didnt realize the link in my title didnt workhttps://imgur.com/gallery/JqxmwOR
First day, just got done in h.r. signing my hiring paperwork. Walk onto the unit and make direct eye contact with a kid (who was supposed to be in school but had been sent back) jerking it in the kitchen(likely because the cameras didnt show the kitchen). Kid establishes dominance and continues, I immediately question every life decision that brought me here.
This is one that will stay with me til I die. Working an overnight and we have to shine a flashlight into each kids room every 15 minutes to verify that they are in fact there and more importantly alive. During my 3rd check for the night I discovered a kid attempting to hang himself with his sheet. Long story short I call for backup, go in and stop him, have a heart to heart for a few hours then proceed to watch this kid truly invest in his therapy, grow considerably and eventually leave the program. Less than a year later we get a report that he killed his girlfriend Andes facing life in prison...
Anytime a unit needed help (99% it was the violent offenders Unit obviously) we would get a radio call to assist. Week 1 I got called up to help with a kid who was freaking out and had halfway kicked out his window to escape. (Basically just stood in his room where he was sitting on his bed, next to his pillow, while his staff deescalated him. ) Once he was calm we moved him to another room and then went back to clean his old room only to discover he had 4 sharp pieces of metal that he had broken out of his overhead air conditioning vent hidden beneath the pillow. This kid came to us because he stabbed 2 kids at his school. I was a little shoo ken up the rest of that day.
Contrary to what most people believe, only 5-10% of sex offenders are actually pedophiles. (The majority just take advantage of what’s available to them, which is usually children. By that I mean they aren’t attracted to kids specifically, they just lack the social skills to develop healthy sexual relationships with people their own age, therefor they take advantage of whatever else is available) during my time I only worked with 7 kids (out of several hundred)who were clinically classified pedophiles. This one was the worst. Not only could he not remember the names of all his victims but he specifically stated his plan to garner more, should he ever be released.
Of the kids I worked with, this was the youngest. (He was only 9 when he came into our care). All the kids were allowed 1 weekly family visit which was always staff supervised. This particular kid, however, was with us for 2 1/2 years (the average stay was 6-9 months). During his treatment his mom issued every sort of complaint she could about staff, enough so, that his last year he was given unsupervised visits with his mom and sister, in a small meeting room next to our unit supervisors office. (I know this sounds ridiculous but as long as a parent was in the room we never in a million years assumed that anything could happen)We always had a staff member right outside and after several months we discovered that not only had he been molesting his cousin but also his sister and his mom was literally letting him continue to do it during their visits while she sat in the room!
First off all the kids on the VO unit were obviously ‘tough guys’ who constantly felt like they had to prove themselves. This lead to multiple fights a day which lead to multiple restraints a day. The ‘funniest’ one I was involved in was a fight between 2 17 yr olds who were both 200 lbs+. It took 6 staff 45 minutes to restrain and calm these knuckleheads and when it was all said and done we found out the reason for the fight was because one had told the other he could borrow his DS for 15 minutes if he let him, ahem, explore his bat cave with his wing wang. Long story short(ish) after the deed was done the receiver claimed the DS was dead and the giver refused to allow him to use the charger. Also no joke the very next day I saw one of these kids calling a kid from a different unit gay because he was wearing a pink shirt.
EDIT: I’m working on a part 2 of stories. Will be posted tonight

While disturbing, thanks for sharing.
arkaniet
I hope you're getting the mental care you need. This sounds like it will have lasting effects. Also wow that Mom story is insane.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Like I said I HAD to get out however since then I’ve had the post counseling I needed and all that
md22mdrx
Yeah... my aunt worked in a mental ward back in the 80’s. She came out of that experience “not the same”. Severe mental issues now herself.
md22mdrx
Good luck to anyone working in occupations like this. Try to stay mentally healthy.
LunaLeMoon
So real question. Is it worth even trying to fix these people. Sounds like there is more harm then good.
