Yeah, the time before last I ended up going to the doctor instead of my cat going to the vet — because she bit me. I had to take antibiotics. Cat one, me zero.
But now we have a wicker basket. She loves it and went in of her own accord two weeks after the incident as we had the new appointment with the vet. I never expected that.

Nice one! Looks pretty wild, but at least it's all shallow, except maybe that bit near the elbow. Keep an eye on it for signs of infection and use an antibiotic ointment if they appear.

My very first cat was a rescue. She was a sweet kitty... for us. We took her to get spayed and got her back with a glued belly and we heard her growls/screaming in the back when we picked her up, they said she doesn't have to come back to get stiches out. Later learned that's how they do ferals. One time we brought her back to the vet something like 2 years later and we heard someone in the back say "oh god, it's **THE SPAY**." She was not a sweet kitty for the vets.

Glue is standard for many vets these days! It's easier because you don't have to take them back, and a lot of people... Just won't.. Also stitches can get pulled out. My youngest were spayed just over 3 years ago, and they were all glued, not stitched. Way easier to manage, imo!

Work with the vet to have a sedative prescribed before the cat goes in. Unless there is a reason not to have it (depending on procedures) most should be fine with that. Not the first one to come in with issues. If they aren’t, find another vet that isn’t a douche to deal with

Maybe stupid question but I still want to ask: So when this type of injuries with considerable infection risk occur while taking our furry friends to the vet, can the vet prescribe us antibiotics or does it still need to be prescribed by our regular human doctor?

For next time, check gardening shops for goat leather gloves. The long ones for cutting roses. Thin and flexible enough to feel what you're holding but extremely puncture resistant. For an animal with significant bite- or grip strength padding is a good idea, for "just" slashing attacks thin gloves are great.

I have bought deer skin gloves but they are only for the hands. Luckily I do use them for gardening. I don't have cats, but do have bunnies, their nails can do some heavy damage as well. I have never been bitten by my rabbits so for me no glove mode is fine.

You can get "animal handling" gloves on Amazon. After one failed attempt to put the cat into a cat carrier...after the wounds healed. The next time was with the gloves. The cat actually looked at me with a face like, "WHY ISN'T THIS *WORKING???*"

We changed our cat's associations to the carrier. Usually they freaked out when it came out because it only came out when they were going to the vet. Instead, we put their carriers in our office, with a nice blanket in it. They hung out with us, so they'd use the carrier as just another cat bed. No more freaking out when it came time to get them in.

I never knew about rose-cutting gloves, but it makes sense. I always just used my welding gloves

I had to wrangle a blackberry thicket into submission. Welding gloves never come in anything remotely my size and after a few hours my hands want to kill me. Goat leather is about as thin as dishwashing gloves, minus the sweating. The brambles are history, unexpectedly easy with the right gear. Or you could get the live goats to eat the brambles, but they won't help hold a pissed off cat.

Meanwhile I took my actual feral rescue to the vet and he was a perfect gentleman. Blew my mind. We were ready with gloves and multiple people and he just came out and sat down and let everyone handle him. Confident little man.
