adoption. When he leaves she lays by the door then walks over to the windowsill.
My brother also suffers from anxiety as does most of our family so he knew adopting her he would be able to understand her a little better. She sits like this for hours until she sees him.
When he first introduced her to me she wouldn't let me pet her. Now she cuddles with me when he's gone during the night for work.
Cleo and my brother.

I had a dog named Cleo who suffered from Anxiety. She had been beaten and every time someone sneezed she would pee. I miss her so much

How old is Cleo? He looks a lot like my Nadia who has separation issues and is super skittish. What if they came from the same litter?!

Amazing doggo!

My rescue doberman has anxiety, he cannot roam the house unattended. 10 couches he's eaten in 2 years. We have a special dog room for him1
KrazyKatWoman
When we leave, food, water, dog beds, doggie door outside. It helped a lot. Rescued from my ex who kept him in a cage 18 hours a day and
KrazyKatWoman
Killed his ear tissue so they look like stumps on his head. He's a good boy, loves my kids. Great with other dogs, cannot be unsupervised
tom0bomadil
Is this common with dogs? My dog cries bloody murder if I leave to go take out the trash. It's a 30 second trip.
brikhouse2
lmao this had me laughing and in tears for some reason. phewww
LiteSwitch
yea... it is for ones with separation anxiety. mostly from adopted pets.
FaultyStarsNoConstellations
Idunno my dog just looks at me like I'm the worst person ever not bringing her with me, but she never says a sound, just stands there
tom0bomadil
He sounds like some one is physically hurting him, the worst part about it is my gf is still in the apartment when I leave for work.
LearnSomething
It's common in breeds meant to work in packs. Can also be seen in rescues. I wouldn't say it was uncommon but there's a difference
LearnSomething
Between a dog acting out because you leave and a dog dealing with separation anxiety. Does he pee or poop by the door you leave out of? Has
LearnSomething
He destroyed things when you left? Usually things by the exit and repeatedly.
tom0bomadil
No he does not, pees on the pads in our bathroom and chews shoes if left on the floor.
LearnSomething
So it sounds less like anxiety and more like an untrained dog.
IamMorganFreeman
Separation anxiety. Usually a result of being weaned too early as a pup.

Oh and I love the video he's done on it https://www.cesarsway.com/dog-behavior/anxiety/cesar-on-separation-anxiety
BrightStarEm
:( is there any help for it?
WisconsinHome
Rescue Remedy by Bach for animals. I've had good luck with this with anxious pets
LearnSomething
I wouldn't recommend that for a dog that deals with separation anxiety. The thing would be doped every day.
WisconsinHome
Bach Rescue Remedy does not "dope" animals or humans.
LearnSomething
Learn what triggers the anxiety. It helps tremendously to have another dog but only if you can get them to bond. The most helpful thing is
LearnSomething
To have a set routine and not to stray from it. Also, if you have a kennel, get rid of it. It only makes separation anxiety worse
PeteButtigieg
Ugh, it usually isn't from being weaned too early.
margaretolson
What's it from? Genuinely curious
IamMorganFreeman
What is it from then? Genetics/learned behaviour? There's a huge grey area as to why dog psychology is how it is. Early influence seems 1/2
IamMorganFreeman
As likely a culprit as any potential negative influence, regarding this issue. 2/2
LearnSomething
Not always. Some breeds, like beagles, are prone to it. Mine wasn't weaned until 12 weeks and still ended up with it. It's a milder case
LearnSomething
and we've learned what triggers her anxiety. I can't leave while she's eating or during storms and if we separate her from our other beagle
LearnSomething
She has a full break down.

At least you know what to avoid