SoreScratchboard
This sounds horrible, @OP. What country is this from?
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
US
Mother0fCats
May I ask what ass backwards state the story about the mother is from?
trikucian
Could be anywhere. Evil people exist everywhere
Erutanmi
That was a freaking wild read. Thanks?
GreenTea502
Thank you for your service.
EntropyReign
Dang, good on you for doing this work. Agree with your other post- Really takes a hit to faith in ppl seeing them treat kids to this outcome
umibozusan
Ok I’ll be the first to say it... Shit’s fucked up, yo. I appreciate the mental fortitude and the service spirit to take on these jobs.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I grew so much and unfortunately it is a necessary job but man does it take a toll
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Oh man what did the dude below this say before he wussed out and deleted it????

I work in a clinic for kids 0-5 in the care of youth protection. In some, see foreshadowing of what you describe. I hope I am wrong :(
BuffAlphaQuigs
Ugh I can’t imagine
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Truly I don’t have any first hand experience with kids that young so I couldn’t say
somtin
I did a stint with Child Services.Had a 8yr old girl that I reported for flashing me her vajay and and propositioned me.A major tell of 1/2

abuse. No one did anything until it was discovered 2 years later she was abusing younger local children. So your suspicions are probably right

No joke: after working just the tech part of three prisons, normal prisons were super chill, but Juve is where you get crazy eyes.
RhyevriemValdread
Can you tag me in the next story upload? This is. Intriguing, definitely
Sionas
Look I acknowledge murder is a crime but I really feel that mom deserves a slow one
Kaofael
I can't bring myself to disagree.
Boldeyes
Some people shouldn’t have children...
seentoomuchdeath
Good for you. You did your job without judgement. I had to as a doc, and your conscience will be better for it in the long run.
Drath101
Yeah I've been in juvie for short periods as a dumb kid. I have similar stories from a different perspective. Horrible places
Drath101
You tend to assume kids are vile but unaware, I learned the hard way they often aren't, many are far too aware with what they're doing
BOSSMOPS
Would you mind giving us a storytime, like OP did? If it isn't too personal ofcourse.
Drath101
I don't know if I'd like to make a whole post about it but I'd certainly be happy to discuss my experiences in DM's
BC2k2
I've heard similar stories from a gal who worked in a Juvenile center. The one that tore her up the most and made her quit was a 7yo
SwedeOnAnIsland
Why was she like that?
Brucecori2
What the other commenter said. Sexual abuse might be seen as a "reward" or "love". Brainwashing and grooming are real things.
XplodingUnicornGlitter
It's usually sexual abuse from a very early age.
Chrysyx
Sexual abuse. Kids who are abused end up thinking that kind of behavior is normal/the only way to get affection.
KirkSteel
I wonder if it’s because the only way they see themselves as valued after they have been abused?
BC2k2
girl was BEGGING the staff members to have sex with her, and she was always trying to initiate with the other girls or masturbating with
BC2k2
whatever she could get her hands on. No idea what happened to the poor kid (this was some 12-15 years ago) and I really hope she turned out
BC2k2
okay. But I doubt it :(
Noraneko
she learned that sex brings her attention and affection, probably. very sad :( Def. abused at home
BC2k2
That'd be my guess as well.
tjm1226
I worked in a similar place for girls nearly 20 years ago. I can’t tell you it gets better, but make sure you take care of yourself.
Eowyneb
This are some crazy stories. Did you have to go to therapy yourself to deal with it all?
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I had a small amount but really it was just about getting out of that job you know
Wowcablesucks
This is sad, the mother that allowed her son to molest the girls should be executed or sent through a wood chipper feet first.
Spointed84
Some people are really a waste of ressources. :-(
sleepyreader8
Not going to lie, anal sex agreement part was funny.
