Oh, you think this is a laugh riot don't you? Well I'll tell you something that's not so funny. Right now the furry haters are at home crying like little girls!

Yeah, but you block like two tags and three users and it *all* disappears.

Let's discuss how you need to block a thousand accounts and an additional ten each day plus about 20 tags just to get even a moderate break from the propaganda doom scroll that all has the credibility of a Twitter post because that's where 99% of it comes from.

Imgur used to be a fun "image sharing website" but people seem INSISTENT on keeping it a highly suspect narrative cesspit.

This place was hard core furry when i joined 10 years ago. It was was for years before that too.

I also remember the before times in the long long ago

You think this is a "hardcore" furry site? Ohhhh my sweet summer child...

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Hardcore doesn't just mean sexual, it could also be used to indicate intensity or volume, which was the intent it was used for this post. Also, I was quoting the show, but specifically removed the word sex from the line because I didn't mean it that way.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"hardcore"? Posts get yanked just for being 'suggestive', that's not even softcore

I had my hidden non-nude furry post deleted and made impossible for me to reupload because it was a bit flirty and suggestive... It wasn't even publicly viewable, I just DM'd it to someone!

What's next, going after thoughts?

Don't see a problem there.

Could almost say the same about 40K. I think it’s less Imgur and more that furry stuff has lowkey become mainstream/a staple of the internet.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

it seems like 75% of posts lately are: cropped furry art, pony stuff, or 40K

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's only one person who posts up to three 40k dumps a day though.

The internet has always been more geared towards furry, lgbtqia+, and nerd stuff. With all that's happening right now, people are speaking out more on here. Which leads people like MAGA, who prefer echo chambers, to flee to the sites that aren't friendly to the above groups.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Right, right, Imgur would *never* stoop to being an echo chamber...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I mean, the furrys do basically run the internet, so, ya know...They're everywhere

If you block like 4 users it goes back to "normal"

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My imgur experience increased dramatically with only a handful of vanity account blocks. Bot reposting is the majority of my blocks now.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Seriously. Blocking elbow deep and a few other people greatly improved my browsing experience.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Better than all the untagged political garbage being posted constantly

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd be fine with it if people tagged their posts. Not everyone wants every other post to be furry shit. Let us filter that low effort crap out.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

If we're to go by the doomscroll propagandists advice, "just scroll next"

A little problematic when every other post is the stuff you don't want to see. And now we see why imgur is dying.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Not to your taste does not equal "low effort". There's a whole lot of "low effort" short videos that end up on the front page because funni.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Sorry not sorry

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm doing my part

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Would you rather the political rage baiting or posts straight out of a/atheism that seek to farm upvotes through inciting outrage and hate? I am perfectly fine with seeing fox ta-tas and wolf shlongs on my feed, thank you very much. Bonus points if abs are involved.

Could be more hardcore.... jus sayin'...

Imgur hasn't been "hardcore" anything in more than half a decade

It always was. Then it banned NSFW and they all went underground and largely migrated to catbox and bluesky to share their stuff, but they're still around.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

*gestures to the myriad of furry websites*

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Furries were among the first groups to embrace the internet. We'll be here until the internet dies.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Furries weren’t just the first. They not only keep the internet running, but we’re one of the first groups with dedicated BBS sites. The Tiger’s Den BBS started in 1987, only nine years after the BBS system was invented, and ran until 1996, LONG after old-school BBS sites had migrated to newer tech!

There are 5 Simpsons references in this post, what are they all? Well, I couldn't possibly solve this mystery. Can you?

i've only ever seen it used that second way in terms of that electronica music genre, and definitely not like that in relation to what is known to be a sexual kink.

It's like carcinization; All websites tend towards

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I miss the Russian GTA days

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Nah, it was way worse (better?) back in the day 10-15 years ago. Gif-parties, nudes, furry porn, the works. Today's version is *a lot* more advertiser-friendly.

1 year ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 4

Yeah, I had to block a lot of accounts to get it off my feed, I really find furry art to be very unpleasant

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Says the Ogre...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you somehow block those furries? I could turn on adult lock, but then I'd miss a lot of good stuff. I only want to get rid of that excessive furry content. Like all of it.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's the same 3-4 accounts. Just block the account itself. I stopped seeing them.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Thanks! I will do that.
But Imgur really doesn't have an option to block tags?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It does, although one day I accidentally clicked on "don't offer to block tags anymore" or something and I can't see the option anymore. But these accounts only use generic tags such "funny" or "amusing" and if you block those tags, you end up blocking a lot if good content too.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's nothing hardcore about imgur.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

at best, the shallow end of the furry pool leaked out a little and imgur is that wet spot on the grass.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I blocked 3 accounts and it all went away.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Everybody left and the front page dropped to like 50 points, so we just see furry posts more often.

1 year ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 2

You only need to block like.. 5 people and it's furry free.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

What's wrong with furries? They run the internet.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

this site became hot dogwater overrun with bots and money scammers...

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People left? What happened?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Imgur gradually changed over a long span of time. Some people see it as pretty far from the original and have moved elsewhere because of that. Frequent sanitization, moderation changes, advertisements, increase in politics, and a number of other things have made it more sterile in my opinion. It's been a slow leak of people over time thats just gotten to the noticeable point imo

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The sale to MediaLab, departure of well known and (somewhat) respected employees, outsourcing of moderation so it goes from being capriciousness to unappealable capriciousness, increase in unaddressed spam bots...

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but left to where? Besides reddit where would one go

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

I wish I knew. I fuckin found imgur through StumbleUpon. I really miss that app

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd like to know this. I miss the old Imgur of 10 years ago. Sure we didn't have folders, or longer videos, or double tap to upvote, but the community was insane. And the posts were diverse. @onlyporridge was also posting regularly

1 year ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

And there was porn.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Uhm, nowhere!? It is possible to live without Imgur, social media, messaging apps, or such. It feels pretty nice

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There is nowhere that has no algorithm like this. This is nowhere like this. I think I now total 7 hours looking, Pixelfed (early Instagram?) works but needs about 2 years of smoothening before it might be close? Mastodon, bluesky and a bunch of others are either tictac or shitter copycats that do it mostly the same

If anyone knows better I'll be here, but I have been trying

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Oh it has an algorithm. Stuff that gets a lot of upvotes in a short amount of time gets to the top. That's an algorithm. And if you think other factors aren't at play, you should look at what company owns the site. Funny how many "Fuck AI" posters are still here, given the whole place is run by an AI company.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean you're not wrong but that last bit has strong "If no like mining, why smartphone? 😏" vibes.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Difference is, you have a choice. There's a gigaton of other image hosting sites and places to drop short messages. This isn't some "lol you don't like [x] and yet you [y] I am really smart" thing.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everything is an algorithm. But that's not what algorithmic content means. Algorithm in this context refers to a program siloing you into a content bubble of what it wants you to see instead of showing you the same thing as every other user on the site. Besides blocking or following tags, which is opt-in, imgur has no siloing echo chamber the way every other social media does

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