KnownSecretCarrot
it really isn't. this happens a lot in foster care homes at a VERY young age and goes under reported a lot. and not limited by ages either.
trikucian
But they were consenting 17 year olds. I'm just wondering where we draw the line with teens?
sleepyreader8
With the law
trikucian
Teens can consent with each other within a certain age range
KnownSecretCarrot
True, but saying that means that everything is permissable under the exact law. But doesn't mean it's in the best interest of the/a person.
SpaceMarineWithAnUrgeToPurge
When they are in this kind of facility we have to assume that they are that they're mentally behind due to psychological damage.
trikucian
Good point
WookieWookieWookie
They're patients in a behavior health facility. They're not consenting adults.
trikucian
Teens can consent with each other
Omnimorph2112
I was happier before reading this
NEjoedaddio
I'm happy to know that there are people willing to help even in awful situations like this. Your love for your fellow man is reassuring

IAmRelevantToThis
This his made my day, thank you!
ryry1237
I would like to order one platter of puppers please.
FierceDruid
Thank you. I needed that.
MyCommentsUsuallyHaveTypos
Maybe most of these offenders should have been kept in prison the rest of their lives. You can't un-therapy this kind of stuff. I know.
chammey
Prison should be for rehabilitation anyway. No use releasing criminals back if they "served" without having actually changed.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I disagree, when they are as young as we had them it is rarely if ever a vindictive evil thing, saw many kids turn things around
grzyboslaw11
I was working with orphaned kids aged 12-18 year old. Thank you for this comment. I know shitty stories but at least 30% are positive.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Absolutely and those stories are what continue to motivate people to help
grzyboslaw11
Yep. If you can help at least some of them It is already good. OP should post something positive otherwise ppl will see such places as
Slimewire
Needed to read this right now!
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Glad I could help a little
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I was happier before experiencing it!! That being said I’m not trying to upset anyone, my bad
Haveadwellingintheforest
Someone has to do what needs to be done. It may be ugly, but hey… humanity needs that. Cheers to you and stay safe
bigkingdingaling
You are a better man than me, I think we should have a pretty short lived solution to some of the people you had to try to help
saldrSleepTaker
Home made electric chair?
trikucian
No man, you gotta talk about this. These boys are sick and need to be treated. You were doing God's work, Christ is smiling down on you
TheCat5001
Although it makes me sad to read this, it makes me appreciate and truly respect the work you do. Don't apologize for educating :)
Omnimorph2112
It was my morbid curiosity, my own fault.
ObsidianOuroboros
Of course you're not :) Although ignorance is bliss, we should all really talk about these issues plaguing society.
pegmis
I think it’s good you put this up. Helps others see things many are ignorant of it chose to turn a blind eye too, I think
SociallyAwkwardCanadianMoose
I remember the book, the child called it. That was heavy. Sad to see more going on
pegmis
That book...
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Dude that book messed me up!!
Pikkupanda
Most people want to be blind to other's struggles, sometimes because, like me, they're overly sensitive. But we need to know. You're brave.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Thank you
Pikkupanda
I read it all. I think what you see and do is important for others to understand. It's how we support each other and hopefully improve.
beenieweine
You encapsulated my stance on this completely. It’s nice to see another overly sensitive person ✌️
Pikkupanda
Do you effortlessly put yourself in the shoes of someone who's suffering? It's a blessing and a curse for sure.
RainbowFlerken
Venting on here is good and it's better not to keep all of it locked in your head.
literatewench
Listen. That kid who killed the girl? His time with you might've been the only healthy part of his life. Don't regret giving him that gift.
literatewench
Broken people cut the folks around them and you can't control the shrapnel. But never regret trying to glue someone back together.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I appreciate you saying that and I do recognize that. Just fucks with my head sometimes
sweetnaivety
but.. did he kill the girlfriend before or after they saved his life?
WookieWookieWookie
It sounds like after so the saving him was pretty unfortunate. Not ops fault of course, but you wish the check in had been a little later.
NorwayNarwhal
As I understood it, after. He was saved, released, killed his girlfriend, and was sent to prison
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
After. He came to us as a sex offender, completed therapy and moved on. After that was when he killed his girlfriend
DoctorPitt
#2 fuck that's heavy
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Like I said its just situations the average person couldn’t/shouldn’t fathom right?
bluemagister
That kind of thing happens all the time; an interaction / ripple effect that later indirectly led to other things. Most just aren't aware.
ComcastLover
When I hear this stuff I'm glad my dad locked my cage at night so no one could do anything to me
DwayneTheCrackJohnson
Yeah, suddenly the beatings and belt whippings don't seem THAT bad, but still
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
All jokes aside a neglectful vs abusive house would have been a less awful situation for these kids. That fact fucked me up as well (1/2)
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
To see parents actually putting in effort to fuck their kids up
HoliBug
Ha!!
v
Nalianna
3rd cage on the right?
Jumpercables24
Hey hey hey! You want me to bring out my jumper cables again?
ComcastLover
Holy shit! Cage 5, is that you? :D
Nalianna
Yes, do you think we will get fed today?
ComcastLover
Oh wow, you're still there? I was moved to a different complex when I turned 17
Nalianna
just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone home?
XplodingUnicornGlitter
I currently work in home with special needs/disabled kids and teens. I've worked in facilities in the past, and worked in a unit that 1
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Housed felons that had nowhere else to go. I don't think the majority of neurotypical people understand how badly mental health reform 2
BuffAlphaQuigs
Yes! To reform!
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Is needed in the US. I want out of this field so badly - hopefully going back to school in the spring. It has drained me mentally and 3
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Emotionally for the last 10 years. Have definitely learned A LOT though. 4/4
bluemagister
Mental health reform is needed, I absolutely agree. That being said, there are a large number of people who simply can't be helped.
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Absofuckinlutely. I know that all too well.
trikucian
Very true, but they still need somewhere to live safely other than gen pop in prisons or on the street
bluemagister
Yes, but also ehh... A mental asylum is merely a prison by another name. That said, we should still increase standards of care in both.
trikucian
That's what I meant. It's more that I want the normal felons kept safe from the truly disturbed.
ArtisticDimensionHyperDesigns
I’m a crisis resident in counseling. Really want to work with kids but terrified if I’ll be able to handle it or want to die in the end.
privatepublic
I quit it, and now research the happiest thing I can. I couldn't deal with it.
bluemagister
If you can't handle it, you will be made aware of it very quickly and you wouldn't know unless you tried. Better to try and not have regrets
ArtisticDimensionHyperDesigns
Because of these types of cases. I don’t want to become ineffective to clients and burn out. The idea scares me immensely. ?
bluemagister
Look at it this way: if you don't attempt to help people, it will be no different in the end then burning out and being unable to.
ArtisticDimensionHyperDesigns
True, true. It's better to take your shot to help someone and possibly fail, then not take a shot at all!
XplodingUnicornGlitter
You *will* burn out. Speaking with 10 years experience here, it comes with the territory. You need to be able to recognize it and help 1
XplodingUnicornGlitter
Yourself routinely. Pre covid, I'd take a week off every summer and travel. Helped a lot. Good luck. 2/2
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
I couldn’t agree more, this is not a field you should try to do permanently. However it is needed but just recognize when u need to move on
ArtisticDimensionHyperDesigns
Thanks for tip, man! I’ll make sure to take care of myself. I’m glad you did what you did for the kids and yourself. ?
XplodingUnicornGlitter
I am definitely trying to get out. Hopefully only a few more years while I'm working on my second degree.
haveueverwentfast
All of these are fucked up but the mother bringing her daughter and sitting in the room whilst he did it WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING FUCK
Roaddog184
I seen worse
BuffAlphaQuigs
I knew a student who’s uncle would keep him in a cage and he would have to trade him sexual favors in order to eat. Shits fucked
surprisecottoncandy
babysuperfreak
The only explanation that makes sense it pedophilia (getting off on watching kids molest each other).
Taxicat
And/or not viewing girls as actual people. That’s sadly not at all unheard of; internalized misogyny is a thing, and leads to a >
Taxicat
>lot of abuse. This is just one of the most extreme examples.
AndThennnnn
And also why assume safety if the parent is in the room? No excuses, but many of these are learned behaviors. It’s just gut retching.
PosthumousExile
My mom did that , my dad is a pedophile and she would bring me and my sister to him and lock the door
MasterHazard
Sorry to hear that :(
GRiMLOCKLou
???????? I’m so sorry.
lamingtonjoy
That shit would’ve happened to her
Spiked
Along with this, there's a chance she felt it helped him be a man. There's no easy answer
titaniumsnail
It might actually have. A lot of abuse victims do the same to their own family and so on.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
It killed me
Eowyneb
I don’t understand, why wasn’t the daughter removed from her care?
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Short answer the daughter was her actual child the son was adopted. The laws regarding reuniting family are fucked up
Boldeyes
Did she explain why she let him abuse the daughter?
ShowMeThemCatsFella
That's even more fucked, providing your own offspring to that.
NOtoAnastasia
Sincerely, how do you keep yourself from beating some of these people, kids or not, to within an inch of their lives? Good on you, seriously
UndeadGopher
As a father of 2 girls, I definitely wouldn't even try to do this job. I'd lose my shit immediately. Serious props to those who can hang.
ShellDiabl0
Please tell me the mother was arrested for letting her daughter and niece be molested.
wtftomdelonge29
That one was especially fucked up to me.
FuzzyX
Sounds to me like the mother was the one who set her kids down this sexual abuse future. She should be the one locked up.
SixFeetShort
If only life were fair...
Greeneyedfox
Yeah a 9yo molesting anyone means that he was probably already being abused. Sounds like possibly by the mom
jelliebellie1940
Please tell me there’s a provision where you can just take them out back & shoot them.
5timespeed
.
IOVVVVVOI
This just fucked me up. Aaaaah.
Aelonwy
That woman does not deserve the moniker Mom. Death Penalty is what she deserves.
onegreatninja
Past case, girl was pimped out for $20 BJ's at a park by her cousins between the ages of 7-9. DFPS sent her back w/o charges or services
crazyplantladee
This.. this story hit so close to home for me.. fuck that mother.
heidimaiber2718
Sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing well now.
crazyplantladee
Thank you kind stranger. Have a lot of emotional baggage. Some day's are harder than other's. In a much better place though.
Shineupordown
i cant believe they left young sister unsupervised visit with the kid ...
Chingchilla
I am thinking horrible things about that person that is NOT a mother but I should never speak it out loud. I'm sickened.
IAmFeatherWeightHearMeRoar23
Mom needs to be arrested. Scum
makeSX
They should all be destroyed.
Dentistman
Pretty sure she's a pedo
Aelonwy
F-that. I'm a Mom, she's a monster. Monsters need to be removed from existence. I support the Death penalty all-the-way for that crap!
Boondangle40
Sounds like she has severe mental illness and a history of abuse issues etc.. Don't know if you should execute someine based on one act
Aelonwy
It says he discovered the mother was allowing and providing victims to her son during visits... visits is plural, victims is plural. 1/2
Aelonwy
She is a monster. Encouraging something beyond deplorable. It is not one act but a history of actions. Remove her from the species. 2/2
ProChoiceBaby
WHO THE HELL DOWN VOTED U?!
bvbowalrus
Might have been someone w/ bad conception upvoting downvoting? Might be thinking why would I upvote or “like” horrible actions like that...
ShellDiabl0
Someone who likes to diddle children or watch them get diddled is my guess.
f0622
The mother?
TheTimeless
3 people that should be in therapy and possible confinement if they think any part of that was ok
blackrasputin
I don’t think you know how family courts work
ShellDiabl0
I don’t, either here in the US or abroad. It’s not something I’ve ever had to deal with. I freely admit my ignorance of the process.
sphericalworld
So heaven forbid you ask a question to seek wisdom right? FFS.
ShellDiabl0
Stop being a judgmental bitch. FFS. Pretty sure you don’t know everything. ??
sphericalworld
Holy shit, you took my comment completely backwards. I was supporting your desire to ask a question without being attacked.
ShellDiabl0
And I don’t need to ask questions...I’m not lazy. I can go look it up myself.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
No, the kid was removed from her household though. The laws designed to reunite families whenever possible make sense on paper but(1/2)
jamadrien
WHAT. THE. FUCK!
prolurker2077
Fucking christ that woman needs to be locked up for the rest of her life. I would say killed but I have a thing against wishing death
hairytrigga
She needs a .22L to the back of the head. There's not fixing what's wrong with her at all.
AngryGraphicDesigner
I’ve personally dealt with this BS. It’s great in my theory, but lacks common sense in practice.
IAmAnthonyStark
But that doesn’t really seem like a “whenever possible” type scenario. That is continuing the cycle of abuse
ShellDiabl0
I am absolutely saddened by that. Either way, I hope both of those sweet girls are able to have counseling and make good lives.
ImJustSoFckingSickOfThisBllsht
Hope in one hand, shit in the other...
HenryLongfellowIII
Unfortunately, being a victim of abuse is fairly strongly (~30%) correlated with being an abuser in the future.
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
Suck in practice most often
stink3rbelle
I mean . . . the perspective on that policy has to be pretty skewed given where you were working.
IjustsaywhatIthink
And this is exactly the reason I turned down a request to be a child advocate. I had seen enough and didn't want to be forced to watch more.
IFavouriteEveryPostISee
How were they caught?
PunkHippieBoy
Both kids?
cantcatchmeimthegingerbeardman
As far as I kno it was just the son
DeadlyFood
wtf the daughter needs to not be with that mom
PhailRaptor
Realistically the mother should have been charged as a pimp. Because that's pretty much what she did.
BooBooPoop
It’s probably cheaper to keep kids in families, too. Social service funding in the U.S. is forever shrinking. THIS is America.
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
My mother worked as a counselor for sexually abused children. One child's mother pimped her out for money... when she was 6.
Ryebread91
So your mom was arrested for attempted murder?
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
My mother would never do such a thing... I'm not sure what's wrong with her cuz I'd'a fucked up everybody involved in that.
ColmMeaney
I once dated a woman who as a child was included in her prostitute mums clients "games" if the price was right!
titaniumsnail
That is disgusting! What a terrible mother :(
Warutteri
I knew a girl who sold herself to older men for drugs starting age 13 or 14 if I remember correctly.. Those cases really mess with your head
DutchessGummiBuns209
Same she wanted nice things. And her mom would come to her for money
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
That's bad but not as bad as having your own parent sell you. That is seriously fucked up.
LavenderRainn
Yep. Same with my cases. It was designed to reunite. Really fucked me up. Imagine living with your two rapists.
Webel
Wtf ? makes me so angry. I had a friend in a similar situation. Would stay on the phone for hours, called Swedish equivalent of cps >
Webel
> multiple times in the summers when she was forced to go to her mothers. They did nothing. Spain was good thou, where we lived mostly.
sackedforgain
So sorry that happened to you. I hope you have or are finding peace
Toderdj
There has GOT to be caveats for that when it's the literal family that's doing the raping. My god.
RunsNakedThroughSwamps
Nope, none. Go on CSA survivor forums and the like. Usually family denies and enables the behavior, even lying about keeping the abuser away
tschallacka
Butt daddy is sorry his cuddle kiddo doesn't want to see him anymore. He only wished to "reunite" and form a "bond" in this age
ElviraQueenOfDarkness
Yup saw this happen with my niece. Her stepdad raped her when she was 3! They still kept custody and weekend visitations.
ShellDiabl0
This makes me want to vomit. That poor baby. ???
RunsNakedThroughSwamps
That poor girl... Does she have any trusted adults in her life? That can make all the difference in her situation
Boldeyes
WTF
